Genesis
Sariel was standing with me, holding my hand. It felt good. He wasnât so cold anymore, mostly warm like me.
âHis blood calls to you,â Sariel whispered.
âWho?â I felt happy, complete, yet a part of me missed something, like I was staring at a really pretty picture, but it was missing something epic, something that would change my world.
âCassius and Ethan, both of their blood fights for you right now. Iâm afraid you must yet again make a choice.â
I sighed, my heart remembering Ethan, my mate, my love. âHeâs so warm. Why is Cassius cold?â
âOpposites, I suppose.â Sariel squeezed my hand. âIt was never meant to be like this, Genesis.â
âLike what?â I continued watching the waves crash in front of me. Heâd brought me to the beach. It was calming, beautiful.
âThisâ¦â Sariel held out his hand. âDark Ones were never meant to exist, but it seems a human is just like a siren in the sense that their blood sings to angels in a way immortalsâ does not.â
âWas Cassiusâs mom beautiful like him?â
âYes.â Sariel hung his head. âAnd she died just like Ara.â
âBecause she loved you?â
Sariel was quiet then whispered, âBecause I loved herâtoo much.â
âHow can you love someone too much?â
âWhen that love overcomes all sense of reality and logicâwhen the love once beautiful starts to create fear and jealousy. Just because something starts out good does not mean it ends good.
âDo you understand?â
I sighed and laid my head on his shoulder. âYou aren't good, but you aren't bad either. You're simply both.â
âThat I am.â Sariel sighed. âHis blood still calls. When you return to them, you'll have to make a choice, Genesis, but it's yours. Not theirs. Cassius gave you his essence.â
âWill he die because of it?â
Sariel closed his eyes; a blue tear slid down his cheek, hitting me in the shoulder. âThat depends on the balance of things.â
âButâ¦â I frowned. âI thought balance was restored.â
âYours⦠Ethanâs.â Sariel rubbed my hand. âBut Cassius is still very much unbalanced. Thatâs what love does to a Dark One. It is also why it is forbidden.â
My eyes welled with tears. âHe loves Stephanie⦠in that way?â
âHe stayed away from the girl for a very long time⦠pushed her so far out of his mind, out of his consciousness, that he simply rejected the idea of even knowing her.
âWhen a female was needed, as an Elder I put the suggestion in his mind, made him think it was his own⦠made him think he was powerful enough to face his past in hopes he could finally start living.â
âInstead, he got worse.â I sighed.
âBecause every day her smile reminds him of what he can never have.â
âThereâs always a way,â I argued.
Sariel let out a laugh. âAnd this is why I like humans, always optimistic.â
âWhat other choice do we have?â
His eyes met mine. âExactly.â
