57-Someone who believed Sarah pov By now, my anxiety for Ashley was skyrocketing.
âFor Godâs sake, Sarah. Are you crazy or what? First, you wanted that Pashley to go away and get lost somewhere. And now you are⦠ju⦠just look at you!â
Nadia said irritably taking a sip from her glass of orange juice. Both of my friends thought that I was faki ng it.
âTill last night, I was concerned because I was a little afraid that Justin might blame me for her absence . But now I am genuinely worried, guys.â Shella was drumming her fingers on the table. We all just had
our breakfast, and I could not eat anything except a cup of coffee.
Everything on the breakfast table was making me nauseated.
âGuys! Listen. What if⦠what if ⦠someone has killed her or something.â I stated matter of factly and fe lt two pairs of eyes looking at me in sheer disappointment.
âNo, I am serious. She used to walk back home. What if some mugger attacked her or rap*ed her and ri ght now she is lying in that dark alley all alone andâ¦â
âEnough!â Nadia hit her hand on the table and stood up, âI am now getting tired of your obsession with that girl, Sarah.â Her face had turned crimson and for so me reason, she was fuming.
âThis isnât an obsession, Nadia.â I screamed back at the top of my lungs, âWhy canât you just take it? Sh e might be Justinâs fake wife, but she is not home sinceâ¦â
âHa!â Nadia chuckled without humor, âYou want to give us this impression that now you have grown a c aring bone for that girl? Oh, yeah. Like we donât know you.â She rolled her eyes and turned to leave.
âSo⦠thatâs it?â I asked her quietly, âYou are leaving? Just like that?â
She halted in her steps without turning around, âWe all have been there for you. Always. Now itâs your t urn to realize that this world doesnât revolve around you.â She said softly and started walking away. I could still hear the clicking of her heels when I turned to Shella.
âYou may leave too⦠if you want,â I told her softly.
She came and hugged me to her, âYou better spend some alone time with yourself. That Pashley is a bi g girl. She can take care of herself, love.â
When Shella left the room, I fell back into my chair. So, thatâs it? Both of them thought that I was putting up a pretense? Well! That was not true.
I needed someone right now. I needed a friend. I was missing Justin. No matter how strained our roma ntic relationship was. He had always been a great friend without being judgmental.
I wish I could turn to him and tell him that Ashley was missing. But again. A lot had changed. What if he
would blame me?
Oh, God. What to do?
Instead of going to my room, I went to Justinâs study where no one was allowed by him except me. And lately, he had allowed Ashley too.
Running my gaze there, I walked to his seat and sat on it.
Oh, Justin. We have slipped apart. Resting my forehead on the desk I did not know from where so man y tears started falling on my lap.
When I wanted to throw away that Pashley, my friends were with me. But now when I was genuinely worried for her, they thought I was crazy.
Strange! I laughed sarcastically and shook my head. Wiping my face, I sat straight and picked up the re ceiver of the phone placed on Justinâs desk.
âIce cream Heaven?â I spoke into the receiver, âMay I speak to the owner?â
âMaâam. She arrives for night duties along with her partner because thatâs the time we get customersâ
influx.â
âOk. Thank you. Please let her know that Sarah Garner called.â
âSure maâam. I will.â
After placing the receiver, I again leaned my face to the desk and closed my eyes. Was this Justinâs sce nt in the room? That slight subtle male cologneâ¦
Just then the study door opened, and someone entered inside. Whoever it was, seemed to be in a hurry.
âHey! Who is this?â I sat straight when I heard a male voice close to me, âSarah?â
âKeith?â
âWhat are you doing here?â he asked me busily.
âWhat are you doing here, Keith?â
âOh. I am here to use Justinâs computer. He wants some information that I need to email him.â He went
straight to the corner of the room where Justinâs PC was placed and powered it up.
Placing my fist under my chin I started observing him. Justin never asked me to do these tasks for him.
Keith was his go to man.
âLast night I tried calling Justin.â I told him, âHis phone was switched off.â
âYeah. I know. Signal issue.â He said busily while typing something, âHe contacted me using a landline.
â
âUnderstandable.â I nodded at him, but he was busy on the monitor screen. I took hold of the empty pe n holder and started playing with it.
âDone!â He clapped his hands and stood up, âGot to go! I havenât even had my breakfast.â He was abo ut to leave when he must have observed my face, âW⦠What? Are you alright?â He slowly walked towa rds me,â You have got dark circles around your eyes. Couldnât sleep last night?â
Instead of snapping some insults at him, I just nodded.
âOh,â he grabbed the opposite chair and wheeled it towards me, âYou have been crying too?â I did not answer him.
Sitting before me, he bent a little placing his elbows on his lap, âWhatâs the matter?â
âLeave it! When my friends canât trust me. Then why should you?â I smirked sarcastically.
âOk. Maybe⦠I can help you. What is this about?â
âItâs about Ashley! I â¦â
Before I could finish it, he rolled his eyes and stood up, âNot again, Sarah! Spare that girl.â He started w âNot even if I tell you that now she is missing for two nights?â
he wee who believed He stopped at the door and turned around looking at me questioningly.
âSomeone ⦠got to believe me. I⦠If Justin will return and wonât find her⦠he will think I am involved in might dislike her, bâ¦but Keith⦠I canât hurt her. I canât hurt anyone.â Hiding my face, I started crying.
Until a hand came to stroke my head, âSarah!â he called me gently and pulled me up.
âI ⦠I know you think of me as a bitch. B⦠But Keith⦠I will never ⦠think of killing someone⦠or⦠orâ¦
Holding me against him the poor man was trying to pat my shoulder awkwardly.
âKeith. Please help me.â I pleaded him while crying, âPlease, Keith. Before he returns⦠we need to find âOk, Sarah.â Keith pushed me, holding me by my shoulders, âDid you have your breakfast?â
âI donât feel like eating,â I told him stepping back, trying to put a little distance between us.
âCrap!â He held me by my elbow, âLetâs go out and have breakfast. We can discuss that Pashley of your I switched off the lights in the study room. For now, I was happy that there was someone who believed me and was willing to help me.
