43) - confrontation

ARMAAN

It was well past 7 when we reached home.

I took a deep breath , bracing myself for the upcoming confrontation with my mother.

Mausam went ahead of me , saying she needed to check on kids , I saw mom sitting on the sofa with her tea.

As soon as she saw me , she sprang up ," Armaan beta , kaha tha pure din ti? Mene tujhe kitne call kiye! Teri pa ne bataya tu iss Mausam ke sath house hunting Gaya that! Per Kyun beta? Isse iske parents ke ghar bhej beta divorce ke Baad ye Teri zimmedari nahi he."

( Armaan,son, where were you all day? I called you so many times! Your pa told me you went house hunting with that Mausam! But why? Send her to her parents' house after divorce she is not your responsibility)

I frowned ," mom the house is not for mausam, I mean it's not only for her. And I am not divorcing her." I said firmly but softly , sitting down , I took her hand in mine.

" We are moving out." Her face showed utter confusion.

" Mausam, kids and I , we are moving out , I think it's best for my family." I said kindly.

" What? Your family ? So I am not your family anymore! And moving out ? You will leave me alone in old age?" She shouted.

" Mom, you have dad and chacha , Chachi , and grandpa too , and the servents and I will visit here , kids too will visit , it is for best , I don't think you and Mausam should live in same house." I squeezed her hands in assurance.

I had to do this , otherwise my relationship with Mausam would become even worse , only now she had decided to take care of our children and it's so good for Aarav and Aruhi , they need her too, I can see all of them putting so much effort in their relationship.

I want my family together , my wife , my children , I am being selfish by wanting it but I can't help myself .

" Armaan she cheated on you." She screamed , gripping my arms desperate strength .

" Mom not here." I hissed glancing at staff trying to look busy and Chachi with her head buried in magazine.

" Everyone knows beta. Why are you trying to hard? Don't worry no one would say that you are a bad husband , it's her fault she cheated , I never liked her , she needs to be out of your life!" She pleaded with me.

I clenched my jaw ," Mom."

I closed my eyes , feeling a headache forming," Mom, I know she.. cheated." Getting the words out was damn near difficult.

" I know , but it's between us , I have forgiven her , I do not hold it against her." I said , I never ever blamed her for it , granted I did not like it , not even a bit! It made me angry beyond words but I did not hate her. If I wanted it to break them up I could have but I had no choice.

" What? You knew? Still? She must have told you some lies ! Otherwise why would you let it go?" She frowned, her hands wringing in her lap.

" What did she tell you?" She asked me.

" Mom , we are not divorcing. And we are moving out." I told her firmly.

I soften my tone," don't worry , kids and I will be fine. Mom , can't you see she has started putting effort into our relationship , she has taken all her responsibilities as a mother , I have given her a chance and I won't take it back from her ."

" It must be one of her schemes." She desperately whispered.

I did not say anything.

" Don't trust her."

I do trust her though. I have to. I want to.

" Mom we will moving out soon , by the weekend." I said and stood up.

Sorry Mom, I know you worry but I have to look out for my kids just like you do for me.

As I entered the bedroom, which was her but since we all slept here , it had become all of ours in this last few days, I smiled, I saw Aarva and Aaruhi eating.

" Why are you eating now? We were supposed to go out for dinner today?" I said , looking for Mausam who was nowhere to be seen.

"Mom said we have to finish lunch."aaruhi said munching on her rice.

" Where is your Mom?" I aksed Aaruhi.

" She is washing out uniform." Aarav answered.

I frowned , washing clothes?

I saw her sitting on stool ... doing something to the clothes in a tub.

" What are you doing?" I asked.

She did not look up, and continued to .. brush the clothes?

" Washing clothes." She replied sounding bored.

" But why are YOU doing it? We have servants for that" I tried to reign in my temper. Why does she do all manual chore by herself when she can just give them to servents! I don't work hard in office all day just so my wife could wash clothes by hand in cold winter.

" No we don't. We don't have anyone who would wash Aarva and Ruhi's white shirts by hand." She said coolly.

I kneeled down, gripping her wrist." Stop it, I will Find someone , they will do it."

She met my eyes coldly , challenging me," your mom said no one is free to wash clothes by hand , I should do it since I am their mother."

I flinched , why mom would?

" Alright then you should have come to me." I said.

" I don't mind doing it , it's just 2 shirts ." She said getting rid of my hold.

" No. I will aks someone." I said stopping her.

"Armaan , I don't want another fight with you or your mom , I will do it , " she huffed .

" I will help you then." I said determined , I looked at her.

" What?" She asked with wide eyes , finally her all attention on me.

" I said I will wash clothes with you." I repeted.

A light gleamed in her eyes," are you sure? Do you even know how to do it? It's not easy." She smiled a big smile.

" Papa you know how to do it?" Aarav said standing behind the bathroom door , Aruhi behind him.

" Off course I know." How hard washing clothes could be? And I won't let her do it alone ! We should share our responsibility.
