My brother finally turned to me. "Stay away from Jay okay? That guy is beyond drunk.". I was about to justify myself to him again when Heeseung cut me off.
"I'll take care of her, Hoon.".
My gosh. Did I just hear that right? I felt my legs slowly but surely turning into jelly.
Sunghoon nodded and left us alone behind the counter. Help, please no. Why the hell do I feel like this? Now I would need another one of those sweaty shirts of my brother to cling to anything.
Because, as it turned out, that it absolutely wasn't recommended with a thin champagne glass that one of the guests had handed me.
"AHH SHITT!", I cursed as the glass shattered in my hand and the shards hit the stone floor.
Immediately, blood ran from my cut on the palm of my hand. "Are you okay?" Heeseung immediately put down his bottles as he looked at my pain-distorted face.
I supported my hand with the other as he turned my hand towards him and saw the blood running along my arm.
"GYU! I need you to hold the fort here for a minute. Hyeona cut her hand." he called, the still somewhat sober-looking Beomgyu to the counter. "I'll be right back, okay. Watch out for the broken pieces on the floor!".
Heeseung immediately pulled me into the house with him. I could already feel myself getting a little woozy. "Should I maybe mention that I can't stand the sight of blood?" I forced myself to look away from my arm and into the air, holding my hand over the sink while Heeseung rummaged for bandages on the restroom .
"You're a doctor's daughter, and you can't see blood?" he repeated in amazement with an ironic laugh in his voice. "Yes, you're right, a good time to make fun of me.".
He came back to me after a short while and turned on the tap to clean my wound. "Here, press this on it". Heeseung handed me a wound compress. "Now we need bandages...", he bit his lip thoughtfully.
"They're in Sunghoon's room.".
He frowned. "Why?".
"Oh, you can't imagine how often that guy gets hurt...", I laughed.
"Real sportsman, huh?" he grinned as he walked upstairs with me.
I nodded to my brother's bag as we arrived in his room. "They should be in there...".
Heeseung nodded and put my brother's training bag on the dresser to look for the bandage. "Do you want to sit down? Not that you're about to pass out" he suggested.
I slowly sat down on the edge of my brother's bed. Even though it made me feel so disgusting. I don't even want to imagine what he has already done in this bed with this bed linen.
"If Hoon knew I was in here, he would freak out," I told his best friend. "Why? It's just his room.". He sat down next to me and started unwinding the bandage.
"Sounds weird, but this is such a thing between us. He doesn't go in my room, and I don't go in his. It's been like that since we were kids...".
Heeseung slowly began to wrap the bandage around my hand. "Yep. This is definitely pretty weird.".
As silence fell in the room, I felt my heart pounding faster. Hyeona, how do you make it stop!!!
"Uhm...Your girlfriend cheated on you?". I asked. GREAT! Like this, you definitely won't make it stop!
Heeseung glanced at me for a brief moment. Damn, that was definitely one of the most stupid things I've ever asked somebody. "Sorry! I shouldn't have...".
"Nah...It's okay. Honestly, it wasn't that surprising. Things didn't really work out between us the last two months. So I'm glad we finally broke off.". He suddenly let go of my hand. "Done.".
I briefly admired the neatly tied bandage around my hand when a loud thump was heard from the stairs.
Mine as well as Hee's head snapped in the direction of the door, which we had left open a crack. Outside, Sunghoon could be seen for a second with a girl whose back was pressed against the door of his room in the next second.
My next move was based on pure panic. I opened the sliding door of Sunghoon's closet and pushed Heeseung inside before following myself. Since I regularly snatched hoodies from my brother despite being banned from his room, I knew he had an element in his closet about two meters high where you could easily fit in standing up.
It was just at the right moment when I pulled the closet door shut when Sunghoon and the girl stumbled into his room.
"What the fuck...", Heeseung complained, but I shut him up immediately.
That was also the moment when I realized that we were standing just five centimeters away from each other. I knew that standing here would easily fit, but not how many people.
The next thing I heard was a groan, in addition to the loud breathing noises. I froze on the spot, while my eyes panically searched for Heeseung. You could literally read my thoughts from my face.
"Don't tell me they're...", I broke off. "...they're about to fuck.", Heeseung finished what I feared.
Panicked, I reached out to open the closet door again, but he grabbed my hand to stop me. "Hey, where do you think you're going?" he hissed.
"I don't want to fucking hear my brother having sex."
"Trust me, you want to see it even less."
That was an argument that convinced me to stay. I almost caved in shame, after all, I was the one who got us both into this situation.
"Oh my god, fuck. You're so wet.". We heard Sunghoon groaning again. "I want your fingers. Please give me your fingers...", the girl begged with a whining voice.
That's the point where I finally lost it. I wanna die RIGHT NOW. Take me out of here. Please. My face and ears were burning in shame. Why the fuck must Heeseung stand right in front of me? I barely had another choice than looking straight into his face.
Heeseung sighed, his head resting sideways against the wall.
But my eyes kept staring down, holding my breath. I avoided his gaze as best as I could. Once I get out of here, i'll leave this city and never come back.
"We should keep talking to make it less awkward.", suggested Heeseung in a whisper. I looked at him as if he had lost his mind, but it was just in the second when the girl released another high pitched moan. "Okay, what do you wanna talk about?".
"How was your time in the US?". he asked.
"Uhmm...", I thought about what to tell him best, because this question was broadly diversified.
"Don't think about it. Just tell me anything.", he quickly added as he noticed my hesitation.
"I meet a plenty of new people there, of course. Some of them got very close to me, and we promised each other to text every day. What else... I went to a lot of parties, most of them were horrible to be honest."
"Really? Why?"
"Let's put it this way... a few times i got some drugs in my drink, and the other times it was just the alcohol's fault. But I guess I learned from my mistakes.".
Another moan shut me off.
"OH MY GOOOD." You could now also hear the bed crack at intervals. This totally tore me from my thoughts and the pictures in my head were running free again.
"Hey!" Heeseung tried to get my attention back, even though it was even harder for me now.
"It won't take much longer, okay?" he laughed. "It's just a quicky. They'll be done in a few minutes.".
I squinted my eyes. "Seems like you have experience.".
His laugh slowly faded and was replaced by a more serious expression. "Experience in what?".
I stared back at him, not knowing where my sudden courage came from.
"Forget it," I finally changed the subject.
"Another thing I realized in America is that I have to appreciate the beach a lot more."
Heeseung seemed confused.
"Really. We live right on the coast here. But how often do young people here go to the beach? Everyone is busy with school, video games, or just lying by the pool. No one really appreciates the ocean.".
"Hours of walking along the beach. That was really my favorite thing to do at nights with Jacob.".
"Jacob?"
My eyes went wide in shock. I just revealed one of my best-kept secrets. "Jacob was my boyfriend in the US. But no one here knows.". I explained without facing him. "I swear, If you're gonna tell Sunghoon about this, I will kill you.". I warned the boy.
"Of course I won't.", Heeseung assured me.
Outside, it had gradually become quiet. "Do you think they are ready?".
Heeseung pushed the cabinet aside a little with two fingers, but I stopped him. "Do you really want to look?".
"Do I have a choice?" he laughed softly. "Or do you still want to sit in here in two hours?".
I chewed on my cheek while Hee peeked outside. "They're getting dressed now," he said in a whisper.
I exhaled in relief, trying to move as little as possible. If my brother found us in here, it would probably be my last hour alive.
Besides, it was starting to get stuffy in the closet, which wasn't surprising given the small space. But still, I just tried to breathe as little as possible.
When the two had left the room again a few minutes later, I didn't hesitate long and pushed the closet door completely to the side and stumbled out of the wooden box.
"Oh my gosh. That never happened, okay!". I looked over at Heeseung who was more or less calmly climbing out of the closet.
"Sure. Are you coming back outside?" he asked suddenly.
"Ahh, no. I'm tired. I think I'll go to sleep," I waved off in panic. There was no way I could look into my brother's eyes anytime soon.
Heeseung just nodded. "Okay. Then sleep well," he smiled at me before returning down the stairs on his own.
"And thank you! For the bandage...", my voice went quieter and quieter towards the end of the sentence. Probably he hadn't even heard it anymore.
So I went back to my room and slumped back against the door. I squealed as my brain processed what had just happened a few minutes ago. "Fuck, fuck, fuck! This is so embarrassing Hyeona. You're so embarrassing, Hyeona.", I scolded myself and was startled to notice in the mirror next to my door that my head was still tomato red.
"Ahhh, I want to die!", I exclaimed in embarrassment. All I wanna do right now is sleep and forget this day completely.
On my way to the bathroom, I noticed a black phone on the stone tiles. I carefully picked it up and tabbed the screen. A lock screen of my brother's baseball team popped up. "It's Hee's.", I muttered to myself, while blinking down the stairs.
Heeseung POV
I entered the garden once again and nothing seemed to have changed. Sunghoon was standing by a group of boys, talking just like nothing has happened.
"Hee! Where have you been, man?", Beomgyu suddenly wrapped his arm around my neck, pulling me with him towards the bar. Jake and Jay were leaning against the counter, curiously glanced at their friend.
"Did you lay someone?", Jay raised his eyebrows, as I appeared back behind the bar. "You were gone for a good twenty minutes.".
"Shut up.", I eyed the younger one in annoyance.
"He left with this...damn what was her name again?", Beomgyu questionably contorted his face.
"HEESEUNG?". A voice made my spin around. Hyeona walked up to us, still in her pajamas with pink slippers. "I think you lost this upstairs.". She reached out the smartphone to me.
"Broo, you're dead!", exhaled Jake in a laugh, as he eyed her from top to bottom.
I took the phone without a word and noticed her puzzled look. "She cut herself on a shard and I helped bandage it.", I tried to clarify the whole thing. "Nothing else happened!".
Hyeona seemed even more confused and awkwardly took a step back. "I think I'm gonna go now.".
My eyes followed her going back into the house and immediately noticed their three piercing glances at me. "You three are jerks. She is Sunghoon's sister...".
"So what?", Beomgyu winked at me. "I'm just saying that Sunghoon will beat you up...".
