On the second floor.
âWhatâs going on?â
Qiao Nian had already called Ji Nan and closed the door.
Her voice had a calming power. Even though they were thousands of miles apart, Ji Nan still calmed down upon hearing her voice.
âHe came back a week ago. The news of his return quickly spread throughout the entire independent continent. I rushed home upon receiving the news but didnât see him. I didnât care at that time. After all, he had just returned. He must have a lot of things to deal with, so I went back first.â
After pulling out a chair and sitting down, Qiao Nian lowered her eyes and asked, âThen?â
âThen the next day, the third day⦠and every day after that, I went to the old residence to look for him, but without exception, I was stopped by his people. Until now, I havenât seen him.â
Ji Nan couldnât describe his complicated feelings.
He was now answering Qiao Nianâs call in the car outside the old residence. âItâs not just me. He hasnât seen anyone for more than a week. You know that during his absence, some people have caused a lot of trouble because of their seniority⦠Logically speaking, heâd have dealt with these people already. But he didnât do anything to them. In short⦠itâs very strange!â
Qiao Nianâs eyes flickered as she twirled the copper lighter in her hand. She agreed with him. âItâs indeed strange.â
Ji Lingfeng had been back for a week but didnât show up or see anyone. He didnât even see Ji Nan. This was very strangeâ¦
However, she couldnât read Ji Lingfengâs mind. Just like Ji Nan, she didnât know what Ji Lingfeng was up to.
âBy the way, when are you coming back?â Ji Nan already knew Qiao Nian was his cousin. Although they used to be buddies in the past, now that she had become his sister, he wasnât any more at ease. It actually felt a little unnatural when they talked about life and daily matters.
He was the kind of person who wanted to show some concern but did not know where to start.
He choked on it and wondered if Qiao Nian would misunderstand and think he was too cold.
In short, Ji Nan had yet to figure out how to treat her now.
Qiao Nian turned on the lighter. Blue flames darted out of it, dancing dangerously.
Her exquisite face looked a little tired. Her eyes were half-closed, and there was not much emotion in her voice.
âIn a few days.
ââ¦I still have some things to wrap up here. Iâll go back when the results are out.â
She was talking about Zhou Zhengâs final judgment.
Ye Wangchuan had said it before.
The nature of Zhou Zhengâs case was bad. That would shorten the time between trials and speed up the final trial.
Needless to say, this was definitely Old Master Yeâs doing.
It would take about 8 to 10 days.
Ji Nan did not urge her to come back. After a moment of silence, he suddenly asked, âIâve heard a lot of news about you in the independent continent recently. Did you go against her?â
âHuh? Who?â Qiao Nian did not understand what he meant.
The main thing was that she did not think in that direction.
Ji Nan simply said, âYour grandmother.â
The relationship between the previous generation of the Ji family was very melodramatic and complicated, causing this generation to be a mess.
For example, since Nie Qingru and Ji Wusun were legally married, they only had one daughter, Ji Qing.
As the current Patriarch of the Ji family, Ji Lingfeng was only an illegitimate son of Ji Wusunâs mistress.
If not for the fact that Nie Qingru had fallen ill during childbirth and was unable to bear another child, Ji Lingfeng wouldnât have been brought back to the family with his status.
Later on, when Ji Wusun brought Ji Lingfeng back to the Ji family and named him under Nie Qingruâs name, he lied, saying he had a child with her before marriage.
