Kathy is the best match for Sebastian. It was a simple statement, one uttered with casual ease, yet it lingered in my mind long after the words had left Sebastian's lips. The prince's words echoed in my thoughts, stirring up a mixture of conflicting emotions.

On one hand, there was a sense of relief. Kathy was a my sister, someone I cared for deeply and this opportunity is everything and not just for her but my family too. She was kind, intelligent, and had a grace and elegance that seemed to suit Sebastian's royal stature perfectly. Our families had been intertwined for generations, and there was a natural ease between us that spoke of a shared history and understanding.

The idea of Sebastian and Kathy together, sharing a future filled me with a sense of longing and loss. It was a selfish thought, one I tried to bury beneath layers of rationality and pragmatism, but it persisted, gnawing at the edges of my consciousness.

I couldn't deny the chemistry between them, the way they seemed to complement each other effortlessly. The world we lived in was not kind to those who strayed from the expected path, especially when it came to matters of love and desire. And so, I pushed aside my own feelings, burying them beneath the weight of duty and obligation.

Kathy was the best match for Sebastian, and perhaps that was how it was meant to be. As much as it pained me to admit it, their union made sense in a way that transcended mere practicality. They were two halves of a whole, destined to find each other amidst the complexities of courtly life.

And so, I resigned myself to the reality of their connection, pushing aside my own desires in service of something greater. For now, all I could do was support them, be there for them as a friend and brother, and hope that someday, I would find my own path to happiness, whatever form it may take.

...

Prince Sebastian has invited me to a gathering as, he called it.  A yearly occasion that is held, for whatever reason. As I stepped into the private quarters, the air was thick with the scent of smoke and alcohol. Sebastian greeted me with a warm smile, gesturing for me to join the group of men gathered around him. The room was dimly lit, shadows dancing across the walls as the flickering candles cast an eerie glow.

"Matthew, so glad you could join us," Sebastian said, clapping me on the back. "We're just getting started."

I returned his smile, though my mind was elsewhere. "Thank you, Sebastian. What exactly is this gathering for?"

Sebastian chuckled, leading me inside. "Ah, my friend, it's simply an excuse for us to let loose, to indulge in the pleasures of life without a care in the world."

I nodded, trying to hide my unease as I took in the scene before me. The room was filled with men of all ages and backgrounds, their laughter and chatter mingling with the low hum of music in the background. In the centre of the room, a group of scantily clad women danced provocatively, their movements fluid and seductive.

The air was heavy with the scent of smoke and alcohol, mingling with the perfume of the dancing women. The flickering torches cast shifting shadows across the faces of the revelers, lending an air of mystery to the scene.

I glanced around, taking in the opulent furnishings and elaborate decorations that adorned the room. Gilded mirrors lined the walls, reflecting the pulsating energy of the gathering back onto itself. Velvet curtains hung in rich folds, concealing hidden alcoves where whispered conversations took place.

The men around me laughed and joked, their voices rising above the music as they indulged in the pleasures of the evening. Some lounged on plush sofas, while others crowded around tables laden with food and drink, their laughter mingling with the clink of glasses and the rustle of silk.

Despite the outward appearance of revelry, there was an undercurrent of tension that ran through the room, a sense of danger lurking just beneath the surface. I couldn't shake the feeling of unease that prickled at the back of my mind, a nagging sense that all was not as it seemed.

As I navigated through the crowd with Sebastian, a man caught my eye. He was tall and impeccably dressed, with a rakish grin that spoke of confidence and charm. Sebastian noticed my gaze and steered me toward him.

"Matthew, allow me to introduce you to an old friend of mine," Sebastian said, clapping the man on the shoulder. "This is Marcus."

Marcus extended his hand with a charming smile. "A pleasure to meet you, Matthew," he said, his voice smooth and polished. "Sebastian has told me all about you."

I shook his hand, returning his smile with a polite nod. "Likewise, Marcus. It's good to meet one of Sebastian's friends."

Marcus chuckled, a twinkle of amusement in his eyes. "Oh, I'm not just a friend, Matthew. I'm a partner in crime, you could say."

Sebastian laughed, slinging an arm around Marcus's shoulders. "That's one way to put it. Marcus here knows how to liven up any gathering."

Marcus winked at me, his grin widening. "Indeed I do. So, Matthew, are you ready to let loose and have some fun?"

I hesitated, unsure of how to respond. The atmosphere of the gathering was intoxicating, but there was an edge to it that made me uneasy. Still, I couldn't deny the allure of escapism, if only for a night.

"I suppose a little fun couldn't hurt," I said, forcing a smile. "Lead the way, Marcus."

As the night progressed, the atmosphere in the room became increasingly rowdy, fueled by copious amounts of alcohol and the infectious energy of the gathering. Amidst the laughter and chatter, someone suggested playing a drinking game, and before I knew it, we were all gathered around a table, glasses in hand, ready to partake in the revelry.

Sebastian grinned mischievously, his eyes sparkling with anticipation. "Alright, gentlemen, let's make this interesting," he declared, pouring shots of whiskey for each of us. "Whoever finishes their drink last has to... hmm, let's say they have to dance with one of the lovely ladies over there."

The men around the table laughed, raising their glasses in agreement. I hesitated for a moment, but the excitement of the game proved too tempting to resist. With a shrug, I joined in, downing my drink in one gulp and slamming the glass back onto the table.

The whiskey burned as it went down, igniting a fire in my belly that spread through my veins like wildfire. The room swayed around me, the faces of my companions blurring together in a dizzying haze. But I couldn't stop now, not when the thrill of the game pulsed through my veins like a drug.

Round after round, we drank and laughed, the competition growing fiercer with each passing minute. I lost track of time as the alcohol clouded my senses, drowning out the worries and responsibilities that had weighed so heavily on my mind.

But as the game wore on, I began to feel the effects of the alcohol more acutely. My head spun and my vision blurred, making it difficult to focus on anything but the burning desire to win. I drank faster and faster, desperate to keep up with the others, heedless of the warning signs flashing in the back of my mind.

And then, suddenly, it was over. The last shot was downed, and I realised with a sinking feeling that I had lost. The room erupted into cheers and laughter as my companions celebrated their victory, but all I could feel was a deep sense of disappointment.

Sebastian clapped me on the back, his grin widening. "Looks like you're up, my friend," he said, gesturing towards the group of women dancing in the center of the room. "Better get your dancing shoes on."

Marcus slung his arm around my shoulders, a wide grin on his face. "Better luck next time, old friend," he said, his words slurred with intoxication. "Looks like you'll be dancing with one of those lovely ladies after all."

I forced a smile, though my heart sank at the thought of facing the dancing women in my current state. "Lucky me," I muttered, trying to sound nonchalant.

Sebastian chuckled, his arm slung casually around my shoulder. "Don't worry, Matthew, I'll make sure you get the prettiest one," he teased, his eyes twinkling with amusement.

I rolled my eyes, though I couldn't help but be grateful for his lightheartedness. "Gee, thanks, Sebastian," I replied, my tone dry. "I'll be sure to remember that when I'm making a fool of myself out there."

I tried to protest, but my words slurred together incoherently, lost in the haze of alcohol that clouded my mind. With a resigned sigh, I stumbled to my feet, the room spinning around me as I made my unsteady way towards the dancers.

And as I took my place among them, swaying and stumbling to the rhythm of the music, I couldn't help but wonder how I had ended up here, lost in a sea of drunken revelry and forgotten dreams. But for now, all I could do was dance, letting the music carry me away on a wave of intoxication and regret.

...

As I stumbled through the dance, lost in a haze of alcohol and confusion, I felt a hand on my arm, pulling me away from the crowd of dancers. Blinking blearily, I turned to see Sebastian's familiar face, his eyes alight with mischief and something more.

"Come on, Matthew, let's get some fresh air," he said, his voice slurred with intoxication as he led me away from the throng of revelers. I followed him obediently, too drunk to protest or resist.

We stumbled out into the cool night air, the scent of smoke and alcohol fading into the background as we leaned against the balcony railing, catching our breath. Sebastian turned to me, his gaze intense as he reached out to brush a lock of hair from my face.

"You know, Matthew, you look absolutely stunning tonight," he said, his words tinged with flirtatiousness as he leaned in closer. "I've always thought so, but tonight... you're positively radiant."

I felt my cheeks flush with heat, the alcohol only heightening the intensity of my emotions. "Sebastian, you're drunk," I slurred, trying to push him away even as my heart raced with excitement.

Sebastian chuckled softly, his breath warm against my skin. "Maybe so, but that doesn't make it any less true," he replied, his eyes twinkling mischievously. "You're like a rare gem amidst a sea of mediocrity, Matthew. A diamond in the rough."

I couldn't help but roll my eyes at his exaggerated praise. "Flattery will get you nowhere, Sebastian," I teased, though my heart fluttered at his words. "Besides, I think the alcohol might be clouding your judgment."

He grinned, his smile playful and infectious. "Perhaps you're right, but who needs judgment when we have each other, hmm?" he said, leaning in closer until our noses almost touched. "Let's forget about the world for tonight and just enjoy the moment."

I laughed, the sound mingling with the soft rustle of the night breeze. "You make it sound so tempting, Sebastian," I admitted, unable to resist the magnetic pull of his charm. "But I'm not sure I can keep up with your wild antics."

He chuckled softly, his breath warm against my skin. "Maybe so, but this is where we have fun," he murmured, his lips dangerously close to mine. "Let's have fun, shall we?"

I swallowed hard, my head spinning with a heady mixture of desire and confusion. "I... I don't know," I stammered, struggling to find the right words. "Sebastian, this isn't... we can't..."

But before I could finish, he pressed his lips to mine, his kiss soft and intoxicating. And in that moment, as the world spun around us and the stars blazed overhead, I couldn't help but lose myself in the heat of the moment, forgetting everything but the feel of his lips against mine and the promise of something more.

The night air enveloped us in its cool embrace, contrasting sharply with the warmth of Sebastian's lips pressing against mine. The scent of jasmine lingered on the breeze, mingling with the heady aroma of alcohol and the faint hint of cologne that clung to Sebastian's skin.

The balcony overlooked the sprawling gardens below, bathed in the soft glow of moonlight that filtered through the dense canopy of trees. Shadows danced across the landscape, casting fleeting patterns on the ground as we stood locked in our embrace.

Time seemed to stand still as we lost ourselves in the moment, the world around us fading into insignificance. There was only the sensation of Sebastian's lips moving against mine, the gentle touch of his hands as they caressed my cheek, the steady rhythm of our hearts beating in unison.

It was a moment suspended in time, a fleeting glimpse of something beautiful and fleeting. And as I surrendered myself to the intoxicating allure of his kiss, I couldn't help but wonder what the future held for us, for this unexpected connection that had blossomed between us in the darkness of the night.

"Prince Sebastian" called out General Hector.

Sebastian jerked away from me, pushing me slightly back. Both our eyes went to where the general stood at the entrance to the balcony, his expression inscrutable as he regarded us with penetrating gaze.

My heart pounded in my chest, fear gripping me as I realised the gravity of the situation. Someone has seen us. Would General Hector report what he had witnessed to the king?

"Yes, General Hector?" Sebastian replied, his tone casual, though I could sense the underlying tension in his voice.

General Hector's gaze flickered between us, his eyes narrowing slightly as if sensing something amiss. "Forgive the interruption, Your Highness, but there are urgent matters that require your immediate attention," he said, his voice clipped and urgent.

Sebastian nodded, his demeanor shifting subtly as he straightened, all traces of our earlier intimacy disappearing in an instant. "Of course, General. Lead the way," he said, gesturing for Hector to precede him.

As they left the balcony, Sebastian cast one last glance over his shoulder, his eyes meeting mine with a silent plea for caution. And as I watched him disappear into the darkness, I couldn't shake the feeling that our encounter had put us both in grave danger, the consequences of which could be far-reaching and irreversible.
