During their wanderings of the Ghost Zone, Danny and Chelsea discovered a gaping cave made of craggy gray stone. The odd formation drew Chelseaâs gaze and she floated up to it.
âCareful,â Danny warned, following her. âYou never know what youâll find around here.â
The cave seemed endless. Chelsea didnât go in but examined the edges. She saw a five-pointed star etched into the wall, and below that, a list of words. She recognized âEarth,â but that was it. The rest were gibberish. And why were there three Earths listed?
She sounded out one of the words, her fingers tracing the letters. âDenduronâ¦â
To her surprise, a light shone inside the cave. With it came harmonious musical notes, like youâd hear from tuning forks. The rocks started to clear like they were made of crystal. She felt a tug that grew stronger with the light and the sounds.
âWhat did you do?â Danny asked frantically, floating beside her.
âI just read a word,â Chelsea said, pointing. The light was getting so bright they had to shield their eyes, the music notes so cacophonous they had to cover their ears.
âHurry!â Danny shouted. âI feel it sucking me in!â
âMe, too!â Chelsea replied, but she couldnât escape the pull. Try as they might, Chelsea and Danny couldnât fly away. They were trapped.
The bright light flashed, and the two found themselves in a strange tunnel made of crystal-clear rocks. Beyond the rocks were thousands of tiny stars. Were they in outer space? But how? The Ghost Zone didnât connect to outer space. Or did it? The music notes continued, but now they wooshed past, fading in and out quickly.
âWhat is this?â Chelsea asked in awe.
âI donât knowâ¦â Danny replied.
Chelsea whipped her head to look at him. âYou donât know?â
âHey, Iâve only explored a fraction of the Ghost Zone,â Danny said. âThis could be anything.â
âAlright, alright,â Chelsea said. âSo⦠what do we do now? Just ride this out and hope for the best?â
âIf you want do to that, then fine,â Danny said. âMe, on the other hand, Iâm going to bust my way out of here. As⦠soon as I get my powers working.â
âYour powers arenât working?â Chelsea asked, alarmed. She tried creating an ectoball to no effect. âMine arenât either!â
Danny crossed his arms and frowned. âI hate this floating feeling.â
âButâ¦â
âI know, I know, I float all the time,â Danny said. âBut thatâs my choice. This isnât. I donât like it.â
âYouâre just miffed that you canât blast your way out of here,â Chelsea said with a smirk.
âArenât you concerned?â Danny asked.
âNah,â Chelsea said. âWeâre not getting hurt, and itâs pretty. Just relax and enjoy the ride.â She put her hands behind her head and kicked up her feet.
âHow can I when we donât even know where we are?â Danny countered. âOr where weâre going.â
âWeâll figure it out,â Chelsea said. âJust enjoy the view.â
Danny looked up and around. âYeah, I guess it is pretty.â
They didnât know how long the ride lasted, but they could tell they were moving fast because of the music notes whizzing by.
After a moment of silence, Danny spoke up. âHave I ever told you that I wanted to be an astronaut growing up?â
âNo!â Chelsea said. âIt sounds like you gave up on that dream. Why?â
Danny gave her a flat look and motioned to his body.
âOh, right,â Chelsea said, blushing. âI guess being a ghost puts a damper on things. I donât know what I wanted to be, other than a princess of course. I never saw a future for myself. No wait, I take it back. I wanted to be a mommy, but that was when I was really young.â
Danny looked away. âCan you⦠Do you mind telling me how long you were sick?â
âI donât mind,â Chelsea said. âI was in kindergarten when I had my first seizure, but I wasnât diagnosed for another two years after that.â
âDid you⦠always know you were going to die?â
Chelsea tilted her head in thought. âNo. I donât any child knows that. Then my grandpa Parley passed away when I was six. Thatâs when I learned about death.â
âYou know,â Danny said thoughtfully, âmy parents have always been obsessed with ghosts, but it wasnât until I became one that I thought about death.â
âI think weâre at the end,â Chelsea said as the light and music swelled. âSorry to cut you shortââ
The two were deposited gently on their feet. Behind them, the tunnel quieted to a normal cave. They looked around for any sign of where they were, but all they saw was more cave.
ââBut I think weâre here,â Chelsea said. âWherever here isâ¦â
âSo⦠how do we get back to the Ghost Zone?â Danny wondered.
At his words, the tunnel came alive once more. The lights and music started up again, and they felt tugging at their bodies.
âThat seemed to do the trick,â Chelsea said. âI wish we could have looked around a bitâ¦â
âI donât,â Danny said.
âHey, I think I see someone!â Chelsea said, squinting. She waved. âHi!â Then the tunnel picked them up and they were on a journey again. âDarn it!â

Bobby Pendragon watched the two figures disappear into the flume. Who were they? Where did they come from? Were they more of the Travelers that Uncle Press told him about? So many questions and no answers. Such was Bobbyâs life right now.

Back in the strange tunnel, Chelsea asked, âWhat were we talking about before?â
âYou seem relaxed,â Danny remarked.
âWell,â Chelsea replied, âI think this tunnel is pretty⦠whatâs the word Iâm looking for? Safe? Yeah, safe. Thereâs nothing to worry about, so we might as well chat.â
âYeah, I guess so,â Danny said, eyes darting around.
âTrust me, Danny,â Chelsea said. âWeâre on our way home, Iâm sure of it. Death! Thatâs what we were talking about. Maybe we should change the subject.â
âLike what is this tunnel?â Danny suggested.
âMy guess is a portal of some kind,â Chelsea said.
âThatâs obvious,â Danny said. âIt took us from one place to another. Itâs different from any other portal Iâve seen before, though. Most ghost portals are just a hole in the sky with one side in the Ghost Zone and one side in the human realm. Thereâs no tunnel in between.â
âIâll bet that person I saw would know,â Chelsea said excitedly. âWe should go back!â
Danny shook his head. âThatâs not a good idea. We donât know what that place is like, or if that person is friendly. We donât want to intrude on a ghostâs lair.â
âTell me more about ghost lairs,â Chelsea said.
âI donât know much about them,â Danny said, âbecause I donât wander into random places. I do know that theyâre like a ghostâs home, and intruding on one would be like a home invasion.â
âI seeâ¦â Chelsea said slowly. âDo you have a lair?â
Danny cocked his head. âI donât⦠think so? Unless itâs in Amity Park, maybe. Maybe I should ask Frostbite. He would know.â
âWhoâs Frostbite?â Chelsea asked.
âHeâs the king of the yeti ghosts,â Danny answered. âHeâs the one who taught me about my ice powers.â
âOh, cool!â Chelsea said, pumping her fists. âCan I meet him?â
Danny laughed. âSure, why not?â
Chelsea hummed to herself in excitement. âIâm gonna meet a yeti,â she singsonged quietly.
Danny laughed again. âIs that why you want to meet him? Because heâs a yeti?â
âWell, yeah,â Chelsea said, âand because he taught you about your power. Maybe he can teach me something, too!â
âLike what?â Danny asked.
âI dunno,â Chelsea said. âMaybe he knows about ghost lairs. And cores. Maybe he knows someone who can help me with my core.â
âHey, I know about cores,â Danny said.
âYeah, but we have different cores,â Chelsea said. âFrostbite might know someone who knows about my core. Oh, hey, the music is reaching its climax.â
The twinkling music notes jumbled together, growing louder at the end of the tunnel. With a flash of light, they were in the Ghost Zone again.
âThat was fun!â Chelsea said. âLetâs do it again! Denââ
âNo!â Danny said, putting a hand to her mouth. âLetâs move on.
Chelsea and Danny passed a portal that led to a dark void. Chelsea, ever curious, floated up to the portal.
Danny groaned. âDonât go in there!â
âIâm not,â Chelsea said. âI just want a better look.â
âRemember what happened last time you did that?â Danny warned.
âYeah,â Chelsea said. âThat was fun!â
Danny sighed.
Suddenly, they got sucked into the void portal.

âWhat did you do this time?â Danny shouted.
They floated a few feet above the ground in the bright sunshine of a clear day. Two monsters stood and floated in front of them. The one that stood had two heads and looked kind of like a black dragon. The other one was the size of the first oneâs head and had a purplish, blob-like body. Behind the monsters stood a person wearing a strange outfit.
âYou can talk?â came a voice behind Chelsea and Danny.
The two whipped around to see another person holding two red and white balls.
Danny flew right up to the person who spoke. âWhatâs going on, here? Where are we?â
The person backed up. âThis is the Galar region! Weâre having a Pokemon battle. You donât look like Pokemon. How did you come out of my Pokeballs?â
The other person said, âMidreavus, Zweilous, return!â The monsters turned into specks of light that flew to them. They also held two red and white balls. âWhatâs with your Pokemon, man? Iâve never seen Pokemon like that before!â
âWeâre not Pokemon,â Chelsea said. âWeâre ghosts. How do we get back to the Ghost Zone?â
âLet me see if I can return you to the Pokeballs,â the first person said. âUm⦠what are your names?â
âIâm Chelsea and this is Danny.â
âChelsea, Danny, return!â the person said, holding up the balls. Nothing happened.
Danny threw up his hands. âGreat! Now weâre stuck here!â He stormed away, and Chelsea followed him.
âIâm sorry!â the first person shouted after them.
Danny ignored them. To Chelsea, he said, âThis is all your fault.â
âI didnât do anything!â Chelsea said. âI think those Pokeball things pulled us through the portal. We were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.â
âWell, now we have no way of going home,â Danny said.
Just as he said this, a portal opened up in front of them.
âThat⦠is weird,â Chelsea said.
Danny looked around but saw nothing.
âLetâs go,â Chelsea said, and pulled him through the portal.
On the Ghost Zone side of the portal, a blob ghost waited for them. When it saw them, it bared its fangs and growled.
âUh, Danny?â Chelsea said.
âYeah, I see it,â Danny said through gritted teeth. His hands already glowed green with ectoplasm. He shot at the blob ghost and grabbed Chelseaâs hand. âLetâs get out of here!â
The blob ghost wasnât deterred. It absorbed the ectoblasts like they were nothing. It only became enraged and charged after them.
Chelsea and Danny flew away as fast as they could, but the blob ghost gained on them. Chelsea spotted a door that looked like it was made of emeralds and shouted, âThis way!â
âNot a good idea,â Danny shouted back.
âWhat choice do we have?â Chelsea countered, ripping the door open.
They flew through the door and slammed it closed. They took a moment to regain their breath, even though they were in ghost form and didnât need to breathe. Chelsea looked around to see everything colored green. It appeared they were in the back of a clothing shop that only sold green clothes.
âWhy is everything green?â Chelsea wondered. âLetâs explore a little bit.â
âNo,â Danny said. âWe should go right back to the Ghost Zone. Remember what I said about ghost lairs? We donât want to disturb the ghost that lives here.â
Something crashed into the other side of the door.
âWe canât go back,â Chelsea said. âThe blob ghost is there.â
âRight,â Danny said. âLooks like your wish is about to be granted.â
âReally?â Chelsea squealed.
âReally,â Danny replied.
âLetâs borrow some clothes so we blend in,â Chelsea suggested, floating over to one of the clothing racks.
âBetter idea,â Danny said, stopping her with a hand on hers, âletâs just stay invisible.â
âOh, fine,â Chelsea said.
They held hands so they wouldnât lose each other, and then turned invisible. They left the clothing shop and flew up into the sky. The buildings were all green, and they were tall. Skyscrapers, even. It took them a while before they were above the buildings. Around the city, rolling hills of green were cut by a yellow road.
âI think I know where we are!â Chelsea said.
âWhere?â Danny asked.
âEmerald City,â Chelsea answered. âYou know, in Oz.â
âLike, the Wizard of Oz?â
âYeah!â
âBut thatâs just a story,â Danny said. âHow are we in a story?â
Chelsea shrugged, then remembered that Danny couldnât see her. âI donât know. You said the Ghost Zone is also known as the Infinite Realms, right? Maybe that includes fantasy realms.â
âThatâs crazy!â Danny said.
âBeing half ghost is crazy,â Chelsea retorted. âWe live the crazy every day of our lives.â
âTrue,â Danny said. âLetâs go back. That blob ghost has probably moved on.â
âOkay,â Chelsea said.
They flew back to the clothing shop and went back through the portal to the Ghost Zone. To their relief, the angry blob ghost disappeared.
Chelsea and Danny didnât go very far before seeing a beautiful painting of a snowy landscape. Chelsea was enchanted by the painting, having never seen anything so real.
âI can almost feel the cold,â she remarked, her hand outstretched.
âOh no, not again!â Danny said, snatching her hand out of the air. In doing so, her fingers brushed the painting and they were sucked in. They landed in a heap in the snow.
âOwâ¦â Chelsea said, rubbing her bottom.
âUh, Chelsea,â Danny said, âlook up.â
She did so but didnât see anything. âWhat am I looking at?â
âThereâs no ghost portal,â Danny said. âHow are we going to get home this time?â
âMaybe if we just fly around, weâll find a random portal again,â Chelsea suggested nervously.
âI hope so,â Danny said. They picked a direction and started flying. âYou really need to be more careful about portals,â he admonished.
âOkay, okay, Iâm sorry,â Chelsea said. âIâll stay away from portals from now on. I just couldnât help myself this time. Itâs like the painting called to me.â
âI see something in the distance,â Danny said.
âYeah, me too,â Chelsea agreed. âLooks like a tower. Maybe weâll find something in there.â
They approached the tower in silence. It didnât take them long because they were flying. As they got closer, they were able to see that the tower was the corner of a castle. A blizzard kicked up, buffetting them around.
âLetâs hurry inside,â Chelsea shouted over the wind.
Just as they reached the edge of the castle, a light flashed in a room above them. They looked at each other, and then Chelsea flew up to investigate. Danny was right behind.
In the room, a boy in pajamas struggled to keep the door closed, holding a long pole. Surprise shone in his face when he saw them hovering in the window. Then the door burst open and the boy tumbled to the window.
âWe have to help him!â Chelsea said to Danny and zoomed into the room. She pushed back the guards who tried to get in and slammed the door. Then she took the pole from the boy and used it to keep the door closed.
âWhaâhowâ?â the boy stammered.
âCâmon, weâll fly you out of here,â Chelsea said to him. The guards pounded on the door but it didnât budge.
âWait!â the boy said.
Danny came into the room. âWhere can we go? The blizzard will kill him.â
âStop!â the boy shouted. Chelsea and Danny looked at him. âI donât know who you are or how you got here, but I want to be here. I have something that I need to finish.â
âThen why were you holding the door?â Chelsea asked.
âSo my friends could escape,â the boy answered.
âHow did they escape?â Danny asked. âWeâre trying to get home.â
âFirst, I gotta know,â the boy said, âhow did you get here?â
âI touched a painting,â Chelsea said, âand it sucked us in.â
âThen I think I can get you back home,â the boy said.
âReally?â Danny asked.
âYeah,â the boy said. âI just need some painting supplies. My nameâs Daisuke Niwa, by the way. Whatâs your names?â
âIâm Chelsea Ghost, and this is Danny Phantom.â
Daisuke held out a hand. âNice to meet you.â
Chelsea shook his hand, but Danny asked, âHow are we supposed to get you painting supplies when there are guards outside the door?â
âWeâll just ask them,â Daisuke said.
âWhat?â Chelsea and Danny said together.
âI told you,â Daisuke said, âI want to be here. The guards will take us to the supplies I need. Can you⦠let them in, now?â
Chelsea and Danny looked at each other and shrugged. Danny removed the pole from the door and the guards burst through.
âIâll help you!â Daisuke shouted to the guards. âBut first, I have to help these two. I need my paints and a blank canvas.â
âCome with us,â a guard said, and they were led out of the room.
A few minutes later, Daisuke had the supplies he needed.
âTell me what your world looks like,â Daisuke instructed.
Danny described the Ghost Zone, and Daisuke started painting. In no time at all, Chelsea and Danny stared at a perfect rendition of the Ghost Zone.
âWow!â Chelsea said. âItâs like youâve been there!â
âYou should be able to go back the way you came,â Daisuke said. He appeared tired. Did painting take his energy? Was it magic?
Chelsea didnât have time for questions. Danny grabbed her hand and touched the painting.
âThank you!â Chelsea cried out as she felt herself sucked through.
âNo more Ghost Zone for today,â Danny declared when he and Chelsea were back safely.
âFine by me,â Chelsea said. âIâve had enough adventure for one day.â
They floated through the purple and green realm, heading back to the stable portal in the basement of Dannyâs house. Before they made it home, however, they were sucked into another random portal. This time, they were disoriented from the abrupt transportation. Before they could get their bearings, they heard a voice.
âCurses!â
They were in a clearing in the middle of a forest in the dead of night. Underneath them was a circle with strange markings. A man stood off to the side, though he looked too young to have hair that white.
âWhat have you done this time?â Danny hissed at Chelsea.
âNothing!â Chelsea replied.
âThe summoning has failed!â the white-haired man wailed. âUnless⦠Are you servants of Ganondorf?â
âWho?â Chelsea asked.
âPah!â the man said, throwing his hands. âTell me, where are you from?â
âWhy should we tell you anything?â Danny asked, getting into a defensive stance.
âMaybe I can gleam where I went wrong,â the man said. He pulled out a notebook and pencil.
âDid you bring us here?â Danny asked.
The man blinked at him. âWell, yes. I meant to summon someone else, but you two appeared instead. Now, where are you from?â
âI donât trust this guy,â Danny said to Chelsea. To the man, he said, âWhoâs Ganondorf, and why are you trying to summon him?â
âHeâs a great wizard,â the man replied. âI want to summon him to bring balance to this world.â
âThat doesnât sound so bad,â Chelsea muttered so only Danny could hear.
âWill you answer my question, now?â the man asked.
Dannyâs eyes flicked around. Chelsea mimicked him and saw they were surrounded by monsters that looked like goblins. Hungry, drooly goblins.
âSend us back!â Danny roared, his hands glowing.
âThatâs not going to happen,â the man said. âAnswer my question.â
Danny went into fighting mode. He blasted at the goblins as they crept closer. Chelsea tried her hand at ectoblasts and managed to hit a few. But there were too many. They pounced on the two halfas, who flew up and out of their reach.
âAfter them!â the man shouted, pointing and Chelsea and Danny.
The two flew away from the clearing above the trees. In seconds, they were thoroughly lost.
âNow what do we do?â Chelsea asked. âWe didnât get here by normal means, so how are we supposed to get back?â
They were nearing a town of some sort, so they dropped down into the forest. All was quiet around them except for the chirping of insects.
âDo you think another portal will open up randomly and let us back into the Ghost Zone?â Chelsea whispered.
âThatâs not likely,â Danny whispered back. âWhy are you whispering?â
âIt seemed proper,â Chelsea replied. âWe donât want to be found by anyone, do we?â
âGood point,â Danny said. âSo, what do we do now?â
âWhy are you asking me?â Chelsea asked. âYouâre always the one in charge.â
âWell, I donât know what to do,â Danny admitted. âThis is beyond my experience.â
âI say we fly around until another portal opens up,â Chelsea suggested. Before Danny could protest, she added, âI know you think itâs silly, but it worked once before.â
They took off into the air once more. As soon as they were above the treetops, Chelsea spotted a portal to the Ghost Zone.
âLook!â she said, grabbing Dannyâs hand.
Dannyâs mouth fell open. âBut⦠how?â
âMaybe someoneâs looking out for us,â Chelsea said.
They flew through the portal. Once on the other side, they made a bee-line for the portal to Dannyâs basement.
âThis is the craziest day ever,â Danny remarked.
Finally, they made it home safely.
