Chelsea was surprised by some of the ghosts that showed up to Dannyâs eighteenth birthday party, Skulker being at the top of the list. Regardless, everyone was convivial and the party was a hit. That is⦠until the Observants showed up.
Observants are green ghosts with only one eye on their head. They wear white robes with gold detailing and a black belt. They also have black capes with more gold edging and red lining. Normally, they sit back and âobserveâ events in the human realm and the Ghost Zone. So, what were they doing at Dannyâs party?
The three Observants came up to Danny⦠and knelt.
âO Prince, it is time for you to claim the throne,â the Observants said as one.
What? Chelsea looked at Danny, whose mouth hung open. âWhat are they talking about?â Chelsea asked. The Observants waited patiently.
Danny laughed nervously. âOkay, good joke,â he said, looking around the room. âWho put them up to this? Was it you, Johnny?â
Johnny 13 shook his head.
âThis is no joke, Prince Phantom,â one of the Observants said, sounding confused. âYou defeated Pariah Dark, and now that you are of age, you may claim his throne.â
âI âmayâ claim his throne?â Danny said. âThat means I donât have to, right?â
The Observants looked at one another. âWe have seen the future, and it is with you as king.â
âButâ¦â Danny stuttered, âbut I donât want it! I belong in Amity Park!â He floated back a little, his voice rising in panic.
The Observants rushed forward and grabbed Dannyâs arms. âPlease do not resist. Itâs for your own good, and the good of the Ghost Zone.â
Of course, Danny didnât obey. He struggled against them, shouting, âStop it! I donât want to be king!â
Chelsea shot an ectoblast at the Observants, and they stumbled away.

âThanks,â Danny said breathlessly, and then he zoomed away, Chelsea right behind him.
When they were far enough away, Chelsea said, âYou never told me you were a prince!â
âI didnât know!â Danny said, still flying at top speed.
âDanny, letâs stop and talk about this,â Chelsea pleaded. She was struggling to keep up. She would lose him soon if he didnât at least slow down.
To her relief, Danny slowed to a stop. âFine. Weâll talk. What is there to talk about? The Observants want me to give up my duties as guardian over Amity Park. I canât have that.â
âYou donât know that,â Chelsea said. âThey never said anything like that.â
Danny looked at her, his eyes shining with unshed tears. âHow else can it be? I canât be king and protector. The responsibilities would be too much.â
âAs king, you would be protector,â Chelsea argued. âYou could decree the human realm off limits to ghosts.â
âWhat about the friendly ghosts who mean no harm?â Danny asked.
âWell, okay, maybe my idea isnât so good,â Chelsea conceded. âIâm sure you can figure it out, though.â
âYou think so?â
âI know so. Come on, letâs go back to the party.â
âI⦠I donât know, Chelsea,â Danny said, looking at his hands. They were shaking, so Chelsea grabbed them. He looked back up at her in surprise.
âIâm sure everything will work out,â Chelsea said soothingly. âYouâve handled everything that has come your way. You can handle this, too.â
Danny stared into her eyes for a long moment. Finally, he took a deep breath and said, âThanks.â
Chelsea smiled. âAny time!â
They flew back to the party. The Observants met them halfway.
âThere you are, Princeling!â an Observant said.
Another asked, âAre you ready to take the throne?â
Danny nodded. âI am. After my party is over!â He flew past the Observants and Chelsea followed.
Back at the party, everyone milled around and chatted quietly. They looked up uncertainly when Danny and Chelsea returned.
Danny stopped to hover in front of the small crowd. âI guess I have an announcement to make. Iâm your new king.â He winced at the words, and the cheer that rose didnât help. Chelsea held his hand reassuringly.
âYouâll be okay,â she whispered.
