BREATHING BLUE
----
It was all dark, then I was suddenly blinded by white and blue. I was still shaking from my way up the elevator or crate, or whatever the hell this thing is. My eyes starting focus more now, I saw a group of boys staring down at me, I felt my hands shaking against the cold floor. I saw most of them frowning and looking around at each other. I looked around frantically, the sun shining on my face.
Why cant I remember anything?
"Shes a girl?"
"Its impossible"
I heard whispers all around me, what do they mean? How am I the only girl? Whats happening? Suddenly a boy with unique eyebrows jumps in beside me and pulls me up without even asking to touch me. I gasped as I was thrown out of the box or elevator. I landed on the ground, scared to death, I crawled out of the way as the same boy stepped out.
"W-whats going on?" I manage to speak out loud, my eyes wide in fear.
"Your in the glade."
I hear someone say somewhere in the large crowd. I frown, looking around for the voice.
"Gl-glade? What the hell is a glade?"
Without answering my question, another boy pushes through the crowd, and looks down at me. He offers me his hand, asking if he can pull me up. I hesitate, but I grab his hand and he pulls me up.
"Guys leave her alone, she just got here okay?"
The boy had brown hair, and very pretty chocolate brown eyes. I observed him as he lead me away from everyone, leading me towards some wooden hut.
"I dont-dont know what my name is? Why?" I ask in confusion, it wasn't just my name, I couldn't remember anything before I woke up in that elevator.
"That's all normal, you'll get your name back in a day or two. You'll be fine." He exclaimed, holding my hand, leading me into the hut. It smelled like wood, blood, grass, flowers, everything, all around me.
"And whats your name?" I asked in curiosity, trying to catch up with him.
"Im Thomas."
Once we walked into the hut, it was just us two. He sat down on some log or something, looking like he was waiting for someone.
"How come I don't remember anything before I woke up in that old elevator?"
He smiled in amusement, like I had said something funny. He gestured for me to sit beside him, so I did.
"That's the box-"
I went red, embarrassed for calling the box an elevator. I looked down at my feet, seeing that I was wearing what looked like old sneakers.
"it's all normal not to remember anything." he finished, staring at me now. I looked at him, gazing into his chocolate brown eyes.
"But why?" I whispered, still staring at him. He hesitated, then sighed and looked down at the ground. "We don't know why. All we know is that a new person comes up in that box once a month, only remembering their name."
"Sup you ugly shanks."
We quickly turned to another boy who had just walked in, followed by a lot of other boys. One of them being the boy who shoved me around.
I frowned, what the hell did 'shank' mean? I don't even remember what I look like, was I ugly just like he had said?
"That's Minho, he calls a lot of people ugly shanks, so don't take it personally." Thomas leaned closer to me, whispering. I observed Minho, he was asian, he was tall, with very nice hair. My gaze then drew away from him, noticing the boy who shoved me around. He had unique eyebrows just like I remember from earlier, he had shorter hair, similar to Thomas's, but I personally thought Thomas's was better.
"That's Gally."
I nodded, keeping notes in my head.
I rew my gaze toward the door again, suddenly seeing a taller, skinnier boy with fluffy, dirty blonde hair. I watched him closely, he looked at me and smiled like a greeting, then he stood against the wall.
"Thats Newt. Hes second in command."
I frowned, glancing at Thomas. "Second in command to who?"
"Alby."
I looked at the door again, seeing the last boy was tall, black, with short hair. I observed everyone, hoping that I remember everything that Thomas was telling me.
"So y/n, I assume Thomas told you about some of us?" Alby asked, looking at me.
I snapped my gaze towards him, my eyes widened, I don't remember ever talking to anyone in my past, it was easier when it was just me and Thomas, but now I'm in a room full of strangers about to be asked questions from what I assume.
"Y-ya, I guess so." I stuttered nervously, glancing around the room. Was everyone in this place in this room?
"Okay well y/n, this is the glade."
I frowned, looking around the room once again, I felt my foot begin to tap the ground anxiously.
"What do you mean? What's the glade?"
Alby suddenly looks at Newt, and nods to him. Newt nods back in response and stands up walking towards me. I look up at him as he reaches his hand out, offering me his hand.
"I'm gonna show you."
I hesitated, but I took his hand, I stood up following him outside of the hut.
I guess I was so scared to even notice the large walls all around us, although there was a small opening like a door on the main wall. I looked around as he lead the way towards some tower that definitely looked unstable. I gaped in amazement, what the hell was this place?
"Hope your not afraid of heights." He calls down to me with a little smirk as he climbed the ladder to the top. I quickly followed after him, eager to get to the top and see it all.
Was this my new home? Or was this all a dream? Once we reached the top, I gazed down at how high we were, but quickly averted my eyes upward. I glanced at Newt, seeing him gazing around then meet my eyes now.
"I know it all seems intimidating, but I promise you'll get the hang of everything that happens around here."
I nodded quietly, then I glanced at him again, but looked back toward the walls.
"When I came up, someone mentioned that I was the only girl?"
He nodded, as if comprehending every single word that had come out of my mouth.
"That was Zart. And yes, you are the only girl. Which definitely has shocked all of us cause its been just boys for a while."
I flinched, and looked at him fully now. "For how long? What do you mean? How long have you been stuck here?" He looked at me, as if scared to even answer my question, how bad was it?
"3 years."
My eyes widened, and I took a deep breath and exhaled deeply as I looked back out, watching the sun set.
"Wow, that's a long time."
He chuckled, and turned his body back to the view, leaning against the wooden railing just as I was doing.
"Ya you could say that."
I glance at him with a little smirk, but turned back to the sun setting. Once a few minutes had passed, he stood straight up and began to climb back down.
"It's the bonfire tonight, in honour of the new glader. Come along now greenie." I frowned but quickly followed him.
A bonfire? I walked out, still following Newt. It was dark out now, the fires were everywhere, as if a bunch of firefly lights. I smelled the fire from a mile away, I heard the crickets all through the bushes, and I saw the light of the bonfire. I smiled in awe, as I began to focus back on Newt as he was approaching a log and sitting down against it. I hesitated, yet I decided to join him on the grass.
"So this is a bonfire huh?" I asked, looking around me in amazement, then back at Newt as he began to drink something from a jar. I wasn't sure why, but I watched his drink some of the liquid, until he slowly tipped it back, hearing his lips pop from the suction of the jar around his mouth. I took a deep breath, then quickly looked down at the ground, starting to fiddle with a piece of grass when I noticed him glance at me and smile in amusement.
"Yup, this is the bonfire."
I looked around us, seeing the huts, the clothes, the food, everything. It was all just so majestic. It was beautiful to see and watch.
"Its amazing how you guys built this all from scratch." I whisper-commented, as I glanced back at the large bonfire that people huddled around, holding the same jar Newt was holding and cheering. I glanced at Newt, but seeing him stare at me already. I quickly averted my eyes away and I looked at the jar he held in his hand, and I snatched it. I smirked, and I smelled it, making my face scrunch. It smelled terrible, I was just hoping it didn't taste as bad as it smelled.
"Try it. Im sure youll like it." He exclaimed, having a smile across his face, watching me intently. I narrowed my eyes, but slowly drew the jar towards my mouth and took a large sip. I coughed aggressively, I felt like my throat was on fire from a burnt orange. Newt was just laughing at me, taking the jar back and took another drink.
"Ugh! That's disgusting!" I claimed, looking at him drinking it in disgust. He glanced at me once again, still smiling sweetly.
"You'll get used to it."
I chuckled, and shifted my position to a more comfortable one. "Ya, I don't think so, but thanks for the offer." I commented sarcastically, as I looked at him again, I wasn't sure why though. He then looked at me now, I felt my face heat up, and I cleared my throat and stood up. He frowned, looking up at me.
"So, you gonna show me around or what?" I asked, a smirk across my face as I offered him my hand this time. He smiles and takes my hand, standing up beside me, leaving his jar on the ground where we left.
We begin to walk around, but instead of getting a tour, we ended up just talking to each other as we walked away from the bonfire.
"Anyway, do you remember your name yet? Cause I don't really think Greenie suits you." He chuckles, as we circle once again, taking another lap around the glade.
"No, I don't really rem--
"Newt!"
I look up, seeing a shorter, little boy with really curly hair run up to us. He glances at me with a smile as he looks at Newt again.
"Do you want to play a game with me? Minho wont play." The boy exclaims, looking a bit sad as he mentioned Minho wasn't playing with him. I look at Newt, waiting for his answer. He glances at me nervously than back at the little boy.
"Sorry Chuck, but I think I'm gonna stick ar--
"I'll play with you." I interrupt, looking at the little boy, I guess now known as Chuck. Newt looks at me with surprise. Chuck looks at me now, a bright smile plastered across his face. I could practically see the excitement shin through his brown eyes.
"Okay! Thank you! Were playing hide and seek by the way, I'll go hide!" He calls halfway while he's starting to run away. I smile, looking after him, I then spin around facing Newt, as to not cheat in the game of Hide and Seek.
"I remember Minho from the hut" I state calmly, looking at Newt.
"He's the leader of the runners."
I frown in confusion, tilting my head a bit as well. "Runners?"
He hesitates, then sighs. He nudges me in the shoulder lightly and begins to walk past me.
"You better go find him. Good luck y/n!"
I watch him leave, I stand there in the dark at the edge of the glade. I wondered what 'runners' were, and who Minho was. I sigh, trying to forget about all that, tonight should be about fun. Which is exactly why I started to go run back to the bonfire, trying to find Chuck. I really hoped I would remember my name soon though as well. So far though, the glade doesn't seem so bad, the people seem nice, the place is beautiful.
My only curiosity is what the glade is.
