Chapter 139 Benson Smith was about to protest against it when Nathan Cross suddenly spoke up.
âThatâs enough!â
Everyone turned to look at him in shock.
âWhat did you say?â Sebastian Smith asked as he was annoyed.
âYouâre taking the moral high ground. Thatâs overstepping the boundaries,â Nathan Cross said calmly.
Sebastian Smith glared at him. âYoung man, if youâre going to speak to me, at least do it with some respect.â
Nathan Cross kept his composure. âI should have but I couldnât.â
Sebastian Smith slammed one hand onto the table and pointed his finger at Nathan Crossâ nose. âYou reckless bastard! Whereâs your workplace?
Samuel Smith and company began to jeer at Nathan Cross.
âUncle, this useless thing isnât even employed. Heâs just feeling cocky after he got some money from Penny Smithâs construction project,â Samuel Smith said.
âCocky?â Sebastian Smith huffed. âI can deflate them with just one phone call!â
Samuel Smith and his party perked up in excitement as Penny Smith and her family began to panic.
Although they didnât know what Sebastian Smithâs designation was at the Grand Council, they figured that it wasnât a place for ordinary people.
Perhaps Sebastian Smith could actually take the project away from Penny Smithâs company just by giving the mayor of Channing a call. That could mean the end of the world for her family.
Penny Smith quickly turned to Nathan Cross and begged, âNathan, Uncle isnât someone we should mess with. Please apologize to him.â
However, Nathan Cross merely smiled. âNo worries, let him call the mayor. Iâm going to call his boss at the Grand Council.â
He turned to Sebastian Smith. âSince you work at the Grand Council, I believe you have the headâs phone number, yes? If you donât, well...I can give it to you.â
To everyoneâs surprise, he recited a phone number with much confidence.
Sebastian Smith watched Nathan Cross with fear in his eyes, almost convinced that he was done for.
However, when he heard the phone number that Nathan Cross recited, a smug look replaced the horror in his eyes.
He had never met the Chief of the Grand Council, whose name was Hudson Quarrington. After all, he wasnât anyone important in the Grand Council.
However, he could remember the Chiefâs office phone number.
The number that Nathan Cross gave did not match it.
Because of that, he figured that Nathan Cross was merely bluffing him.
âHuh! Youâre calling yourself a hunter just because you caught a rat? Fine then, Iâll call this number! Letâs see if youâre lying,â
Sebastian Smith said as he scoffed.
Unfortunately for him, Nathan Cross had just given him Hudson Quarringtonâs personal phone number.
As everyone looked on, he entered the number into his phone and started calling.
