253 The Setup
A few minutes passed, or more so an hour passed. I was in my room, scrolling on my phone, because I had nothing else better to do.
It was lunch time, so I had to do something.
The orange light from the sun poured inside my room, emitting light throughout the entire place. It was cool, and it actually looked nice, aesthetically sort of.
I heard a knock on my door, which I wasnât sure who, but I wasnât exactly excited to see who.
I opened the door, and I saw Nikki right in front of me. âHi, Connor,â she said, smiling a bit. âItâs been a bit of a while since we actually talked with one another.â
âWhat do you mean?â
She sighed, and she walked inside of the room. âListen, these past few days we havenât really been focusing on us as actual friends.â
âFriends?â
âFriends, somewhat,â she said. âI miss you.â
.....
âWell, some things have been happening a lot I guess,â I said. âDo you think nowâs a good time to talk?â
âNo, definitely not.â
That was very unexpected. You usually donât start talking about making time, and then when someone offers you too, that wasnât the point anyways.
âWhat are you here for then?â
âDr. Mord is giving us the location. He just met with him, somehow after an hour and thirty. Come,â she said, leaping off the bed.
I muttered, confused about what to say, which in the end, I sighed and followed after her.
We went back into the briefing room, and the next thing you know, a giant screen which presented a live video of Dr. Mord met my eyes.
He was a bit too close to the camera, so hopefully I can keep my serious face on and not start snorting in laughter.
âAlright guys, sit down, because something major has just occurred,â Mr. Drails said, before turning his chair around to face the screen.
âSo you said you got the location?â Mr. Drails asked.
âYouâd be correct,â he said. âI got it.â
âSo where did you set up the location?â I asked, very interested.
âItâs somewhere that I used to meet with the TSA. Not the place before I made the virus, but the usual place. Itâs a park called Winston Trail and based on my location, itâs thirty minutes from here.â
âWhere are you at?â Mr. Drails asked.
âIâm actually in this old cabin not close to there. I called up one of my buddiesâwho is not in the BMO, just as a little disclaimerâwho was just leaving this cabin. He was on here for a trip, and I knew this becauseâ¦never-mindâ¦anyway, just head to this street: 2100 North 5th Avenue, apartment 721. I will be waiting there for a few hours, but make sure you bring plenty of supplies and backup. If it gets hairy, I wonât be able to help you,â he said.
âDid you contract the BMO to be here?â Mr. Drails asked.
âYes, but theyâll be here, from very late. They arenât too far, but theyâll be here pretty late,â he said. âAlright, Iâll be waiting.â
âWeâll be there,â Mr. Drails said. âGood luck.â
âYeah,â September added.
âGood luck,â I repeated.
Mr. Drails then turned his chair around again, facing the screen. âAlright guys, Iâm going to go over the plan. I donât know how long this meeting is going to take, so weâre going to split up into two groups. One group is going to be the actual team, and the other is going to be the support team.â
âAlright,â I said. âWho?â
âMalachi, September and Tisiah will be the main team, whereas Connor and Nikki will provide support. Make sure that no one actually dies in this, probably except Luthor Bane with the dart gunâ¦okay? Now, I know itâs hard to tell when the meeting is going to start, but we should be fine. Weâre not going to need any backup at this point. This is a reconnaissance mission, so weâre only going to be observing. The meeting should be at the usual place, so Iâm going to assume that itâs there, so letâs do this. Get your weapons ready, and weâll be there at the first minute.â

We were close to the Winston Trail park, which was empty with no soul in sight. We were teleported, or at least transported in a portal to the location, and the first thing I saw was the emptiness of the road. It was as if a pandemic happened, which it will soon be if we donât stop Matthew Lock.
âGoodness sakes, this place is deserted. No wonder he chose this place,â Malachi said, sniffing carefully. âI hope this isnât some radioactive area.â
âWhy would it be?â Nikki asked.
âI donât know. It could have been a nuclear war zone, I suppose.â
âItâs just a park,â I said. âAnd itâs best thatâs silent. Come on, letâs take our places. We donât want to mess this up.â
We took our positions. I was the one to look into the distance, where I could see the field of trees. I was in the back of the group, with Nikki behind me. I felt like a sniper, but I wasnât. I was the one who would have to provide support for the others if anything went wrong.
As we cleared through the trees, I saw a gathering of BMO vehicles, and Dr. Mord there. There was a guy behind a few meat shields of BMO spies, with this vest with black-strapped boxes attached to it. The fake bomb. We were not super close, in fact, we were on a hill behind the border of the park.
âI think weâre good,â Nikki said. She was in the middle of our group, just beside me.
âWeâll see soon enough,â I said. I got the radio, and dialed the right number, before connecting to his channel. I spoke through it, hoping I wasnât too loud. âWeâre here, when will the TSA arrive?ân/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
âDepends,â he muttered. âI told you that theyâd be here, and they are, but not immediately. I canât say how long theyâre going to be.â
âAlright,â I said. âWeâll wait.â
I knew what I was doing. I wasnât the one who would be going inside. I was just the one providing support and watching the whole situation.
âHey, Connor,â Nikki said, making me snap back. I wasnât paying attention to where I was.
âOh, sorry. What did you say?â
âNothing, I just wanted to talk to you for a bit. I havenât talked to you in a while, and I feel like we should.â
âSo nowâs the best time?â I asked. She shrugged. âWe arenât rushing exactly, just saying.â
âWell, you never know. Itâs been a while since Iâve talked to anyone, and I wanted to get away from this whole situation.â
âOkay, yeah. Youâre right. Letâs just chill out, though. We can do that.â
âI canât believe Iâm actually hanging out with you,â she said, smiling.
âWell, I canât believe it either,â I replied. âIâm usually the loner, and youâre the social butterfly.â
âYeah, well, maybe that was before.â
âWhat do you mean by that?â
âI donât know. I guess that Iâm changing. I donât want to be alone anymore. I donât want to just sit and do nothing, because thatâs how I was before, but Iâm not that person anymore.â
âOr maybe you donât have the choice to be alone. Maybe, all this has made you moreâ¦confident,â she said. I leaned back my neck, and turned to look at her. âConfident? Were you just calling me a wimp just now?â I asked, which I was a bit offended by her.
âI didnât mean it like that. I was just thinking that maybe you just became confident in yourself, and thatâs why youâre acting this way.â
âIâm not sure about that,â I said. âI donât think thatâs the reason. I just felt like I had to act differently, and itâs just something I did.â
âAnd look at how it worked out. I think dealing with Demetrius Rocke changed you completely. Just how much he tried to kill you messed you up completely,â Nikki said. âOr upgrade you completely in this case. So you canât deny that something has changed you.â
âYeah, I guess so. But Iâm still the same person,â I said.
âWell, I think itâs good that you are.â
âReally?â
âYes. Iâm glad youâre different than you were before. You can be whatever you want to be. I think youâll be great at whatever you choose to be.â I shot a smile at her. Just seeing her smile made my heart flutter in adoration. âI guess,â I said.
But then the radio decided to disturb the moment, as Dr. Mord announced, âThe TSA is here. Luthor Bane has just arrived.â
âWait what?â I asked, quickly getting my binoculars. I rested them on my eyes, zooming in closer to see another gathering of vehicles, except it was on the opposite side of them. They were facing each other. TSA spies poured out of the vehicle.
âSo, we have two groups,â Nikki said.
âThatâs not even the main group,â I said.
âNo, but itâs still a lot.â
âThatâs a good sign,â Malachi said. âAnyone got sight of this?â
âYeah,â I responded. âThere are two groups of spies, and theyâre facing each other. There are four people in the first group, and theyâre looking around, but I donât know if theyâre scoping us out or what.â
The BMO vehicles were almost staring at the TSA vehicles, just like the spies that were exiting their vehicles.
âTheyâre definitely scoping us out,â Nikki said.
âMaybe we should just start moving,â I said. âIf they find us, then weâre screwed.â
âStay still, itâs going to be fine,â Malachi said. Then, the man of the hour exited his vehicle, and Dr. Mord approached him. âHello, Luthor Bane. You clearly know that weâve met before, correct? Well, Iâm glad to see that youâve brought some friends with you.â
âI guess so,â he replied.
âWell, weâre going to start the meeting, so make sure that your team is ready.â
