291 Breakfast Time
He went to the door to the left, which he opened up to a bedroom, with two beds, a dresser placed at the bottom right corner, a mirror directly on the wall facing the other side, a wooden floor and ceiling, and this fan that occasionally screeched.
âThese are your beds,â Barry said. âNow, itâs lucky that I have two beds, because I was about to sell one of them, and see if I could buy another gun.â
âWhy?â I asked.
âWell, before you guys came, I was going to get some people to help me on my quest. Luckily, you two came, and with your talentsâI think we can save this timid town,â Barry said. âNonetheless, here are your beds. Have a good nightâs sleep.â
He closed the door, which silence accompanied us in the room, except for a few creaks from the fan. âI donât know what we got ourselves into, but I hope it works,â I said.
Hans chuckled. âYou think? Weâre going to be chasing some beast around which Iâm quite positive doesnât even exist. Although, to be fairly honest, everything thatâs happened so far was completely supernatural to me, so maybe there is some beast killing people in every full moon.â
âDoubt it,â I said. I looked at the beds, before I turned my head up to Hans, who stared at me for a moment. We glanced between the two beds, the left blue and the right pink, before we glared right back at each other.
âI callââ
âDibs,â Hans said, pointing to the blue bed. I sighed. âCome on, how come I have to get this pink bed?â
.....
âBecause Iâm older than you,â Hans said, rubbing his chin. âPlus, pink is cool. I think youâll like it.â I gave him a cross look before I went towards my bed.
I unloaded the sheets, and climbed in, which Hans did as well.
âGood luck, and sleep tight,â Hans said with a chuckle. I puffed instead, turning to my right side as I looked out the window. The crescent moon looked down at me, as if it was saying: âItâs fine, itâs not the full moon yet.â
It wasnât comforting to the slightest bit. In fact, it was frightening me to the point I abruptly closed in the curtains, allowing darkness to fill this side of the room.
I sighed, closing my eyes and letting the stress drift away.

âWake up!â I heard someone shout, which immediately woke me up. I rose up, looking around only to see Barry inside the room, with his gun strapped on his back. âBreakfast is here.â
Soon enough, Hans rose up while leaning on the pillow, but his eyes were only opened ajar. He looked as if he was still closing his eyes.
âOkay, let me get myself settled first,â Hans said, his voice sounding like a dying engine.
âAlright,â he said. Then he pointed at me. âAs for you, come eat. Your friend will join us soon. Iâll tell you guys what weâre going to do once we go on our journey through the forest.â
âOkay,â I said, stretching my arms and legs, before resting my feet on the floor. I got up to my feet as I walked out the door, throwing a look at Hans, before I entered the living room. The smell of eggs caught my nose, when I saw the table filled with a bunch of eggs.
âOh, yesâ¦â Barry said with a smile. âI think I cooked well this time.â
I glanced at him and back on the food. There were five or six pots with lids on them. But since they were white, all I had to go on was the odor that emanated from them to infer what was inside.
âYou sure cooked a lot,â I said, my eyes addicted to the pack of pots and bowls. Barry chuckled, âI sure did.â
I followed Barry towards the kitchen, my stomach growling at the sight and smell of the food. Barry started to take off the lids of the pots, revealing a variety of dishes. There were scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, pancakes, and even some fruits. I couldnât help but salivate at the sight of the food.
âHelp yourself,â Barry said, gesturing towards the table. I grabbed a plate and started piling it up with food, feeling grateful for Barryâs hospitality. As I sat down, Hans walked in, rubbing his eyes. He took a seat next to me and started filling his own plate.
âThis looks amazing, Barry,â I said, as I took a bite of the scrambled eggs. The food was delicious, and I couldnât help but feel more at ease with the situation we were in.
âGlad you like it,â Barry said, smiling. âNow, letâs talk about our plan for the day. We need to head into the forest and search for any clues about the beast. I have a feeling that itâs been hiding in there.â
As we finished our breakfast, Barry went to his pantry and started packing some snacks for us. He handed us each a bag of trail mix, some granola bars, and a water bottle.
âThanks, Barry,â I said, feeling grateful for the extra supplies.
âNo problem. Just be careful out there. The forest can be dangerous,â Barry said, with a worried look on his face.

After we finished packing, Barry gathered us around him and started laying out the plan for the day. âAlright guys, hereâs what weâre going to do,â he said. âWeâll follow the well-marked trail for a few miles until we come to a fork.â
I nodded along, trying to take in all the information. âWhat kind of clues are we looking for?â I asked.
âAnything that seems out of place,â Barry replied. âFootprints, broken branches, strange markings on trees. Anything that could lead us to the treasure.â
âGot it,â I said, feeling a sense of excitement and anticipation. âWhen you say treasure, you meanââ
âYes,â Barry confirmed. âIf you guys see anything, please tell me. I know you guys are good fighters, but a little firepower might be needed for this beast.â
âFigures,â Hans said. âWhat are we there for?â
Barry put his finger up, extending the time between Hansâs question and his answer. He shoved his hands in between the two cushions which he pulled out two knives.
âRemember these?â he asked. Those were the same switchblades that those muggers utilized. Seems like that weapon is a popular one.
âA little stab is useful every now and then,â Barry said, handing us the weapons. âThese should be useful.â
Thenâright at that moment, three loud knocks banged at the door. Barry brought up his finger at us to keep us quiet, as he steadily made his way towards the door.
He took his weapon off his back, keeping right at his left hip. He looked through the window, but stayed close to the corner. But then, his head slowly turned towards us.
âWhat?â I asked.
âItâs Mr. Trilbyâs guys,â he said, which my heart rate climbed rapidly after the last syllable of that sentence finished.
âOh, shoot,â Hans muttered. âStay behind the couch.â He slowly approached the door with Barry, but standing on the opposite side.
âHello!â one of them shouted. âItâs your friendly neighbor!â
No one uttered a word. But then, they continued, âI know youâre in there, otherwise the light wouldnât be on. Just saying.â
Barry sighed, and rocked his head to the side in frustration. âOkay, what do we do?â I asked, but Barry could only stammer.
âI didnât expect to get a visit from muggers this morning,â Barry said. âThink of a plan, then tell me.â
âYeah, I do have a plan. Itâs just a bit risky, thatâs all,â I said. Barry looked at me. âDoes it hurt me in any sort of way?â he asked.
âNot directly. Maybe your house will have a hard timeââ
Barry shook his head. âWe need this place to have a headquarters to stop the beast. We destroy this place, and youâll find these muggers on our tail for the entire time that youâre ever here.â
I sighed, and three more knocks hammered against the door.
âShoot,â I muttered. âShould we open it, because theyâll never leave.â
âWhat do you mean? Do you want to die?â Barry asked. âThatâs a terrible idea.â Hans sighed, but then his eyes widened, which he quickly brought his attention towards Barry.
âIs there any back or secret door?â he asked. Barry shrugged. âSomewhat, but itâs going to be a very dusty ride.â
âDo you have some tunnel under this house or something?â I asked. Barry tilted his head to the side, which I sighed and narrowed my eyes.
