Most things don't surprise me. There are only a handful of times in my life that I have been truly shocked. Usually, I figure out what's going to happen before it comes to pass. Like that one time for my 4th birthday. My parents, when they were still together, pulled up behind a building and told me it was a pen factory. I, being the smart cookie that I was, knew instantly that they were lying and proceeded to tell them that it was my birthday, and I knew they had something planned. And sure enough they did. A "surprise" party at Chuck-E-Cheese.

But right now, with Stephen Marvolo Sims standing in front of me, I can honestly say that I didn't see this one coming.

He still looks the same. Just as tall and handsome as I remember him. The pictures that I googled do him no justice.

He's broader now, sporting some serious upper body muscles. He's grown his hair out a bit and has it styled to the back, with one perfectly coiled strand out in the front. He walks with just as much, if not more, confidence as always, and he's still wearing his signature smirk.

I wish his last name was Anderson, so I could reply to his cold "Ms. Green" with a winning "Mr. Anderson" retort.

But it's not.

I quickly mask my shock, and force a smile onto my face. "Mr. Sims. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe you have an appointment." I say pointedly.

"You're correct Ms. Green, but this is an urgent matter and I simply didn't have the time to make an appointment." He mocks.

Security chooses that moment to rush into the office. "I'm so sorry Krystina, I tried to stop him from coming in." Priscilla states guilty.

"It's fine. Actually, I need to you to clear my schedule for the next half hour. Apparently Mr. Sims and I have some businesses to discuss."

She looks momentarily dumbfounded, but quickly recovers, uttering a quiet "Yes Ma'am" before leaving with security.

"Please Mr. Sims, take a seat." I say gesturing towards the two chairs facing my desk. "Can I get you anything? A water? Soda? Crumpets? Tea?"

"No thanks. I'd rather get to the crux of this matter." He says crossing his legs. "Over the past couple of weeks, I've taken a very deep interest in this project. Such a deep interest, in fact, that I believe some adjustments need to be made." He pauses.

"From now on, you will no longer be consulting with Mr. Villarreal for this project." He says, obviously enjoying the look of puzzlement on my face.

"Instead," he continues once more, "You'll be working with me directly. I want this done the right way. S&S will probably keep this new look for a while. It needs to be completely to my liking, and the only way to guarantee that, is for me to be the one working on it." He says smugly.

I laugh internally.

He thinks he's sooo smart.

He probably thought I would throw a fit, and get upset at the thought of having to work with him.

He played himself.

He's inadvertently acknowledging the fact that the idea of working with him would make me miserable. He's basically admitting that he's shit company.

"No." I say simply.

He raises one beautifully arched eyebrow at me "No? That wasn't exactly an option Ms. Green."

"Option or not, it's not happening. I'm not sure how things are run at your company, but here at Paramount, once a contract is signed, the account cannot be altered. When we signed that contract it stated that I would be working directly with Fernando. Now, if you're trying to breach that contract for some petty reason, we'd be more than happy to sue you for a couple million. Your choice." I tell him with the most sincere smile I can muster.

"Now, you're more than welcome to sit in on a strategizing meeting, but that's it. You and I will not be working together. At all." I finalize, irritated by the smirk still in his face.

My eyes narrow momentarily. Why the hell is he still smirking?

"We'll see about that." He says, standing up from the chair. "You know what they say darling. Money talks." He smiles triumphantly before leaving my office.

And damn was he right.

Forty five minutes after the impromptu visit, I was in Mr. Welsh's office with both him and Stephen. According to Mr. W, we can bend a few legally binding rules for such prominent clientele.

AKA we'll make more money agreeing to what he says.

__________

"Stop worrying so much K! Kyle has a ton of nieces. He'll be okay to babysit Bryan for one night. He's done it before." Savannah says to me as we reach our table.

After hearing about my interesting day at work, she suggested a girls night out. Just me, her, a few appetizers, a dance floor, ridiculous music and some liquor.

It's a recipe for success.

"You know what I think?" She says over the booming sound of Imad Royal's 'Down For Whatever'. "I think you need to start dating again. I mean, I honestly think you might be making this whole thing deeper than it really is. I don't wanna sound insincere, but people get cheated on all the time. You're spending way too much time thinking about him, your past together, and all these crazy, less than likely scenarios. He's just an ex boyfriend, hun. Don't give him that kind of power. You'll drive yourself insane."

As usual, she's right. I am making this whole thing out to be bigger than it really is. We had a bad breakup, so what? Loads of people do, but they still move on and continue their lives. I have really got to suck it up.

"You're absolutely right. C'mon, no more talk about him, let's dance!" I shout as the chorus of 'Sorry' begins to play.

We're on the dance floor for about 20 minutes before Sav starts poking me excitedly.

"There's a Greek god eyeballing you from across the room." She says to me. "Looks about 6 feet, ponytail, terrible fashion sense, but the face of an adonis.

I subtly turn in the direction that she's pointing in near the door. I'm wiping the sweat from my brows as I search for the mystery man. My eyes finally reach him, but are quickly pulled away when another man enters into the room.

Hearing the first line of Michael Jackson '2 Bad' start to play, I realize the irony that the first few lyrics have in regards to my current situation............

"Look who just walked in the place"
