Chapter 22: Expert
Byron left Candiceâs apartment and went straight from the highway to the golf course in the northern suburbs. While waiting for the traffic light, he talked to Enos on the phone and said straight away, âI admit defeat.â
Enos was socializing and helping his family negotiate a business deal. When he heard this, he handed the golf club to his bodyguard.
âYouâre pulling out of the bet?â he asked.
Byron assented indifferently.
âYou donât want that Bugatti of mine anymore?â
The setting sun shone on Byronâs brow as he was driving on the highway.
With some hostility and vexation, he snapped, âI donât need it.â
Enos smacked his lips and remarked, âYou donât have that model. Itâs strange that thereâs actually a woman you canât handle.â

Enos knew very well that Byron was not a man who would give up halfway. As long as the battle was on, he would not withdraw until the last minute.
Although Byronâs words were tough, it was clear that he couldnât win at Candiceâs level.
If that woman was not st*pid, she must be of a higher level than Enos expected.
Back then, Vicky was the type to push and pull appropriately, controlling the game well and thus,
conquering Byron. Since she won his heart, he became head over heels in love with him.
He had a penchant for that.
When Byron arrived at the golf course, he got out of the car and at the same time, he received a text message from Candice.
Her message was short and concise.
[Professor Wilson]
There wasnât even any punctuation.
Chapter 22: Expert
In his opinion, it was perfunctory and insincere.
Byron didnât reply.

The attendant led the way to the back of the hill, and while they were on the way, Candice sent another text.
[Did you do something behind my back?]
Candice had already provoked him at first. Now that she had questioned him in such a hostile manner, Byron immediately blocked her and shoved his phone in his pocket.
Enos didnât come out to get him because he was competing with two men, one middle-aged and one much older. The latter was wearing a pair of gold-framed glasses and he was clearly poor at golf. However, Enos had deliberately given him some leeway and pretended to lose.
The waiter gave Byron a club, but it was a little dark and he was not in the mood, so he was distracted.
The middle-aged man won another game and was grinning while talking to the bespectacled man about Doctor Rogerâs private life.
âDoctor Roger and his wife got divorced and was cheated by his mistress of two apartments. His mistress is pretty smart to have sold them right after she got hold of them, out of

fear that his wife might take the property back. After getting a couple of millions, she absconded.â
âWhen did that happen?â
âJust last week. You should know who his mistress is. Sheâs that play actress, Vicky.â
Byronâs hand stiffened the moment he held the golf club up in the air.
The spectacled man immediately said, âYou mean that socialite from the playhouse, Vicky?â
âThat playhouse belongs to my old classmate, and Vicky is responsible for roping in investors. The owner of Racing Group has been her sugar daddy for five years, throughout which he invested 4 million dollars. My old classmate took 2 million and the rest was invested in the playhouse for hiring actors and rehearsals for performances.â The middle-aged man was deep in thought, âVicky is a great pillar of the stage. Many big bosses line up to invite her to dinner and drinks.â
They were laughing loudly like scoundrels.
Byronâs expression became increasingly sullen while Enos remained quiet at the side.
Chapter 22: Expert
The spectacled man asked, âWhy did she quit her job at the playhouse?â
The middle-aged man said, âSheâs got a long-term sugar daddy. Without hundreds of millions, you wonât be able to support her.â
âWell, everyone in our circle know her background well. Who would want her?â
âRobert is not a simple person.â
The spectacled man came to a sudden realization and said, âHeâs got a good reputation. The peers who work with him. have all made money. Doesnât he usually abstain from women?â
The middle-aged man put down the golf club and walked backwards.
âThere are no men who abstain from women. Usually, itâs because the women arenât to their liking.â
The spectacled man said with wonder, âSeems like Vicky is pretty amazing. It shouldnât have been easy to get cozy with Robert.â
Enosâ expression became even more sullen and he no longer had the guts to gauge Byronâs reaction at the moment.
Chapter 22: Expert
He was just thinking of countermeasures when a sudden strong gust of wind rose from behind him, and almost instinctively, he reached out to grab the source of the wind.
âByron!â he exclaimed.
However, there was no way he could control it at all. Like a madman. Byronâs eyes were filled with a murderous intent.
âWho are you talking about? Try saying that again!â
The middle-aged man was dragged unsteadily to his feet, stumbling unsteadily while resisting.
âWhatâs wrong with you!?!â
Byron threw a punch that was so ferocious that Enos winced in pain when he parried it with his arm. As he took the force of his blow, he jerked backwards and exclaimed, âByron. donât create trouble!â
The other man tried to stop the fight, but his glasses were broken and he turned his head to call security.
âSomeone is trying to commit murder!â
Enos winked at the bouncer and caught up with the man to stop him.

The spectacled man stopped and asked, âYour buddy?â
Enos took Byronâs shoulder and said, âMr. Myron and Percy have business dealings.â
He blinked unnoticeably and lowered his voice as he said, âIf you get caught, you wonât even be able to work as a doctor.â
Byron had completely lost his rationality and was not listening to anything.
He grabbed the middle-aged man by the collar and questioned, âDid you touch Vicky?â
âSheâs not a good woman anyway. Whatâs the matter with you?â the man asked, baffled.
Before he could finish his sentence, he threw a punch at the manâs nose, and he fell to the ground.
Enosâ face turned pale and he pulled him back.
âByron, wake up!â

The bodyguard separated the two men from each other and stepped in front of the middle-aged man.
âEnos, should we call the cops?â the bodyguard asked.
âNot yet.â Enos walked past Byron and bent forward to help the middle-aged man up.
âMr. Steven, youâve been frightened.â
The middle-aged man called Mr. Steven was infuriated and he hollered furiously, âWhoâs that man? He got physical as soon as he came here! Call the cops and have them settle this!â
He covered his nose and inhaled sharply, his face battered with bruises.
âMr. Steven, Iâm not stopping you from calling the police, Iâm just being nice and reminding you.â
Mr. Stevenâs expression began to change, from grumpy to calm and eerily quiet.
After pondering for a moment, he finally eased up and said, âMr. Enos, Iâm doing this for your sake.â
âI owe you a favor. Letâs cooperate in the future and Iâll give

âEnough, consider it my misfortune,â Mr. Steven said as he waved his hand.
Enos personally sent him out and got inside his car. When he returned, Byron was in the lounge and drinking a bottle of beer. There was barely any left in the bottle.
The scene just now had really shocked Enos.
He had heard before that Byron had stood up for Vicky and beaten the cheating photographer to the point of getting a concussion. He almost had to undergo surgery too.
At that time, he was not officially a doctor yet and was still doing an internship. At the same time, he was working in the finance industry but he hadnât risen to fame yet. That fight caused him to be threatened by someone and thus, his future was ruined.
The consequences were that he couldnât return home.
If he had not seen Byron hit Mr. Steven with his own eyes, Enos really did not believe that he could lose control to this point.
The patients, family members, teachers, and students, including his friends who have been in touch with him, had

all commented that he was gentle and gracious with boundaries, and that he would never cause any trouble.
Enos advised him, âIf Vicky canât stay in line, will it help if you hit them? It takes two hands to clap.â
Byron was incredibly depressed and dejected. His sadness was emanating from his bones.
As those memories resurfaced, they irritated his muscles and veins, as if they were fighting against him.
He put down the bottle and said, âLetâs go.â
Enos grabbed his hand again to stop him.
âByron, donât be impulsive, Vickyâs latest man is at least related to you.â
Without responding, Byron shook him off and walked away.
Enos wondered if Vicky had a hidden grudge against him, and if she was really involved with Robert. This was a huge blow to Byron.
Candice went to the Fortune Group office building the next day after work.
Chapter 22 Expert
Her target this time was the bossâs secretary, who would become a shareholder once Fortune Group was listed.
She was said to be a double degree holder from Cambridge University, with a large amount of financial resources in hand. She had risen to success in the business world at the young age of 34 years old.
The most important thing of all, some companies offered her a high salary of 1 million per year, but she did not agree, to jump ship.
Usually, there would only be two reasons for such strong loyalty to oneâs company in the face of monetary temptation.
One is that she had a secret identity, such as the bossâs lover who was about to get a proper status soon. The other would be that she owed the boss a favor or that the companyâs prospects were clearly immensely promising, thus spurring her to remain in her position.
Either way, Candice knew very well that she would not be able to poach the secretary with a $500,000 offer.
However, if she didnât try her best, Patrick would never be appeased and her life would continue being a living hell.
Candice turned around in the parking lot, stopped the

secretary, and then lowered the window, âMiss Robinson, may I speak to you for a minute? It wonât take long.

Nicole Robinson stared at her for a few seconds before asking, âAre you from Future Group?â
Candice handed over her business card and introduced, âThe president of Future Group is very interested in your business skills and has sent me to approach you.â
Nicole took the card and said resolutely, âLetâs go to a cafe and talk. Thereâs one across the street.â
On her last three attempts, Candice hadnât been able to meet her in person, but this time, she unexpectedly got a chance to speak with Nicole when she didnât get her hopes
up.
However, it did not go well as Nicole didnât seem too keen. on jumping ship. The Future Group was indeed also very inferior to Fortune Group. Candice wanted to conclude the negotiation but Nicole happened to have gotten a call halfway through. Soon after she hung up, Bentley pulled up outside the door, and a man in a suit entered.
Nicoleâs expression changed at this point.
âMiss Scott, your behavior is a violation of business secrets, and our boss wants to see you.â

Candice froze and subconsciously stood up to defend herself, âI didnât do anything.â
âIsnât it enough for you to inquire about executive
remuneration information and management structures from the companyâs front desk?â
After she was done talking, Nicole walked towards the door to receive the man.
From Candiceâs point of view, she couldnât see the manâs face clearly. It was raining outside so he was holding a black umbrella, exuding a domineering aura that was filled with a masculine gentlemanliness and wasnât unapproachable at all.
The manâs shiny white leather shoes were stained with a drop of water. He closed the umbrella and gently brushed the droplet away with the brim of the umbrella.
He was very concerned about the tidiness of his appearance, meticulous and sophisticated.
Most importantly, he looked familiar.
When he came in, Candice asked in surprise, âItâs you?â
âCandice,â Percy answered, clearly surprised too.

âSheâs my friend,â he turned his head to the side and said to Nicole.
Nicole immediately bowed to Candice.
âExcuse me, Miss Scott.â
Percy took off his blazer and slung it over the crook of his arm with a broad smile before saying, âYouâre so preoccupied with poaching my employee. Have you had dinner yet? Why donât we have dinner together?â
Feeling embarrassed, Candice said, âI really didnât know Fortune Group was your company.â
âWhat if you did?â He seemed to be teasing her, but also seemed to be asking seriously.
She thought seriously about it before answering, âItâs my job. Even though itâs unethical, Iâd still be poaching on the sly.
âYouâd continue poaching, huh? Youâre quite a bad girl, Iâve realized,â Percy said, bursting into laughter.
His laughter was deep and pleasing to the ears.
Despite her pure and innocent appearance, she seemed to

secretly have some naughty tricks up her sleeve.
She wasnât annoying but likeable.
She was like a baby fox that wasnât fully fledged and posed no threat.
Candice was a little overwhelmed and at a loss. âAm I bad?â
âItâs a compliment. Bad women are pretty popular,â Percy said as he turned to the side.
Rita and Vicky were both worse than one another, and yet, they were extremely popular.
Byronâs face surfaced in Candiceâs mind as she asked, âHow about bad men?â
Percy pursed his lips and said, âIâm not a bad man so Iâm not sure.â
When she passed through the aisle, she did not smell the perfume from his body, but only a very refreshing scent of body soap.
It was the most common scent, but the most unique embodiment of s*x iness.
Chapter 2 Expert
Rufus also preferred soap to shower gel. Candice had bought various brands of body soap except the one Percy used.
The soap was mild, gentle, thick, and subtle, just like Percy.
âYour secretary is quite loyal.â
Percy pushed open the door of the cafe and said, âSheâs okay.â
He called her âsheâ and not âNicoleâ.
A name and title would be far less connotative than âsheâ.
It was a symbol of secrecy.
Candice didnât say much.
Percy invited her to dinner at the restaurant on the second floor. Holding his briefcase and the blazer he took off, Nicole left first.
Candice smiled and remained silent.
However, Percy noticed her curiosity.

A womanâs intuition is usually very accurate. Candice could sense that his relationship with Nicole was not purely that of a superior and subordinate.
It was common for a married woman to be attracted to business elites like Percy, not to mention an unmarried woman who worked closely with him.
Candice poured a glass of wine and asked, âMr. Percy, do you know any top lawyers?â
âWhat kind of lawyers are you referring to?â
âThose who specialize in divorce cases.â
Percy asked with a frown, âHave you not been divorced?â
Feeling embarrassed to talk about this matter again, Candice explained, âThere is a dispute over assets. My parents did not agree to let me marry him back then, so I bought this house under his name before we got married. After we got married, he paid for the mortgage.â
Percyâs frown furrowed further. âBefore marriage?â
Candice knew she had been played out badly by Rufus.

âYes,â she admitted ashamedly.
âIsnât it jointly held?â he asked, filled with disbelief.
âAt that time, Rufus and I decided to put on an act after some discussion. He promised in front of my parents to add my name after we got married but he never got to it.â
After a moment of silence, Percy said, âYou loved your ex- husband very much.â
At the mention of Rufus, Candice snapped furiously, âI did, but I donât anymore. Now, I just hate him with a passion.â
He looked away and pondered about something.
âMr. Percy, is it possible for me to get my property back?â she asked cautiously.
âLegally, you donât have the right to split it since itâs your ex-husbandâs premarital property,â Percy said.
Candice was prepared, but she couldnât help but feel lost when she heard that there was no chance.
After a long while, Percy asked, âDid you keep the proof of payment for the down payment?â
Candice looked up and said, âYes, itâs in the flower pot on

the balcony.â
Percy was puzzled and looked at her without saying anything.
Candice didnât hold back and said, âOnce after work, I caught Rufus going through the closet and rummaging around, as if he was looking for something. When I asked him, he wouldnât tell me, so I sensed something was wrong and hid the proof.â
Percy laughed and said, âYouâre pretty smart. Maybe thereâs room for maneuvering.â
She blushed and said, âStop mocking me.â
Percy explained, âNo, nothing is rarer than pure affection.â
Candice bit her fork and said, âSuccessful businessmen have everything they need. Since when they care about feelings?â
âBusinessmen who have witnessed scheming plots and hypocritical lies can be desperately hungry for wild, even foolish, feelings and relationships.â
The way he comforted women was unobtrusive but hits right in the feels. He was probably an expert in love.
Chapter 22: Expert
However, Percy seemed more decent and dignified than Byron. Of course, she didnât rule out the possibility that he was just good at hiding.
A real expert will never show off and flaunt his skills. After getting sick of a woman, they would be able to get out of it resolutely without any messy ties. They would also be willing to spend money to shut them up and continue acting like a gentleman after shutting them up.
Although that was what Candice thought, Percy wasnât such
a man.
âAccording to you, I am very popular with successful people, huh?â
Percy grinned and said, âYou can say so.â
She raised her glass and said, âIâm very honored then, Mr. Percy, are you single?â
He answered with a nod, âYes.â
Candice took a sip of champagne and said, âWell, I hope youâll find your Mrs. Wilson soon.â
Percy was stunned and immediately afterwards, he downed his wine.
This woman was indeed different from the previous women Byron used to date.
He couldnât quite put a finger on what was different but he thought she was rather bubbly and attractive.
