Unwanted Information
Ihan hadnât particularly wanted to know, but thanks to a certain informantâwho rivaled even a regressor in terms of detailed knowledgeâhe ended up learning more about Loenâs romantic life⦠or rather, his divorce story.
âJudea Pierre, according to her background, was one of the orphans rescued by Cardinal Raphael during a pilgrimage. Out of gratitude for being saved, she joined the temple but somehow ended up as a Heretic Inquisitor⦠and somehow also ended up cross-dressing as a man.â
âThat âsomehowâ is really piquing my curiosity.â
âI⦠Iâd love to tell you, but unfortunately, I donât know either. I only know the basic setup since I avoided spoilers for the game and just followed the planning teamâs instructionsâ¦.â
ââ¦Sometimes youâre incredibly useful, but other times youâre absolutely useless.â
âYouâre so meanâ¦.â
Ignoring the excuse, Ihan dismissed him coldly, leaving Derek sulking.
âAnyway, how did those two end up getting married?â
âOh, that, I know.â
ââ¦You only know the weird stuff.â
âWell, anyway.â
Derek began recounting what he knew.
âJudea Pierre, after becoming a Heretic Inquisitor, was assigned as a spy to infiltrate the revolutionary army led by Duke Loen. As a spy, she gathered intelligence and delivered it to the temple. Her next mission, however, was to seduce and âeliminateâ Duke Loen.â
âEliminate?â
âWell, Duke Loen, as the leader of the revolutionary army, mustâve been a huge thorn in the templeâs side. And beauty traps, while classic, are still one of the most effective methods. Soâ¦.â
ââ¦He fell for it?â
Knowing Loen, Ihan found it hard to believe heâd fall for such a ploy.
âWell, it wasnât easy, but, uh, somehow, it worked outâ¦.â
âAnd what exactly is that âsomehowâ?â
ââ¦I wonder too?â
ââ¦â¦â
âPlease donât look at me like that.â
âThat damned âsomehowâ again.â
âAnyway, moving on!â
Taechang, eyeing the situation carefully, continued explaining what he knew about Judea Pierreâs story. Ihan, pretending not to listen, actually focused intently.
âOf course, Duke Loen being seduced wasnât without reason. Later, just before the wedding, Judea Pierreâs identity as a spy was revealed, leading to her swift exit from the story. Sheâs a late-game villain, and sheâs considered one of the âThree Great Villainessesâ because she causes the most harm to Duke Loen.â
âHm.â
âShe committed crimes ranging from sowing discord to spreading false information. Because of her, the revolutionary army suffered astronomical losses. To make matters worse, some of the knights Duke Loen cherished died because of her.â
âSounds like a legitimate grudge.â
âWell, yes, but considering this all happened in the future, isnât it a bit unreasonable to hold a grudge nowâ¦?â
ââ¦Youâre pretty arrogant to say that.â
âWhat?â
Ihan questioned the clueless Derek, who seemed unaware of what was wrong with his statement.
âIf⦠Karin had died, would you still say that?â
ââ¦â¦â
âIt might be a dilemma. Sure, itâs the future, and it hasnât happened yet. But people arenât that rational. Look at your face right now. Youâre terrifying.â
â?â
âGo look in a mirror, kid. Your face is seriously scary.â
ââ¦â¦â
Following Ihanâs advice, Derek touched his face and was shocked by how stiff and tense it was.
âAh, so this is what it feels like.â
Derek acknowledged his arrogance and began to understand why Loenâs gaze toward Judea Pierre was so filled with murderous intent, even if she was just a young girl now.
âForgiveness is something that should never be carelessly suggested.â
A Talent for Trouble
At least Derek was quick to admit his mistake. It wasnât that Taechang was a bad person; he just had a tendency to view the world a bit too optimistically.
Sometimes, this lack of malice led to comments that could spark unnecessary conflicts.
âAt least he only acts like this around me. He wouldnât do this with anyone else.â
Given that Taechangâs communication skills were abysmal, Ihan reasoned that he was unlikely to make such careless remarks in front of others.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
âThe guyâs basically like a vibrating massager in conversation.â
Taechang wasnât one to have meaningful interactions outside of this group.
âThough, he does have a girlfriend, right?â
And not just any girlfriendâa smart and beautiful one at that.
ââ¦Guess heâs not so pitiable after all.â
Ihan felt an inexplicable pang of envy. The happiness of others had never irritated him so much.
The Confrontation
âSeeing a temple hound acting like this is amusing.â
ââ¦â¦â
âActually, calling you hounds is too generous. Youâre nothing more than rats whoâd switch masters at a momentâs notice. Disgusting.â
ââ¦â¦â
âSilent treatment, huh.â
ââ¦I donât understand why youâre suddenly provoking me, young lion. I donât recall doing anything to earn your ire.â
ââ¦â¦â
âIf you have an issue with me, feel free to challenge me. Of course, only if the knight allows it.â
ââ¦One day, our blades will cross.â
âIs that so? Iâll look forward to it.â
ââ¦â¦â
Crack!
âCareful, or youâll break your teeth.â
Ihan wondered how things had reached this point.
Loen, usually calm and collected, was visibly furious, veins bulging on his forehead as he taunted Judea Pierre. Meanwhile, Judea remained unfazed, meeting his hostility with nonchalance.
Looking at the two of them, Ihan couldnât help but sigh.
âThis is a mess.â
The sight was a stark reminder of how ugly things could get between a broken couple.

To Summarize: Ihan Refused Loen's Proposal
The reason?
âWell, itâs simple. People arenât objects, Loen. Sheâs not a real slave or anything.â
âGiven her current situation, sheâs worse off than a slave.â
âSheâs an intern, isnât she?â
ââ¦What exactly is an intern?â
âItâs a position lower than an assistant. Sure, theyâre under me right now, but that doesnât mean I own them. Iâm supposed to use them well and then return them later.â
ââ¦Are you sure youâre treating them as people?â
âStop nitpicking. If you really want her, convince her yourself. I wonât stop you from trying.â
ââ¦â¦â
âIf you feel like stabbing someone, just say so. Iâll arrange a spar.â
ââ¦Tempting, but Iâll refrain. I suppose I need to cool off for a few days. Iâll be stepping away for a while.â
âTaking an absence openly, huh?â
Judea Pierre, or âRed,â as Loen disdainfully referred to her, temporarily escaped further trouble. Ihan clicked his tongue in annoyance.
Itâs all so complicatedâ¦
âThe old priest asked me to keep an eye on her. Taechang says sheâs dangerous. Loen wants to kill herâ¦.â
The situation gave Ihan a headache.
âWhatâs so special about her, anywayâ¦?â
He glanced over at Judea.
ââ¦â¦â
Even as the other inquisitors groaned under the pain of the Sacrificial Barrier and endured Damienâs relentless tirades, Judea quietly went about her assigned tasks. While the others followed orders out of submission, she appeared to comply simply because she had lost. There was no sense of willpower in her actions.
Watching her brought to mind an emotionless doll, making Ihan wonder if she even had feelings.
âA villainess and an inquisitor? It doesnât suit her.â
He remembered the moment she had aimed a gun at her own head without hesitation after being defeatedâa cold, mechanical reaction devoid of the will to live or any noble purpose.
âEven villainous acts require some emotion, donât they?â
Ihan understood the kinds of malice and ideals that typically drove people to villainy.
But Judea Pierre didnât exhibit either malice or ideals.
If he had to sum up his impression of her in one line:
ââ¦Sheâs an anomaly.â
Neither a villain nor a hero, she was simply out of place.
That was Ihanâs evaluation of her.
A Bizarre Presence
âWhat do you think of her?â
âHm, sheâs definitely a bit⦠unusual. Her energy feels different. At first, I thought it was just divine power, but now Iâm not so sure.â
âIs that so?â
âYes, sir!â
âHm⦠But hey, chick.â
âYes?â
ââ¦Why are you still here in the second semester?â
ââ¦â¦â
âWhy stay?â
âW-Well, I wanted to take your class again, Instructor!â
ââ¦â¦â
âUh, could you maybe say something nice?â
âDidnât think spellcasters were such an idle lot.â
Ihan poked Irene Windlerâs soft cheeks as she blushed in embarrassment.
He sighed.
There were plenty of other classes she could take to fulfill her credits, so why was she insisting on retaking his?
âI appreciate the sentiment, but this is getting too muchâ¦.â
Ihan could guess why this clingy âchickâ of a mage kept latching onto his swordsmanship class. It gave him a headache.
As much as he wanted romance in his life, he had no desire to get involved with someone like herâa character with so much troublesome baggage.
A transmigrator. A spellcaster. Young and immature. And most of allâ¦
â¦a spellcaster.
He had more than enough reasons to turn down her affections.
âWhat did I do to deserve thisâ¦?â
âYes?â
âNever mind. Go sign up for another class. Thereâs still time to adjust your schedule.â
âNo way! I want to stay in the Swordsmanship Department!â
âThe top student in the Magic Department?â
âC-Canât I be an honorary Swordsmanship cadet?â
ââ¦Do you think thatâs possible?â
ââ¦Hmph.â
Her shoulders slumped, and Irene pouted, looking dejected.
Seeing her like that, Ihan felt his resolve waver.
Even if it was just one semester, spending time together had inevitably built a sense of camaraderie.
Maybe he should just let her stay.
ââ¦Sheâs fragile, after all.â
Though healthier than before, her frail appearance tugged at his sympathies.
Just as he was about to relent, Irene handed him something.
âOh, right! This was from that creepy old guy. He asked me to give it to you.â
â??â
âI didnât want to, but he begged me to deliver it⦠Sorry.â
ââ¦â¦â
âUh, youâre okay with it, right? Hehe.â
âStop smiling.â
âOw!â
Even with a light tap, Irene went flying, but Ihan didnât concern himself. Her telekinetic abilities would keep her from hitting the ground.
More pressing was the letter in his hands.
âI knew I shouldâve gotten rid of him sooner.â
The letter bore a crest resembling rippling water. Despite being just stationery, it glimmered faintly with jewel dust, a symbol of extravagant wealth.
There was only one family in the kingdom capable of using gemstones as ink.
âOne more reason to steer clear of themâ¦.â
The Galahad Family.
Looking at the invitation from the current head of the ducal family, Ihan let out a deep, exhausted sigh.
