Chapter 8

As soon as Assistant Liu left, Luo Yichen immediately locked the door. When he turned around, he saw Qu Ling’er sitting on the sofa.

“When did you wake up?” Luo Yichen asked.

“While you were talking,” Qu Ling’er said softly, her fingers intertwined. She lowered her head slightly, not knowing what to do. “I’m sorry. Last night, I…”

Seeing how nervous she was, Luo Yichen quickly said, “It’s okay. What’s there to be sorry about? You slept on the sofa, not my… room!”

Qu Ling’er was speechless. If Assistant Liu had not come, she might not have woken up yet. When she opened her eyes, she realized she was sleeping at Luo Yichen’s house. She did not dare to make a sound until she heard Assistant Liu leave.

Luo Yichen looked at Qu Ling’er who in turn, looked uneasy and awkward. He felt helpless. Assistant Liu would not be gone for long. The chauffeur—Zhang—had probably already bought breakfast. After much debate, he said, “Hurry up and get inside my bedroom.”

“What?”

Luo Yichen playfully said, “Do you want to continue sitting there and meet my assistant?”

Hearing this, Qu Ling’er immediately stood up from the sofa and followed Luo Yichen into his bedroom. His bedroom was very spacious and tidy; it looked cozy.

Luo Yichen pointed at the bathroom. “This is the bathroom. You can leave after we leave.”

Qu Ling’er nodded meekly.

Luo Yichen noted her subservience and surmised that she must be the same at home too. For some reason, he was a little angry. “There’s a new towel and toothbrush in the drawer of the vanity. Help yourself.” He picked up the cell phone on the bedside table and turned to leave the bedroom.

He came out of the bedroom and unlocked the door. He was about to turn around and return to the living room when he heard a sound at the door again—Assistant Liu was back.

Assistant Liu opened the door and saw someone standing at the door. He was shocked again. “Yichen, why are you always standing at the door? Why are you waiting for me here?”

Luo Yichen: “…”

He glanced at Assistant Liu and said, “Don’t change your shoes. I’m ready. Let’s go now.”

Assistant Liu held up the breakfast in his hand in bafflement. “Didn’t you say you wanted to eat at home?”

Luo Yichen kept a straight face and said, “Time is tight. Let’s eat in the car.”

Assistant Liu: “…” So, was he messing with me just now?

Luo Yichen pushed Assistant Liu out of the door and closed it.

Assistant Liu looked at Luo Yichen suspiciously. “Yichen, are you hiding a woman in your house?”

“You’re the one who’s hiding a woman in your house!” Luo Yichen retorted guiltily. “Hurry up and leave. Don’t waste time.”

Assistant Liu: “…” Why was he so testy today?

Qu Ling’er came out of Luo Yichen’s bedroom after he left. She went to the sofa to look for her cell phone and realized that it was out of battery. She picked up her handbag but could not find a charger after searching for a long time. She had no choice but to return to Luo Yichen’s bedroom and use the charger by his bed.

While she was charging her cell phone, she did not stay idle—she cleaned the house. By the time she was done, her cell phone’s battery was 70% charged.

The weather was already hot—coupled with the stench of alcohol from yesterday—she really could not leave like that. She turned on her cell phone and found Luo Yichen’s number to send a text.

“Brother, can I use your bathroom?”

Two minutes later, Luo Yichen replied: “Sure.”

Qu Ling’er heaved a sigh of relief. She looked down at her dirty white dress—she had cream on it after eating cake last night—then, there was chili oil from supper. To top it all, it was all wrinkled from her sleeping in it last night. She simply could not bear to look at it!

Qu Ling’er braced herself and sent another message to Luo Yichen: “Um… Brother, can you lend me a shirt too? My clothes are too dirty…”

A minute later, Luo Yichen replied: “The walk-in closet is next to the bedroom. Pick whatever you want.”

When Qu Ling’er pushed open the door of the walk-in closet, her eyes widened in astonishment. His walk-in closet was extremely big—there were hundreds of clothes neatly hung inside—of all colors and styles. It was dazzling.

She found a long white T-shirt from the T-shirt section and brought it to the bathroom. After her shower, she cleaned up the bathroom. She also washed her dress and hung it aside. Then, she put on the T-shirt and dried her hair. Luo Yichen’s T-shirt was very big—she could wear it as a dress. After drying her hair, she went to the walk-in closet to get a thin belt and tied it around her waist—that looked so much better now.
