Chapter 26: Chapter 26 (Willow)

Reaper's Pet (forbidden love)Words: 9727

She climbed out of the window on the top floor and made her way to the rooftop, not even caring that if she fell from this height, she would be a goner.

Being alone on the island was a challenge, especially since she found out about her dad. Mainly due to Jack who tracked her down and brought her back everytime when she tried to get away and distance herself from everyone.

Darlia, Jack nor Ian wouldn't even explain how he ended up as a companion nor how he was kidnapped, saying she was better off not knowing. Plus, Jack had spent most of his time with Ian who was hurt after Willow kept chasing him away.

She knew why they didn't, losing a companion or reaper going rogue was not something talked about on the island from what Fahima said, but she still couldn't believe they hadn't told her. If the rogue hadn't said anything she would probably never have known, which made the anger boil underneath her skin, but it was slowly dying out knowing she eventually would forgive them. But understanding the reason why they didn't and understanding why they didn't make an exception was two different things.

She gazed upwards, watching as dark clouds rolled in, threatening rain. She hoped that up here Jack wouldn't look, as she technically hadn't left the house as she settled into a comfortable spot on a flat dormer window, enjoying the view.

Below, tiny blue specks moved around in the garden, catching her attention. She sighed, leaning back on her hands and closed her eyes. Her mind was a whirlwind of questions, like rabbits chased by a relentless hound. The first droplets of rain began to fall, causing her expression to contort slightly, but she remained in her spot. Instead, she let the rain wash away her anger, leaving her only with the questions.

She strained to recall her dad's face, the real image of him, not the ones she saw in the photo albums her mom had kept. All she could conjure up was his warm smile and the feeling of his loving hugs. She could hardly believe that her dad had made the same deal she herself had done. Willow tried to dig deep into her memories of the day of the car accident, but it remained elusive. The only image that surfaced was waking up in the hospital, her mom and grandmother crying by her side, her head pounding, and everything else shrouded in fuzziness.

Opening one eye, she looked up as the rain abruptly ceased to drizzle on her face. She found herself under the shelter of an umbrella, and Jack's concerned face greeted her.

"What are you doing out here? Trying to get sick?" Jack asked, settling down beside her while he held the umbrella above her head. A nervous chuckle escaped him. "If you wanted chicken soup and some love all you had to do is ask."

"I just needed time to think and didn't think you would care as I'm still at the house." she mumbled, brushing a lock of wet hair away from her face. Her gaze remained fixed on the blue dots in the garden, darting around to avoid the rain with a blank expression.

Jack smiled softly, his own drenched hair sticking to his face as he sat outside the umbrella's protection.

"How many times do I have to say it? I can find you anywhere and will always care as you're mine," Sighing, Willow inched closer to get him under the umbrella, just because he couldn't get sick and she technically was mad at him, was wet socks no joke. "Are you ready to talk?" He asked gently.

Willow nodded briefly, turning her bleak stare toward Jack. Her voice trembled as she voiced the question that had been gnawing at her. "Why didn't you tell me?"

"Because in the eyes of not only your society is he gone, if a rogue gets a hold of a companion and we haven't gotten them back before 24 hours we will deem them gone, as rouges usually kill them." Jack mumbled, pulling his legs up and wrapping his arm around them. He rested his head on his knees "I thought by sharing this information it would only hurt you more."

But Evelyn had made it sound like her dad was alive, was that a trick?

Silence settled between them for a few minutes as they both watched the activity in the garden below. Finally, Willow broke the silence, her voice cracking as she spoke. "It was the car accident, wasn't it?"

"Yeah, Dorothy came to reap you as your dad was supposed to survive. But instead she made the deal with Malte for your life." Jack watched her from the corner of his eye, expecting a strong reaction. However, Willow was so drained at this point that she simply stared blankly at the scenery below. "Dorothy was an old reaper and had an arrangement with Darlia about living outside of reapers island with your dad which was an extremely rare thing to be allowed, and which clearly was a mistake. But I didn't lie, I never met Malte, he has never been on reaper island while I have from my knowledge. I don't even think the others that may have met him would realize Malte was your dad other than the reapers. From what I remember Dorothy rarely stepped foot onto Reaper Island due to some disagreements with Darlia on how those with companions were supposed to stay in reaper island. Why Darlia let her live outside the island." He sighed and scratched his neck.

Willow rested her head on her knees, wondering why death seemed to follow her family like a shadow.

"When did he really die?"

"9 years ago, Dorothy and Malte stumbled into a pair of rogues on a job like we did with Evelyn." Two years, two whole years her father had been alive without her family's knowledge. Had he missed them? Had he asked Death to let him see them as Willow had done? She wondered with knitted brows. Would she have gotten a chance to meet him if Dorothy had just accepted to live on the island? Jack's voice turned low with anger as he continued, "Rogues for many different reasons want to get their hands on companions, and these two saw their chance to do so, as Evelyn did with you." His fingers clenched around the handle of the umbrella.

"Was Evelyn one of the ones who took my dad?" She turned her attention to Jack, and he shook his head.

"No, Evelyn left over eight ago for reasons I think only she and Marek know. But don't ask him, you will not get an answer and only upset him." She raised a brow by his words. "Evelyn was the reaper who got Marek turned, so they were close. I don't know but I think Marek would have left with her if it wasn't for the fact his companion at the time was sick." he added, his brow furrowing wonderingly as he stared out into the rain.

Contemplating this, Willow twisted a lock of hair around her finger and decided to ask about something else that had been on her mind.

"I know Ian only saved me because Dorothy who was my family's reaper was needed at that time, but why was it not him that then also was sent to pick up my brother, why you?" she asked. Jack's shoulders tensed, and his knuckles turned white from his grip on the umbrella.

"Because I also was the one who reaped your grandparents." he mumbled, still gazing out at the scenery below. Willow's eyes widened, and her mouth dropped slightly as the words sunk in.

"Oh...I guess that makes sense..." she mumbled, wondering why he never had said anything or she never had guessed that herself.

"I know I have not told you everything you might wanna know, but Willow what I decide not to tell you is for your sake," he turned his attention to her, his expression serious.

"I just, I just don't like the fact you keep stuff from me, but I guess I understand your reasoning. Knowing my dad did the same as I did when we first met? I seriously don't think I would have been able to handle that if I was told right away." She admitted with sigh. The rain slowly stopped, as they sat there in silence. "By the way, I know about Mortífera, but what is Inferos?"

"Guess you yet to pick up the chronicle of Earth. Inferos is the name of the police for Inferno, Lucifer's under-government of Impería, the government of all supernaturals on Earth, except a few species like angels, demons and Nephilim's if not in Inferno or simply not found. Almost all supernaturals is part of Impería which is run by members from certain different species like Layla Crowford, one of the first children of Lilith, mother of witches, Lucifer in it as well and Ian is too." Willow looked at him with raised brows, it was hard to imagine that all supernaturals followed one government and from the sound of it somehow made it work.

"What is inferno for? Why was that made?"

"Inferno is Lucifer's government for those who follow him on Earth, created after the battle of Chería. Lucifer is the king, but it is usually a fallen named Sebastian that governs the inferno with the help of leaders representing certain species who are voted in every 6 years by their fellow species members in inferno. Personally, if I had been any other supernatural being I would have signed up to be under Inferno, the perks are great. Being under Lucifer's protection has many perks that outweighs what he expects in return, why most supernaturals on Earth are in Inferno."

She nodded, deep in thought, surprised over how much she still had to learn.

"How is Ian?" She asked nervously, fully aware that a reaper blade could harm reapers, even if it couldn't kill them. Jack's mouth twisted slightly, but he maintained a calm expression.

"He's gonna be fine, he just needs to rest. And he told me to say sorry for his part of keeping it a secret about your dad."

Willow nodded slowly, having yet to fully come to terms there was things she didn't know, but she understood why she hadn't been told.

"Thank you for telling me about my dad." she said softly, allowing herself to lean against him. She rested her head against his shoulder and gazed out at the rainbow appearing in the sky.
