Mizuki gawked around him with wide eyes. Yarisha wasn't what he expected at all. Whenever Eren described it he would imagine a somber, terrifying and demonic place. He figured that because Eren's memories with the place were so horrifying that he had made this terrible image of Yarisha in his head.
But he wasn't completely right.
Yarisha had a beautiful landscape. The trees were standing tall under the bright light of the sun and the leaves were a beautiful coral colour and when Mizuki got a closer look he realized that they were Erythrina trees.
But the deeper they went in, Mizuki started seeing the truth in Eren's words. The women he walked by were always walking with their heads down. When Mizuki's eyes crossed with another pair of eyes that belonged to a young girl she had looked panicked, fearful before she scurried off.
"Come on, we should find where the fight is being held." Emilio said in a hushed tone to Mizuki and he nodded.
As they continued to walk they started listening in on conversations in hope that someone would mention the battle between the princes of the country.
"Mervin!" A young boy called out as he ran to who Mizuki presumed was his older brother.
"Can I please come watch the fight with you?" The words that left his mouth stopped both Mizuki and Emilio in their tracks.
"You know mom said she doesn't want you to see it." The older boy said, making the younger one pout.
"But please! I need to see this." He begged, making Mervin sigh in defeat.
"Fine, come on." He motioned for him to follow him and when they started walking Mizuki and Emilio also discreetly followed them all while continuing to listen to their conversation.
"Who do you think will win?" The little boy asked.
"Prince Aslan, duh." Mervin answered, causing a deep frown to appear on Mizuki's face.
"Why?"
"We all know Prince Aslan is so much stronger than Prince Eren. I heard that every time they would spare Prince Aslan would easily win. I even heard that once Prince Aslan had badly injured Prince Eren while they were training with their father." Mervin explained.
Mizuki's stomach churned with anxiety the more the boy talked. What if he was right? What if Aslan actually wins this? What if.. what if he kills Eren?
No!
"But Prince Eren is nice." The younger boy mumbled, brining Mizuki out of his thoughts.
"What do you mean, Benji?" Mervin asked.
"One time, I was playing tag with Mika and then he pushed me instead of touching my shoulder and I fell! He got scared because he thought you were going to come and yell at him and he ran away even if I was bleeding from the knee.
Prince Eren saw me and he helped me get the blood off of me and he even smiled at me! He never smiles. I don't think he's as bad as people say he is. Sometimes...sometimes I think people are really mean to him just because Prince Aslan tells them to and that's why I don't like Prince Aslan and I want Prince Eren to win!" He whispered the last words but Mizuki managed to catch them and he felt a small smile tilt at his lips.
"Benji!" Mervin exclaimed. "You know you're not allowed to say stuff like this."
"But it's so unfair! Why are people allowed to be mean to Prince Eren even when he's a prince but they say one bad thing about Prince Aslan they get in trouble." Benji demanded with disapproval and Mervin sighed in annoyance.
"Because that's just the way things are and you can't do anything to change it. Now if you want to keep your life shut your mouth and don't ever say something like that again." Mervin scolded, making Benji scowl and look down at his feet as they continued to walk in silence.
Emilio turned to face Mizuki, both holding a shocked face and he mouthed 'wow' making Mizuki nod with a sigh.
Looking at Benji causes Mizuki's heart to tug painfully. He was so young, around twelve maybe, and to think that he had to grow in such a fucked up place was just outrageous. He and all the other innocent kids shouldn't be continued to be taught such stupid rules.
Mizuki knew that every bad person in Yarisha was shaped to be the way they were. They were brainwashed in such a tremendous way that they genuinely thought that it was right.
Mizuki wanted to save Benji and all the other people who still had their innocence before it was soiled beyond repair.
They finally started hearing loud chatter and Mizuki knew they were close. His eyes widened at the sight of so many people that had gathered to watch the fight and he gulped. How was he supposed to find Eren in such a large crown?
"Let's split up and meet by this tree if you don't find him." Emilio said pointing to the tallest tree around them and Mizuki nodded before they separated paths.
Mizuki started walking around, looking for the face he was longing so badly to see for the past few weeks but he couldn't seem to find him anywhere.
He walked a bit away from the crowd and rounded a corner that led to an alley between two buildings and when he saw a mop of curly brown hair his eyes widened. He walked closer to him and then he grabbed his wrist and pulled him in the alley.
"What the-" Eren stopped talking when Mizuki pulled down his hood and his eyes widened in disbelief.
"M-Mizuki?" Eren whimpered as he raised a shaky hand and cupped Mizuki's cheek.
"Hi, love." Mizuki smiled at him, his lips wobbling as he pulled Eren completely to him and pressed them against Eren's in a deep, searing kiss.
Eren closed his eyes, a tear leaking down the side of his face as he tightly wrapped his arms around Mizuki's neck and pulled him as close as he could.
"Fuck, missed you so much." Mizuki mumbled pulling away from the kiss for a second before plunging back in.
Eren whined lowly when Mizuki pushed him against the wall and took his bottom lip in between his teeth. He pressed his front against Eren's causing them both to grunt at the contact and Eren tangled his fingers in Mizuki's long strands of hair while Mizuki kept his hands firmly holding Eren's face.
"Wait, stop." Eren gasped suddenly when he remembered where exactly he was and Mizuki immediately pulled his lips away from his, opting to bury his face in Eren's neck instead to press a kiss there before he fully backed away.
"How did you get here?" Eren asked as his thoughts finally started sorting themselves from the jumbled mess they were a few seconds ago.
"I...I walked across the border." Mizuki admitted after a few moments of hesitation.
"No, shit you did." Eren exclaimed with a hushed tone. "But how on earth did you manage to do it?"
"Emilio and I came when I heard of your fight. I couldn't let you go through with it without at least seeing you first." Mizuki said.
"Mizuki." Eren groaned. "Do you know how dangerous and risky what you did is? Right after we made a peace treaty too."
"I know." Mizuki muttered. "But I couldn't just stay there knowing you were fighting a battle to the death."
As angry Eren was, he couldn't deny the way his heart raced at the thought of Mizuki taking such a big risk just to see him.
"What if you were caught?" Eren whispered, more softly. "You could have been killed."
"But I didn't and now I'm here, right?" Mizuki said with a small smile and Eren shook his head incredulously.
"Eren." Mizuki said after a moment.
"Is there any way that you can avoid doing this? Maybe ask someone to take the fight for you?" He asked and Eren frowned at him.
"Why would you say that?" Eren asked.
Prince Aslan is so much stronger than Prince Eren. I heard that every time they would spare Prince Aslan would easily win. I even heard that once Prince Aslan had badly injured Prince Eren while they were training with their father
"I don't want you to get hurt, sweetheart." Mizuki said as the words rang through his head. "I don't want to lose you."
"You think I'm going to lose?" Eren asked, hurt lacing his words and Mizuki's eyes widened.
"No-that's not what I'm saying." He tried to explain but Eren took a step away from him.
"Even you." He laughed bitterly. "Everyone I can think of has been telling me I'm going to lose. They all seem to think I'm just as weak as my dad and Aslan say. They all told me to give up if I don't want to die. And to think that you, the person who was supposed to believe in me, also thinks I'm going to lose."
"Eren, baby, you know I don't think that." Mizuki said.
"I'm going to fight this myself, Mizuki. And I'm going to win." Eren declared.
Mizuki frowned and he moved to take a step closer to Eren and thankfully he didn't move away but before Mizuki could touch him and apologize for the way his words came out another voice rang out around them.
"Eren?"
Mizuki took a step back and turned around to see a tall man with blond hair and green eyes peering at them curiously before his gaze shifted and fucking softened when they settled on Eren.
"You okay?" He asked and Eren nodded.
"Come on, it's time. We gotta go." He said, giving Mizuki a side glance.
"I have to go. Don't go anywhere else and don't do anything stupid." Eren whispered to Mizuki sternly and the man could only nod grimly and watch Eren and the man walk away.
Who the fuck was that and why the fuck was he looking at Eren like that?
