Chapter 14 of 50

Motorcycle

I decided that for Jasper's bike I would use the Harley-Davidson that they used in the movies, because I think it looks cooler.

The motorcycle is actually a gift from Edward in Eclipse, but I'm just going to say that Jasper already had it for the sake of this book.

I still don't own twilight... so sad.

Me and Jasper walked out the front door. I was headed for my truck that was parked outside their garage.

"So what stupid and reckless thing are we going to do? I doubt that we are going to school, because that would be the responsible answer." He said.

"I don't know yet. I think we drive around, and then we'll know it when we see it."

"What about a motorcycle?" Jasper suggested. I stopped walking to my truck and turned to look at him. I wasn't expecting to be that reckless on our first.. whatever we were doing.

"You have a motorcycle?" I questioned. A large grin appeared on his face, that for a moment, reminded me of Emmett. He bolted away and I jumped slightly. I wasn't used to the whole vampire super speed thing yet.

He walked out of the garage carefully pushing a silver bike out the door. He put down the kickstand and rushed back inside. I observed his bike. It was new and expensive looking like the Cullens' other vehicles. It looked fast. Jasper came back out and tossed me a black helmet, which hit me in the stomach and fell in the dirt.

"I'm sorry. I forgot you were human for a second. I didn't hurt you did I?" He asked, while failing to stifle a chuckle.

"No, you didn't." I said rolling my eyes. He and Emmett had always found my being a klutz funny, and I wasn't exactly happy about that.

"Good. So do you want me to teach you how to ride?" He asked.

"Uh.. yeah." I said nervously. I had never been on a motorcycle before.

Jasper sat atop the bike and moved the kickstand off the ground. He pushed a button, and the engine roared to life. He walked it over to me, and waited. I looked at him in confusion.

"Get on." He said with a grin.

"Right now?" I asked, panicking slightly. A wave of calm and confidence washed over me, and I knew it was Jasper's doing.

"Yeah, right now." He said shaking his head slightly.

I slowly climbed onto the motorcycle, and nearly fell over in the process. Jasper explained all of the levers and buttons and what they did. It took a while but I eventually felt like I understood.

"Okay. Where's your brake?" He asked. I gripped the lever near my right hand.

"Good, where's your clutch?"

I raised one finger off the clutch, but kept my other fingers pulling it tightly. We did this for a while, he asked where a part was and I pointed to it.

"You know how to turn?" He questioned.

"Yes Jasper, I get it. I know how to steer. Can I start now?" I asked exasperatedly.

"Yeah, sure." He chuckled. "Just ease off the clutch slowly." He instructed.

"Bella, don't do this." Edward's voice rang in my ear. I jumped and the motorcycle jolted forward. I hit the breaks hard and my entire body jerked.

"Easy there." Jasper said. "Do we have to go over it all again?" He questioned, with a smirk on his face.

"I heard him Jasper." I whispered.

"Who?" He asked, his expression turning serious.

"Edward."

"He's not here Bella."

"I know that, but I heard him." I said seriously.

"What'd he say?" Jasper asked curiously.

"He told me not to ride." I said, I could feel my face burning. I knew that my face must be flushing red. The blood rushing to my head must have bothered Jasper surely, but I didn't ask him how his thirst was like he requested. He seemed completely in control to me anyway.

"Well you tell my dear brother that you can do whatever the hell you want." Jasper said with a shrug. I didn't answer him. I was far too concerned to joke around about this.

"Why would that happen Jasper? It's so.. vivid." I mumbled.

"Wanna hear my theory?" He asked. I nodded my head quickly. I needed literally any explanation.

"One word; ghosts." He said confidently. "It's genius really, think about it."

"Jasper, I'm being serious." I grumbled.

"So am I! I'm telling you.. we are dead right, so what if we are also ghosts? Like our soul splits into a vampire and a ghost.. or something." He was trying to keep his serious facade in place, but it slipped and he started laughing at his own joke.

"You are no help."

"I know." He chuckled. "But I do have another theory."

"If you say that Edward is a wizard or something I'm going to scream." I said trying not to smile.

"That's theory number three, and Carlisle's the wizard not Edward." Jasper said plainly. "Theory number two, is that you are guilty about something, and your conscience is taking form as Edward."

"Like Jiminy Cricket?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Exactly." He smirked.

I thought about it for a minute. As ridiculous as it sounded, the more I thought about it the more it made sense. I had made Edward a promise not to do anything reckless, but I was actually looking for danger. I wasn't necessarily guilty, but I didn't like breaking any promises I made him. I didn't want to defy him.

"Thanks Jasper, I think you are actually kind of right." I shrugged.

"See, I'm not completely useless." His lips turned upwards slightly, and he tapped the side of his head.

"Are you ready to try again?" He asked.

"I made Edward a promise that I wouldn't do anything reckless." I sighed.

"I won't let you get hurt Bella. It's not quite as reckless as it sounds. You'll be perfectly safe." Jasper promised. I nodded hesitantly, and focused on the motorcycle again. Jasper turned around and cupped his hands over his mouth.

"Edward go away! You're distractin' Bella!" He yelled into the forest.

"Don't patronize me."

"What are ya talkin' about? I'd neva' even dream of it ma'am." He drawled. I rolled my eyes, and experimentally released the clutch.

"Bella, stop this. Please." Edward whispered to me. I ignored his voice. The motorcycle rolled a few feet forward.

"There you go, that's how you do it." Jasper encouraged. "Ride it around the yard. See how it feels. Just don't hurt her." Jasper said. I chuckled at him calling his motorcycle a 'her'.

I gave it some gas, and I rode straight across the front lawn. Edward's voice kept ringing in my ear, I tried to stay focused but it was distracting.

"You promised me you wouldn't do anything reckless." Edward said sounding desperate. I lost focus, and I was suddenly heading straight for the trees. I panicked and wasn't able to move.

The front tire hit a rock and the bike started to tip. I closed my eyes as I anticipated the pain of hitting the tree I was barreling towards. The pain never came, but there was a loud crunch. I opened my eyes nervously, and found that I was sitting unharmed on the ground. Jasper must have saved me last second. Jasper was kneeling next to me, a grimace on his face.

"I'm afraid to look." He whispered. I glanced in the direction of the bike and groaned. I owed Jasper a new bike. The front was crushed, I didn't know exactly how hard it would be to fix, but it would definitely need fixing.

"I'm so sorry Jasper."

"She didn't make it, did she?" He asked with a frown.

"I don't really know how bad the damage is, but the front is dented. I'll pay for it." I promised in a whisper. I felt horrible. I drive Jasper's motorcycle once and I crash it.

"No no, it's fine. I'll try to fix it, or I'll just have Rose fix it when I see her next. She'll probably like the project." He sighed. He stood up straight and went to retrieve his bike.

"At least Esme wasn't here to see. She already doesn't like my bike. She's always calling it a deathtrap on wheels, even though I'm practically indestructible. It's the small victories, I guess." He sighed.

"I really am sorry Jasper. I could have my friend Jacob look at it." I offered. I wanted to make this right.

"That is probably not a great idea." Jasper chuckled halfheartedly.

"If I ask him I'm sure he'll help."

"Not when he finds out who the owner is. I did hit one of them in that meadow." Jasper said while carrying the bike into the garage.

"He doesn't have to know who owns it. He'll fix it." I said. I knew Jake would help if I asked him to.

"Okay, you can ask the dog if he can fix my bike. It better not smell like him once he's finished, or I'll have to sell it anyway." He said, smirking slightly.

"He's not that bad." I said shaking my head. He just shrugged his shoulders.

"He's just a vampire's mortal enemy, no big deal."
