"Your truck is so slow." Jasper grumbled while looking out the window. His hair was blowing in the wind coming from his window.
"Why do you all hate my truck so much?" I asked. Edward, Emmett and now Jasper had all complained about it. It was a good truck and I didn't understand how they failed to see that.
"Like I said, it's slow. It's probably older than I am, and that's sayin' somethin'." He shrugged.
"Would you stop? My truck is fine!" I said raising my voice. Jasper snickered but didn't say anything more. I rolled my eyes. Maybe I liked quiet, polite Jasper better. This Jasper certainly found great amusement in messing with me.
"Oh come on, don't be annoyed with me." Jasper chuckled. I didn't like that he could feel my emotions. This is probably how people feel when Edward reads their mind.
"Stop picking on my truck." I demanded.
"Okay, okay. I'm sorry." He snickered. The car went silent, but Jasper's smirk didn't leave his face. We drove along for a while.
"Bella pullover, I can't go any further." Jasper said once we were getting closer to La Push.
I pulled my truck to the side of the road. If Jasper couldn't go any further than this, then how were we going to get the bike fixed.
"You've got to call Jacob, and hopefully I can convince him to escort me over their land. I'm almost certain that the treaty allows that." He answered my unasked question, but he didn't sound all that convinced. I nodded my head and didn't question it. I guess we would find out.
I pulled my phone out of my pocket and dialed Jake's number. He agreed to meet me at the border. I decided not to mention Jasper yet, just incase. Jacob was confused but didn't argue.
We waited for a while, until Jacob's Rabbit pulled up. I got out to greet him. He had a wide smile on his face and I couldn't help but return it. It was the kind of smile that could light up a whole room.
"Hey Bella! What's up?" Jake grinned. I saw him glance behind me and his smile immediately fell into a frown.
"Jake-" I began to say but he cut me off.
"What's he doing here!" He spat.
"Hello to you too pup." Jasper smiled with his teeth and stepped out of my truck. It occured to me that he was showing off his teeth; his fangs. He was trying to intimidate Jake.
"You can't be here!" Jacob snarled.
"I'm on my side." Jasper shrugged. "You could use some manners kid." He chuckled and took another step towards me. Jacob was shooting daggers at him.
"Bella? Why is he here?" Jake asked through gritted teeth.
"We need your help, so if you could tolerate eachother for just a few hours-"
"He almost killed Paul, Bella!" Jacob yelled.
"Oh trust me, if I wanted to kill Paul, he would already be dead." Jasper smirked. I sent him a glare, but he just shrugged. Jacob seemed to be trembling and his face was twisting in anger.
"Alright mutt, I was going to try not to do this to you, but you've left me really no choice." Jasper said and tried to hide his smile. Jacob stopped trembling and his eyes seemed to be rolling back in his head. He fell to the ground and didn't move.
"Jasper what-" I screamed, but again was cut off.
"He's just sleeping, don't worry Bella. He'll wake up in a few minutes and be a lot happier. He just needs a little nap. I didn't want my head torn off so this was the only option." Jasper chuckled.
"Jasper, you can't just... you can't do whatever that was, to people." I said seriously.
"He's just a dog, not a person." Jasper snickered. "I've forgotten how fun that is to do. I haven't been able to do it for a long time."
"Jasper, what if he hit his head?" I asked.
"Oh, he certainly did. I smelled the blood as soon as it happened.. it was repulsive. Not even my insane thirst can force me to drink mutt blood." He chuckled.
"Jasper! We need to help him! He could have a concussion or worse!" I said, beginning to panic.
"He's fine. They heal quickly, or at least that's what Carlisle's told me." He shrugged. He didn't seem to be worried about this at all, he clearly found all of it funny.
I kneeled down next to Jacob and tried to get him to wake up. Jake was quietly groaning and his eyelashes would flutter on occasion. Jasper was enjoying this way too much.
"Bella.." Jake groaned and tried to get up from off the ground. I put a hand on his shoulder, I didn't want him to injure himself.
"Good morning sunshine." Jasper chuckled.
"Uh.. shit, it wasn't a dream." Jake growled.
"Oh pup, you dream about me. How sweet." Jasper snickered. I rolled my eyes at him, but all it seemed to do was amuse him more.
"What happened?" Jake asked groggily.
"Jasper used his-"
"You passed out. Are you feeling alright?" Jasper asked, cutting me off. I turned to him for an explanation of why he lied, but he winked at me and continued his story. I felt my face burning, with embarrassment or anger, I didn't know.
"Maybe we should take you home." Jasper suggested.
"No, I'm fine! Leave me alone leech! What are you doing here anyway?" Jake asked as he stood.
"I just wanted to chat." Jasper said like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"What could you possibly want to talk about?" Jacob snapped.
"Would you like to fix up a motorcycle?"
"What? Why?"
"Again dog, would you like to fix up a motorcycle. It's broken." Jasper stated. Jacob seemed to be thinking it over. "I don't think it needs many new parts, but I'll pay for what it does need." Jasper added.
"What's in it for me?" Jacob said skeptically.
"Nothing." Jasper shrugged.
"Then why the hell would I help you?" He yelled and rolled his eyes.
"Fine, you can er.. ride it... sometimes." Jasper mumbled. Jacob looked unimpressed.
"Please Jacob. He's teaching me to ride, and we need the bike to work." I pleaded. Jacob's face softened. He was quiet for a while, but eventually sighed in defeat.
"Fine, but don't expect much. My priority right now is to the pack. That won't change because the bloodsucker gave you a bike." He stated.
"Hey hey, woah woah woah, I did not give her the bike - no offence Bella. The bike is mine, and she'll always be mine." Jasper said holding up his hands. Jake smiled ever so slightly.
"Sorry, I didn't realize you had that kind of relationship with your bike. My bad." Jake chuckled.
"Don't you forget it." Jasper grinned. He flashed to the back of my truck and came back carrying the bike on his shoulders, like it weighed no more than a feather. He set the bike at Jake's feet.
"So? Is she fixable?" Jasper asked. Jake was practically drooling over the sleek bike.
"Oh yeah. She's fixable alright... I can still ride it once I'm finished, right?" He asked and moved his hand over the surface of the bike. Jasper nodded, not looking all that happy about the arrangement although.
"So does she have a name?" Jacob smirked, obviously making fun of Jasper's strange attachment to the vehicle.
"Eleanor." Jasper stated plainly. Me and Jake burst into laughing fits. Jasper just shrugged his shoulders. "Hey, that's my mother's name you assholes." He chuckled.
"That makes it so much worse!" Jake laughed. I couldn't stop my laughter either.
Once we had finally stopped laughing we came to an agreement. Jacob would begin fixing it tomorrow morning, me and Jasper were allowed to come help. He confirmed that as long as he escorted Jasper on their land that there wouldn't be a problem. Neither one of them would admit it, but they were actually enjoying each other's company.
Jasper helped Jake get the bike to somehow fit in his Rabbit, and then he watched Jake drive away. He smirked slightly and walked back over to my truck. We began driving home.
"So, was it as bad as you thought it would be?" I asked.
"Mmm.. not too bad." Jasper shrugged. "Jacob is... tolerable. I mean, as far as werewolves go, he isn't all that bad. Except for his odor. That's just plain awful."
I smiled and continued to drive back into Forks. I finally felt some sense of happiness. I wasn't completely okay, but I was getting better. I was finally living again.
