Chapter 27 of 50

Leaving

○●○ Leaving ○●○

I woke to the sound of morning birds. I sat up while rubbing my eyes. Blinking a few times I looked around at my surroundings. For a moment I didn't realize where I was, but everything quickly came back to me. None of it felt real, it all felt like a bad dream. (Well, everything except our kiss last night, that was remarkably good.)

I got up out of bed. There was a small stack of clothes on the end of the bed. It must have been Alice's doing. I put them on, and picked up Jasper's phone. It was probably time I called Charlie. I inhaled a breath in preparation and dialed his number.

"Hello?" His voice picked up.

"Hi dad, it's Bella." I said softly.

"Thank god, Bells. Why didn't you tell me you were leaving? You scared me." He said with concern. I felt guiltier now. I never meant to scare him, but what was I supposed to do? Just let Edward die?

"I'm sorry. It was sort of a spur-of-the-moment decision. I am an adult... legally." I mumbled.

He exhaled a drawn out breath. "Are you okay?" He asked, his voice calming down a little bit.

"Yeah dad, I'm fine. I'm sorry I didn't call you sooner, I've been busy."

"It's okay." He answered.

"I'll be home either tonight or tomorrow morning."

"Okay, drive safe."

"I will." I promised.

"Could you tell me the next time you go of like this? I don't know if I can get used to you disappearing." He sighed.

"I will dad, I promise. I'm sorry." I apologized.

"So is everything going all right with his parents?" Charlie asked.

"Yeah, they're super nice."

"Are... uh, the rest of them nice?" He questioned. I knew he was trying to get me to talk about Edward. He wanted to know how I was dealing with him.

"Edward isn't here actually, but everyone else has been very inviting." I lied.

"Good, that's good."

"I'll tell you more when I get back, I love you."

"Okay. Love you too." He responded.

"Bye."

"Bye Bells."

The phone clicked off and I slipped it into my pocket. I stood and made my way into the small bathroom attached to the room. I quickly brushed through my hair and made my way down to the main floor.

I looked around a bit, but I couldn't find anyone. I came into the kitchen and Jasper was standing over the stove cooking what smelled like bacon. He turned and smiled at me. I didn't think it possible for a vampire to look so exhausted.

"Good morning beautiful." He greeted.

"Morning." I replied. I stood next to him, leaning my head on his shoulder.

"When did you have time to buy food?" I asked, looking down at the sizzling bacon.

"Esme is magical." He chuckled.

We stood in silence for a while.

"How did you sleep?" He asked softly.

"Good. How did things go last night?"

He shrugged. "There was a lot of yelling. I'm surprised we didn't wake you up."

"I'm sorry." I muttered.

"Don't be. I was perfectly aware of what I was getting myself into." He rubbed the nape of his neck.

"I don't think I'm worth all this trouble." I mumbled.

"Of course you are. You're worth every second." He promised. He kissed my cheek and a warm feeling spread across my body. Jasper's gift was quickly becoming one of my favorite things. You couldn't deny his love when you could feel it for yourself.

He plated the bacon and added some toast. I sat and ate it, and he sat next to me. The food was surprisingly well made for someone who didn't eat.

"Where did the others go?" I queried.

"They went out for a hunt."

"Oh, don't you need to go?" I asked. I was guessing by the shade of his eyes that he was hungry.

"I'm fine, promise."

"You can go Jasper, I'll be fine." I assured him. I didn't want him to be uncomfortable.

She shook his head, "No. Really, I'm fine." He sat up straight and looked at me. His lips curled into a small frown. "I really don't want to leave you."

"It will only be for a minute."

He sighed quietly and looked down at his lap. "I have to go back to Texas, and warn Maria of the upcoming Volturi attack. I can't leave her clueless. I'd never forgive myself."

"What? Why? She's never done anything for you. She's hurt you." I blurted. I grabbed his hand in mine, as if that would keep him here.

"If I don't and she survives, then she'll come after me. Not only that, but she'll come after the things I love; the people. I can't let it come to that." He said, his eyebrows furrowing.

I inhaled slowly and nodded my head in acceptance, "Okay, but I'm coming with you."

He looked up at me with obsidian eyes, "Darling, I can't put you in that much danger. Her newborns are rabid. They will not be able to control themselves when they smell you. I wouldn't be able to fight them all at once. And besides, Maria doesn't trust outsiders. I have to go alone."

I tried to stop myself from tearing up. We had just gotten back, and now he had to leave again. He told me that he would never leave my side, and while I knew that was a ridiculous promise, I was still disappointed.

"I'm sorry. I promise it won't be for long. Two weeks at most." He sighed.

I nodded my head and took a deep breath. "What if you get hurt?" I asked below a whisper. The thought of losing Jasper made my heart ache.

"I won't. I'll be as careful as I know how." He promised. "We can go buy you a phone before I leave. We'll talk every day."

I would normally argue with him buying me things, but this time I didn't. I knew already that those phone calls would be the only things keeping me sane while he was gone.

"I'll miss you." I sniffled.

He wrapped his arms around me in a tight embrace. The room went quiet as I was enveloped in his loving emotions. The hug went on for a long time.

Jasper suddenly broke the silence. "We could finish what we started last night." He suggested quietly.

"But, what about everyone else?" I asked. My heart had started pounding in my chest.

"They won't be back for a while." He whispered. "Would you want to?"

"Yes." I responded hastily. He smiled wider and I couldn't stop myself. I put my hand on the back of his neck and kissed him deeply.

He kissed me back quickly. This kiss was quickly becoming as intense as the one last night. For a moment I wondered how he was able to control himself, but I let that thought dissipate. I trusted him. He wouldn't do this if he wasn't in control. It was incredible how good his control had gotten.

I don't know how or when, but we had ended up in the living room, sprawled on the couch. I had been lost in the moment, so I hadn't noticed moving.

"I love you." I breathed out between kisses.

"Love you too." He responded quickly and breathily. He wasted no time in capturing my lips again.

The moment was a mess of tangled limbs, hair pulling, rough kisses, and quiet moans of pleasure. I began unbuttoning Jasper's shirt. He didn't stop me this time. I ran my hands up and down his chest. His hands slipped up my shirt and rested on the curve of my torso. It wouldn't be long before this make-out session turned into something more passionate. Saying that I was excited would be a grand understatement.

A large growl snapped us both from our lustful states. I looked around for the source, but nothing was registering in my brain. Out of nowhere there was a large crashing sound, like rock hitting rock. Jasper went flying across the room, hitting a window shattering it completely.

I scrambled to my feet in shock. I looked up and Edward was standing only a few feet away. His eyes were locked on Jasper and he had a murderous expression on his face. I was paralyzed. I had no idea what to do. All I knew was that this was going to end terribly.

Hey guys! I'm sorry that it took me so long to post this, and it's a short chapter at that. I had to take my finals so I didn't have much time to write, but thankfully I did really well on them and I'll have more free time now.
