Chapter 3 of 50

Post Office

I still don't own twilight or it's charecters. I'm just borrowing them. They belong to Stephanie Meyers respectively.

○●○ Post Office ○●○

I shuffled through our mail once more. I did this every morning.

I got up, checked the mailbox, got ready, checked the mailbox, went to school, checked the mailbox, made dinner, checked the mailbox, and went to bed. It had been my schedule for more than a week.

Charlie was suspicious, but he didn't ask questions. I had overheard him talking to Renee over the phone, telling her that I was finally somewhat back to normal. He was happy as long as I was happy, even if he didn't understand my strange behavior.

I smiled widely as I spotted what I had been looking for all week. That same yellowish envelope with my name neatly printed in Jasper's handwriting. I ran up to my room, I couldn't wait any longer. I had to know if they were coming home.

Dearest Isabella,

I am so glad to hear that you forgive me. I know I don't deserve your kindness. None of us do. You are an amazing woman, and I am so sorry you've been dragged into this mess.

I assure you Bella, Edward does indeed love you. He said those horrible things in an attempt to help you forget about us. He thought if maybe you resented him you'd have a better chance at happiness.

While I would love to come back to Forks, I'm afraid no one would listen to me. I'm on your side, Isabella. While I understand why Edward left, I do not agree with him. We never should have left in the first place. You are part of this family, and we had no right to abandon you.

If you would like to continue to write me, I would be more than happy to hear from you.

Yours truly,

Jasper Hale

A few tears fell down my cheeks, as I read over his letter. I was upset that they wouldn't be coming back, but relieved that they hadn't quite abandoned me. Well at least not all of them.

I quickly scrambled over to my desk and began writing my response. I was too impatient to wait, and the sooner I sent the letter the faster Jasper would send one back.

Dear Jasper,

I would love to continue to write to you. You have no idea what it means to me to hear that you are on my side. I have felt so isolated these past months, it is nice to finally have a friend.

Please try to find a way to come back. I miss you all. Even if it was just for a short visit. I want to see you all again.

Please continue to send me your letters. I love to hear from you. And please call me Bella, not Isabella.

How have you and Alice been? Are you doing anything out of the ordinary?

Your friend,

Bella Swan

I tucked the letter into my pocket, and went downstairs. I got the keys to my truck, and twisted the doorknob.

"I'm going for a drive! I'll be back before dinner!" I called to Charlie.

"Okay Bella, have fun!" He called back.

I smiled and shut the door behind. I rushed to my truck and climbed inside. I turned the ignition and the engine roared to life.

I drove down the wet road into town. I turned into the post office parking lot and quickly got out. I put my letter in an envelope and put a stamp on the corner of it. I wrote Jasper's address down, and put the paper in the mail slot.

"Bella Swan! Is that really you?" A familiar voice came from behind me. I turned around and forced myself to smile.

"Hey Mike." I greeted.

"I can't believe you are actually outside!" He chuckled.

I forced myself to return his laughter. I walked around him and started to make my way to my truck, hoping to avoid conversation. Mike was nice, but not someone I'd choose to spend extensive time with.

"I know.. I've just been so busy lately." I said and opened the door to my vehicle.

"Well, if you have some free time you should go with me to the movies tomorrow night." He suggested, smiling warmly.

"Uh.. yeah maybe." I said absentmindedly climbing into the driver's side.

"So that's a yes?" He asked.

I paused awkwardly looking down at Mike. His large toothy grin tugged on my heartstrings.

"Er... I guess." I answered.

I could be a real pushover sometimes, but I really didn't want to hurt Mike's feelings. I knew what it felt like. Nobody deserved to go through that.

"Awesome! It's a date! I'll pick you up at say.. sevenish?" He grinned.

Oh dear God, what had I done?

"Sounds good. I'll see you tomorrow." I said, trying to sound excited.

I drove home beyond mad at myself. Now I had to go on a date with Mike Newton. What was I thinking?

I pulled into my driveway, and another car was parked in my spot. It was Billy Black's car. Him and Jacob must be over watching the game with Charlie. I stepped inside the warm house and removed my jacket.

"Dad? I'm home!"

"Hey Bells, look who's here!" Charlie called. I walked into the living room and plastered a small grin on my face.

"Hey Billy, Jacob." I greeted, trying to be friendly.

Jacob's smile nearly took up half his face. "Hey Bella! How have you been?"

He looked older since the last time I had saw him. He looked.. buff, not Emmett buff, but still buff. Did the reservation have some sort of advanced gym for body builders that I didn't know about? Steroids?

"I've been all right." I said quickly, realizing I had yet to answer his question.

"Well, you look like hell." He chuckled.

"Jacob." Billy mumbled. Jacob just shrugged apologetically.

I rolled my eyes playfully, "Thanks Jacob."

"Anytime." He chuckled.

I sat down on one of our chairs, and tried to make conversation with our guests. I had never been good at small talk, but I gave an honest effort.

"It's too bad the Cullens moved. Heard around that they were pretty nice." Jacob said with a shrug, that suggested he thought the opposite.

The hole in my chest that seemed to be healing ripped back open once again. I could have sworn that I saw Billy smirk.

"I don't think that Bella wants-" Charlie began to say.

"No dad, it's fine. It is to bad they left. I'm pretty mad at them actually." I said matter-of-factly and crossed my arms.

"Well if it was me, I wouldn't have left like that. That Edward kid was lucky to have you." Jacob muttered. A stabbing pain hit my heart as I heard Edward's name aloud. It still hurt to hear.

"You okay, honey?" Charlie asked and rubbed my back lightly.

"Mmhm.. just nervous I guess. I'm going to the movies with a friend tomorrow, and I guess I'm just not accustomed to going out." I chuckled halfheartedly.

"Oh well, that's good. Which friend?" Charlie asked, looking hopeful.

"Mike Newton."

Jacob cut in, "Oh! Are you seeing that new movie? What is it called.. 'Children of The Dark'! It looks super scary! I've been wanting to see it!"

"I don't know. He never specified." I shrugged.

"Well the only other one is that cheesy romcom. You better hope that you aren't seeing that!" Jacob laughed.

"Well if you want, I'm sure he'd let you come." I offered. I was desperate for anything that would prevent this date from happening.

"That'd be cool! You sure?" He asked. He was practically bouncing in his seat.

"Yeah, I'll talk to him at school. I'll call you and tell you what we are doing." I smiled. This was perfect, now it wasn't a date, now we were all just hanging out as friends.

"Cool, cool." Jacob grinned.

We all continued talking for a while. I made fish tacos for dinner, with the fish Billy had brought over. We ate - well everyone except Jacob - and they went home.

I planned on telling Mike about my plans with Jacob at school the next day. I almost ran out to check the mail once before bed, but then I realized how ridiculous that would be. I had just sent the letter this afternoon.

Things were finally starting to look up.

The next morning I got up and got ready for school. It might seem kind of silly, but I checked the mailbox before I got in my truck. Once I was at school, I found Mike in the hallway and waved him over.

"Hey Bella." He greeted, smiling largely.

"Hey Mike, I am really excited for tonight. I was actually wondering if I could invite a friend to come along? His name is Jacob, he's from La Push" I said. Mike's smile slowly faded, and I felt a little guilty.

"Oh yeah, um.. sure thing. I think that Jessica actually wanted to see a movie too. She could come." He offered, he didn't sound exactly happy about that idea.

"Yeah sounds good, thanks Mike." I said giving him a small hug to cheer him up. I couldn't stand the look on his face. He looked like a sad puppy that had just been kicked.

"See you tonight."

"Yeah..."
