I had reread that text message more times than I could count. Jasper had sent it to me earlier this evening. He supposedly would be here any second.
The past two weeks had been the longest I had experienced, as expected. I tried to distract myself with books and shopping trips with my friends, but it hadn't worked. I was constantly checking the phone Jasper had gifted me incase he had left me a message. But tonight, minutes from now, that all wouldn't matter. I would get to see him and it would all be worth it. I'd feel whole again.
I stared out my open window. The sky was huge and speckled with twinkling stars. I could barely make out the outline of trees in the darkness.
Any second now.
I slid open the window and let the cool air flood my room. My phone was resting in my hand as I willed myself not to leave Jasper an unnecessary amount of text messages.
My imagination began to run wild. What if he had been followed by newborns and murdered? What if he had been devoured by one of the wolves? Or Edward for that matter? Why was he taking so long?
"Hey!" A deep voice hissed from below me.
I smiled widely. I looked down at my love as he stood below my windowsill. His smile matched mine.
"Miss me?" He asked quietly.
I giggled and shook my head, "What would make you think that?"
He gasped, "Well in that case, I'll just be on my way." He said pretending to be offended. He turned dramatically and took a few steps into the surrounding darkness.
"Wait Jasper, wait," I begged trying to control my laughter. "Yes, of course I missed you."
He chuckled and shook his head. "Well that's good, because you single handedly took over every thought in my mind from the moment I left. I've missed you like crazy."
I could feel my face flushing.
"Can I come up?" He asked.
I nodded my head and backed away from the window. He jumped through the opening and silently landed in my room with ease. Within a second we were next to each other. I took his hand and he cupped my face. Our lips met gently.
Minutes passed full of soft kisses and cuddling. We moved over to the bed. I layed between his arm and I gripped his shirt as I took in his figure, his scent, his... everything.
In that moment everything was perfect. I closed my eyes finally allowing myself to rest, completely content.
But perfection rarely lasts.
"Darling, there's someone here." Jasper whispered and sat up straight.
"What?" I whispered. He wouldn't act like this if it was just Charlie coming home. This was a threat.
"There's someone here. I can smell them." He whispered urgently.
He got up and slowly stalked around the room. He reminded me of a lion stalking his prey. He moved back to my side. His eyebrows were furrowed in thought.
"They were here early today... in your room."
"What? Why would someone be in my room?" I questioned.
"I have no idea. But I promise you we will find out. Everything will be okay." He promised as he wrapped his arms around me.
I hoped that he'd be right.
Sorry for the short chapter. It's meant to just be the quick introduction to part 2 of the book.
