â¡â¡ Training â¡â¡
Me and Jasper were stood in a small clearing in the forest. We were waiting for everyone to show up to their first lesson in fighting newborn vampires. I could feel Jasper's nerves as they radiated off of him. I knew he was nervous they wouldn't show up. I took his hand in an attempt to ease his mind. I had no idea if it helped or not, but he did seem to relax slightly.
"They should be here by now." He sighed and leaned a little closer to me.
I rubbed my thumb over his knuckles, "It's going to be okay Jasper. They're coming."
As if on cue, a figure jumped down from the overhead trees and landed on the ground without a noise. When they looked up at us I realized it was Alice.
She smiled slightly, "The others are on their way. They'll be a few more minutes."
Jasper let out a sigh of relief. I could honesty say I was very relieved too. Sure I acted like I was sure they would come, but I hadn't been positive. I had been uncharacteristically confident to calm Jasper's nerves.
We all stood in awkward silence. I watched as Alice bounced from the palm of her foot to the heel, again and again. Jasper was looking down at his feet.
Not soon enough, the rest of the Cullens showed up. Surprisingly, even Edward made an appearance. I thought for sure he would stay far away from this fight, but here he was, a cold glare on his face.
We waited for all the wolves to show up before beginning. All eyes were on Jasper, waiting for instructions. He took a breath and stepped into the middle of the clearing. I stayed behind, letting him take center stage. I knew he would be uncomfortable in the spotlight, but he was the only one who could do this.
"Newborn armies... they're quick, they're strong, and they will kill you if they get a chance. Do not let them have a chance... They are not like older vampires, they are insane with blood-lust. If you cannot handle their chaotic fighting style, you will die. That is why we are here, to prepare and train you all. Can I have a volunteer?"
Emmett instantly stepped forward with a large, dumb grin, "Let's do this."
Jasper chuckled and motioned for Emmett to come closer. They began to circle each other. Not one breath was taken, as we all awaited one of them to make the first move.
"Argh!" Emmett charged at Jasper with insane speed.
It was almost too fast to notice, but Jasper flipped over the top of him, wrapped an arm around Emmett's neck, and in a sort of arch motion flung Emmett onto his back. Emmett cursed loudly.
He stood above Emmett as the victor, "Never go for the direct approach, they will be expecting that, and you will die."
Emmett picked himself up off the ground, "Oh shut up! It was a lucky shot!"
"I won, didn't I?" Jasper said with a slight smirk coming across his features.
Emmett rolled his eyes.
"Emmett's fighting style is much like a newborns'. He's fast and much stronger than all of us. If he were to ever get his arms around you it's over for you. That's why you have to rely less on you muscle and more on strategy. Use his strength against him. The same applies to newborns." Jasper instructed. The wolves eyed him with interest.
The training went on for a few hours. Jasper guided all different combinations of vampires and wolves in their fights. The sparring was fascinating to watch. Everyone had their own fighting style, but I found Jasper's the most interesting. He seemed to bend and shift around his opponent like a phantom. Jasper was a master in his craft. This was a new side of him that I had never seen. I was seeing the leader of an army, and I was seeing a warrior. The circumstances in which he learned these thing were heartbreaking, but that didn't make them any less impressive.
Alice was also quite interesting to watch. Unlike Jasper, when she fought she danced around her enemy. She kept her eyes closed and used her visions to guide her. Her opponents never even touched her. I hadn't been expecting that from her, but I guess I should've.
We all had our eyes locked on a battle between Edward and Carlisle. Jasper was giving them advice as they fought. Edward growl whenever he spoke, not wanting his help, but Jasper ignored him. I watched as Edward outsped Carlisle at every turn. I hated to admit it, but his skills were amazing.
I didn't notice the gasp that escaped Alice, I was too invested in the spar, but Jasper had. He held up his hands and stepped between the two fighters.
"Stop! Stop!" He demanded with unquestionable authority.
They both stopped in their tracks, Edward with a huff. Jasper was by Alice's side quickly. I jogged over there too. Alice's eyes were wide and cloudy and she was shaking almost unnoticeably.
"Alice? What do you see?" Jasper asked gripping both her shoulders. It slightly bothered me, but I brushed it off. This was no time to get jealous.
When she didn't answer Jasper gave her a light shake, "Alice! What do you see?"
She inhaled a sharp breath, "She's coming! She changed her plans! She's coming tomorrow!"
Jasper took a step back and ran a hand through his hair. I watched him while my heart felt as if it would beat from my chest. This was terrible.
He turned to me and took my hand, "Bella we have to go." He said seriously.
I just nodded, too scared to speak.
Shouts came from behind as Jasper walked me to my truck, but he didn't seem to care about them. We drove off as I wondered how we were going to do this.
Hey guys! Thanks for waiting so patiently for this chapter. The support and understanding comments I have been getting have been very heartwarming, and they've honestly helped me a ton. I'm doing much better now, and hopefully I'll be able to get chapters put more frequently. Happy Holidays! x
