My body was stronger than before, although I was quickly depleting Carlisle's blood supply that he kept for emergencies (mostly emergencies that had to do with me accidentally getting hurt). He had checked up on me the day prior, and I was farther along than any of us thought. I could go into labor anywhere from one week to two.
"Bella," Jasper interrupted my wandering thoughts, "I can feel her."
His words caught me off gaurd, "What?"
"I feel her. She's happy a-and comfortable. I can feel her emotions." He said, softly placing a hand on my bump.
Tears welled up in my eyes as I smiled, "Can you tell her I love her?"
Jasper nodded his head, wrapping his arms around my waist and leaning his head against my shoulder. I was enveloped in Jasper's wave of love, warming me to my core.
I didn't notice Carlisle answer the front door, until we were interrupted.
"Hey Bells, you scared me disappearing off the face of the Earth like that." Jacob commented. I think he had meant for it to be a joke, but then his eyes landed on my protruding stomach and his voice fell flat. He looked over at Jasper for an explanation.
Jasper didn't answer, his eyes fell downcast.
I answered for him, "I'm pregnant jake." I couldn't help but smile down at my stomach. I cradled it with my hands.
You could feel Jasper pulse a wave of serenity into the room. It didn't seem to affect Jake.
"What the fuck did you do?" Jake snarled.
My lover stood up, "Well, when a daddy vampire and a mommy-"
"This isn't a joke! Look at her! You've fucking killed her!" He yelled, shoving Jasper.
Carlisle approached them, "You need to calm down. We can't fight here. We shouldn't put any more stress on Bella."
Peter moved so he was stood by my side. He gave my hand a soft squeeze, "Why don't we take this outside? Me and Carlisle could mediate."
"I want to be alone. This is between me and him," Jake argued.
"Clearly we can't trust you two alone," Rosalie piped in. She had scooted over closer to me. She sat up in a position that would make it easy for her to protect me if that were necessary.
"Let's take this outside Jake," Jasper insisted.
Jake scoffed and rolled his eyes, but all the same he walked outside with Jasper, Peter, and Carlisle. I watched them leave, feeling the urge to follow them but knowing that wouldn't be a good idea.
Rose scoffed next to me, "Did he honestly think he could take all of us on?"
"He was going to try fight you?" I asked.
She nodded, looking out the window across from us, "He probably planned on it. He obviously thought we had changed you and, by extension, broke the treaty."
"What do you think he will do now that he knows the truth?" I placed my hands on my stomach, suddenly feeling very worried for my little butterfly.
Rosalie sighed and gently rubbed my arm to comfort me, "We won't let him near her. I promise."
"Thank you," I whispered. Tears clouded my vision at the kind sentiment.
She nodded and continued to stare out the window at the small group of men talking outside. She could most likely hear the entire conversation.
Eventually, she stood up straight and looked at me. "We should get you in the bath."
"Right now?" It seemed like an odd time for a bath.
"Yes," She said immediately, "You need to relax."
I felt like she was hiding something from me, "What are they saying out there?"
"Bella," She sighed, "They are just trying to figure some things out. Jasper will take care of it. Let's just go."
I gave in, "Okay."
I let Rosalie help me up off the couch. She hooked her arm in mine and lead me to our bathroom. We both moved slowly. I had become very fragile during my pregnancy despite the copious amounts of blood I had been consuming.
I carefully stripped off my clothes as Rose drew the bath. I looked at myself in the mirror. My stomach was covered in black and blue bruises. My eyes were sunken into my skull and my face had lost all of it roundness. My cheekbones were sharp, looking like they were about to cut through my skin.
I cradled my protruding stomach. I knew this all would be worth it in the end. I smiled down at my little butterfly and in that moment a liquid soaked my legs and the floor. It took me a second to register that my water had broken.
