Chapter 50 of 50

Epilogue

I watched out the window into our little garden. The summer air seeped in through it filling our cottage with a sweet, floral aroma. Jasper was outside wrestling with Jesse, while Morgan climbed his favorite tree.

Every moment with them, watching them grow together, was the very life force I needed in my now frozen body. Perfect.

It was perfection for eternity, until the sun exploded and took all of us with it. And I had to ask myself, would that even be enough?

Maybe we would transcend time altogether. There couldn't possibly be an existence more beautiful than this one. Maybe the universe would keep us around forever. An enigma. An unmoving force.

If not, well, thousands of years with the three people I loved more than anything. That was far more than I deserved.

Jasper looked up from the yard and smiled at me. He felt it too.
