âââ Emily and The Pack âââ
"Bella stop! Calm down!" Jacob yelled. I continued to kick and scream for him to let me go. I couldn't just leave Jasper by himself. Laurent or those huge wolves could kill him for all I knew.
"No Jake! Let me go! He needs me!" I yelled, still trying to escape his clutches.
"He doesn't Bella! He's fine!" Jacob yelled. I doubted he knew who I was talking about. He dragged me into a small cabin, and set me down on one of the couches.
"Everything is fine Bella. It's all under control." Jacob said putting his hands on my shoulders so I couldn't get up.
"Why should I believe you! You left me!" I yelled, and struggled to get away from him.
"Bella, I'm sorry... it's just complicated. Please calm down." He pleaded. I struggled for a while longer, but eventually I grew tired and stopped. I gave him a hesitant nod. There really was no way I could get away from him anyway. He was too strong, it must come with being a shapeshifter.
"Bella, I'm not... good. It's not that I don't want to be near you, I just can't." He sighed.
"Because you're a wolf?" I said bluntly.
"How did you-"
"I read sometimes, you know. I've known for weeks. Not to mention the whole display you just put on. I'm not stupid." I said with clear irritation.
"Well, never mind then. Uh.. so you aren't bothered that I'm a werewolf?" He chuckled warmly, reminding me of the old Jake.
"Not at all. Did you forget who I spent majority of last year with?" I said with a small smile. Jacob scowled and sat down next to me.
"How could I forget about those filthy leeches? Don't know how you tolerated them." He scoffed. I held my tongue, I didn't want to argue this with him. The last thing I wanted was to start crying.
"Oh, Jacob I didn't hear you come in. Who's this?" A woman asked. She had a large scar down one side of her face, and I had to stop myself from staring.
"It's Bella, Emily. You got anything to eat?" He asked, sprawling out on the couch. Emily nodded and went into the small kitchen area. She came back in with a tray of what looked like blueberry muffins. Jake took three and started to hungrily shove the first one into his mouth.
Emily held her hand out for me to shake. I took it hesitantly and shook it once before dropping my hand back to my lap.
"I'm Emily, Sam's fiancée." She introduced herself with a small smile on her face.
"Sam is the big black one. He's Alpha." Jacob mumbled with his mouth full. Emily's mouth dropped open.
"Jacob!"
"She already knows, Em. Chill out." He said, grinning slightly. Emily looked over to me, and searched me over with her eyes.
"Oh," She whispered, and walked back into the kitchen without another word.
I sat and anxiously waited. I didn't know what I was waiting for. I was praying that Jasper would be okay. I kept replaying Laurent biting him in my mind and it was making me sick to my stomach. I couldn't lose the only Cullen who bothered talking to me.
Four men came into the room, talking in a panicked manner. The one who I assumed was Sam, had one of the men in his arms. He was obviously in pain, and he was gasping for air. Jacob stood up and went to help out.
"Sam, what happened to Paul?" Jacob asked.
"Cullen." Sam whispered, setting Paul on the table. Jacob clenched his hands into fists. I watched them in disbelief. Jasper wouldn't have hurt them. He couldn't have.
"I'm sure that leech-lover is enjoying herself." Paul spat, through shallow breaths. He started coughing roughly, and I cringed internally. I felt bad for Paul, but was just as worried about Jasper.
"If you would have listened to me then this wouldn't be a problem, Paul." Sam said seriously.
"If you hadn't stopped me, then he would be dead!" Paul yelled, then immediately began to have a coughing fit.
"And then the treaty would be nullified, and we would all likely die anyway." Sam lectured.
"Whatever." Paul said between coughs.
"Should we call Sue?" One of the shirtless guys asked Emily. She shook her head.
"No, don't bother her. He's healing normally, she wouldn't be able to do anything more for him even if she was here." Emily said, gently prodding and poking at Paul's ribs. Everyone was silent as they watched Paul. His breathing was starting to become regular, and the pain shown on his face started to dissipate.
"You should probably get Bella out of here, Jacob. She doesn't need to start asking questions." Sam whispered.
"Sam, she's already figured it out." Jacob mumbled to him. Paul sat up with a gasp and stared me down with hate filled eyes.
"What!" He screamed, his nostrils flaring. He started to get up wincing and grimacing as his body moved.
"Paul! Calm down!" Sam demanded, putting a hand on his shoulder and forcing him to lay back down.
"Jared, Embry, take Bella home." Sam ordered they nodded their heads. One of the two helped me up, and I was escorted out of the house. Emily tossed keys to the older looking boy of the pair. We got into a small white convertible, what I assumed was Emily's car. Why she would have a convertible in Forks of all places was beyond me.
"Can't believe that Paul almost lost it like that. He almost phased." The younger one said.
"Embry stop, we shouldn't be talking about this right now." The boy, who I assumed was Jared, said.
"Why? Didn't you hear Jake? She already knows, it doesn't make much of a difference now." Embry shrugged.
"We still don't need to talk about it. She doesn't need to know anything more than she does.. She's practically one of them."
"Nah.. she's just a human. They left her anyway. You saw how bad she looked in Jake's head. It's actually a good thing she knows, don't ya think? Jake might not be as moody." He chortled.
"Embry, shut up." Jared mumbled.
Embry rolled his eyes and looked out the window. I watched them both as the car fell silent. We drove along for a while.
"Did you kill him? Well Paul, did Paul kill him?" I blurted out, desperately hoping the answer was no. I couldn't lose my friend.
"Who?" Embry asked. A quiet growling noise came from Jared.
"Jasper! Did you kill him!" I yelled.
"We didn't kill Cullen, if that's what you're worried about. Paul couldn't even touch the slimy little thing, royally pissed him off." Embry chuckled.
"Embry, shut up!" Jared snapped. He took a deep breath and went silent for a moment. "Your friend is fine Bella." He mumbled, pulling into my driveway. I sighed and nodded my head.
I quietly got out of the car. I didn't bother saying goodbye to either of them. I didn't really know what to think of Jacob's pack. I walked inside my house, and went straight up to get into a warm bath. I tried to avoid Charlie as much as possible. I really didn't want to explain this to him. I layed down on my bed and stared out the window, noticing that something felt off.
My truck.
I had left my truck at the pull off, and my keys were no where to be found. I wasn't even sure what to do in this situation.
