Chapter 17: Isobel

I'm Mariana Gilbert. (TVD fanfic: Damon Salvatore)Words: 31967

"I'm supposed to help build the Miss Mystic float for the Founder's day parade. If I don't, I get the wrath of Caroline." I stated, putting my bag on the bed. "But, I wanted to check in first." I added and moved over to my dresser.

"Well, I'm doing great. Thanks for asking." Damon stated in amusement, making me roll my eyes at him and chuckle.

"Checking in on Stefan." I corrected with a smirk as I put my phone on speaker and put it down on my dresser.

"Oh, Him? He's—he's terrible." Damon answered with a sigh and I furrowed my eyebrows.

"What the matter?" I asked, opening my drawers to grab a few shirts as well as some shorts for Elena, since I didn't wear them much.

"He's just back to his boring, straight-laced, off the junk self. Elena has successfully cured him of anything that was interesting about his personality." Damon sighed in annoyance and I chuckled back at him.

"Don't forget who helped her." I countered in amusement as I shook my head.

"I hate myself." Damon chuckled back in pure amusement and I smiled a bit. "Hey, did Uncle John mention anything to you about our field trip with the history teacher?" He added and I rose my eyebrow.

"No, I've still been avoiding him. Why? What do you think he's up to?" I asked, looking at Elena as she came in and I put a finger to my mouth as she grabbed the clothes I pulled from my drawers.

'Thank you' Elena mouthed and I nodded back at her, shutting the drawers again.

"I have no idea—But I'd love it if you could find out for me." Damon replied sweetly and I slowly nodded and grabbed the phone off of my dresser.

"I gotta go. But I'll see what I can do." I reassured him as I took my phone off of speaker and put it up to my ear.

"Have fun with the Mystic Queen. I know I did." Damon pointed out in amusement and I rolled my eyes before hanging up.

I sat on a desk in Alaric's classroom, where we all decided to meet. Alaric stood beside his desk while Stefan sat on the corner of it and Elena sat in the desk beside me. The door opened and we all looked toward it, revealing Damon who walked in and left the door wide open. "Damon. Thanks for coming." Ric stated gratefully toward him before folding his arms over his chest.

"Sorry I'm late. My dog ate my.." Damon started, leading off in an awkward tone once he noticed the tension surrounding the room. "Never mind." He added with furrowed brows and I sighed deeply before I looked expectantly between Alaric, Stefan and Elena.

"Okay, will someone please explain what's with all of the furrowed brows?" I asked in annoyance, only arriving a few minutes before Damon.

"I saw Isobel last night." Ric pointed out emotionally and I felt my breath hitch in my throat.

"Isobel's here? In town?" Damon asked, shaking his head in confusion Alaric nodded in agreement. Damon looked at me in concern and I looked down at Elena who stared back at me, uncertainty playing on her face. "Did you ask her about Uncle John? Are they working together?" Damon asked, looking back at Ric.

"No." He answered emotionlessly and I furrowed my eyebrows.

"No, they're not?" I asked, looking away from Elena and back toward him.

"No, I didn't ask." Ric stated, putting his hands in his pockets.

"What about the invention?" Damon asked again, tilting his head.

"Didn't ask." He pointed out with a shrug and I sighed at him, growing impatient.

"Does she know about the tomb of vampires?" I asked, sliding off of the desk and standing in front of him expectantly.

"I don't know." Ric stated with a sigh of defeat as he looked back down at me.

"Did words completely escape you?" Damon asked in annoyance and moving forwards to get in Alaric's face.

"No, I was a little too distracted by my dead vampire wife to ask any questions." Ric stated in frustration, raising his voice as he because equally annoyed with Damon.

"What did she want?" I asked, looking at Alaric in defeat and he looked down.

"She wants to see us, Mari.." Elena answered from behind me. I turned toward her, taken aback before I looked between both Alaric and Elena in confusion.

"Alaric is supposed to arrange a meeting. We don't know why or what she wants." Stefan pointed out in a calm voice from across me.

"You don't have to see her if you don't want to." Damon stated in reassurance as he looked between Elena and I.

"We don't really have a choice." Elena countered with a shrug and I looked back at her, furrowing my eyebrows.

"She's threatening to go on a killing spree." Alaric informed and I watched Damon slowly look around at everyone.

"Oh. I take it that's... not okay with you guys?" Damon asked sarcastically and I rolled my eyes in return.

"I wanna do it. I want to meet her." Elena stated with a deep breath and I furrowed my eyebrows down at her. "If I don't, I know I'll regret it. You would too, Mariana. I'm sure of it." She added, slowly shaking her head back at me. I narrowed my eyes at her, thinking it over and not saying a word before I rolled my eyes and looked away from her.

"Fine." I stated emotionlessly and sat back down on the desk top beside her. "But don't hold your breath if you're hoping by the end of night, we'll be holding hands and singing Kumbaya around a campfire." I added skeptically, making her furrow her eyebrows in response.

"She's our mom, Mariana—" Elena started but I quickly cut her off and stood in front of her again.

"And she left us, Elena. As far as I'm concerned, our mother was the one that died going off Wickery bridge." I replied emotionlessly. Elena looked back at me in silence, not knowing how to respond. I looked away from her and at Alaric who was staring at me with concern in his eyes. "Set up a meeting. And make it public." I added before I quickly walked out of the room.

Elena and I sat at a table in the Grill as she looked around nervously, sipping on her drink while I looked down at my phone. A waitress came over to us and put down a side of fries and I watched Elena jump in anxiousness before let out a deep breath. "Thanks." Elena stated in defeat and I sighed, putting my phone down on the table as the waitress walked away.

"Will you just breathe?" I asked reassuringly and grabbed her hand before gesturing toward Stefan who watched us from one of the pool tables in the corner. "Everything's fine. There's no need to be nervous." I added with a small smile and Elena shook her head back at me.

"Easy for you to say. You can snap someone's neck by twisting your wrist. What do you even have to be nervous about?" Elena asked in defeat and I sighed in defeat at her before footsteps came over to us and stopped. I looked to the side of me to see a woman dressed in black with dark hair, hazel eyes and fair skin. She looked down at Elena and I silently, not saying a word as she took off her coat and her bag before putting them on the back of her chair and sitting down.

"Hello, girls." Isobel stated with a small smile, looking between us after she exhaled a deep breath. "You look just like her. It's eerie." She added, letting her eyes linger on mine for a few seconds longer.

"You've met Katherine?" Elena asked in confusion, furrowing her eyebrows and Isobel looked back at her.

"She found me after I turned. Genetic curiosity, I suppose." Isobel answered emotionlessly. "She would be fascinated by you." She added, eyeing Elena curiously before I cleared my throat.

"Is that how you can walk in the daylight?" I asked, gesturing down at the blue necklace the hung from her neck and she smiled down at it.

"Katherine helped me obtain it." Isobel answered and I rose an eyebrow, slowly nodding.

"Who's our father?" Elena asked her, changing the subject and Isobel tilted her head.

"Not important. He was a teenage waste of space." She stated, staring back at her and I rose an eyebrow at her attitude. Straight forward and blunt.

"A name would be nice." I pointed out in annoyance and watched her look back at me.

"It would, wouldn't it? You two ask a lot of questions." Isobel replied in annoyance toward us and I rolled my eyes, sitting back in my chair in disinterest. Elena looked away from her, obviously hurt by the fact Isobel had no care for answering any questions given.

"Why did you tell that man to kill himself, right after he told us to stop looking for you?" Elena asked, narrowing her eyes back at Isobel who smirked.

"Dramatic impact. I wish it would've been more effective." Isobel replied, tilting her head carelessly and Elena scoffed.

"Human life means that little to you?" Elena countered in disbelief and furrowed her eyebrows.

"It means nothing to me." Isobel stated with a small smile and I folded my arms over my chest. "It's just a part of being what I am." She added with a shrug and I rolled my eyes.

"No, it's not. We know other vampires. That's not true." I protested, making Isobel's gaze fall on me.

"You mean, Elena's boyfriend over there by the pool table?" Isobel asked, raising an eyebrow. Elena and I exchanged a look of confusion before looking at Stefan who was obviously listening in, given the taken aback expression he had on his face. "Stefan Salvatore.. Why Stefan? Why didn't you go for Damon?" She added skeptically toward Elena before she looked towards me with a smirk. "Or do you enjoy them both? Like Katherine did." She stated with a smile.

"Why did you want to meet us? It can't be to just catch up." I stated in annoyance, changing the subject and Isobel rose an eyebrow at me.

"Because I'm curious about you." Isobel stated, looking between Elena and I again, but mostly Elena. "But, I want what your uncle wants—Jonathan Gilbert's invention." She added emotionlessly, making Elena scoff.

"How do you know my uncle?" She asked, shaking her head in confusion.

"I use to spend a lot of time here when I was younger. John had a crush on me for years. He was the first one that told me about vampires." Isobel informed and I furrowed my eyebrows, thinking it over, or trying to.

"So, what made you want to be one?" Elena countered and Isobel tilted her head at her before she sighed.

"It's a very long list of reasons, Elena. All of which, I'm sure you've thought about." Isobel answered, narrowing her eyes and I looked at Elena who slowly shook her head. "That was your first lie." She added emotionlessly and Elena furrowed her eyebrows. "It's inevitable. You're gonna get old, Stefan won't. Forever doesn't last very long when you're human." Isobel pointed out and I noticed Elena's, as well as Stefan's expression harden as the subject became too much for them.

"I'm sorry. But we don't have what you're looking for." I stated in annoyance toward Isobel, changing the subject and she looked at me with a smirk.

"But Damon does." She countered and I rose an eyebrow at her. "And you're gonna get it for me." Isobel added, tilting her head expectantly and I furrowed my eyebrows.

"He's not going to give it to me." I scoffed dryly and watched her eyes narrow back at me.

"Then the blood will be on your hands." Isobel warned emotionlessly before she got up from the chair and grabbed her things quickly. "It was nice meeting you, girls." She added, not turning back to look at us before walking out of the Grill.

I walked into the science classroom that Bonnie texted me to meet her in before I saw her standing at one of the lab counters. She smiled at me and I rose an eyebrow, closing the door behind me. "Hey, I wanted you to see this." Bonnie stated and I furrowed my eyebrows as I walked over to her.

"Is that Emily's spell book?" I asked, looking it over as it sat in front of her and she nodded back at me.

"I've been going through it since Grams died." Bonnie replied quietly and I slowly sighed in defeat. "Check this out." She added, pointing down at a page in front of us and I furrowed my eyebrows, scanning over the picture that was drawn there.

"That's the vampire compass." I stated, lingering my fingers over the page and looking back up at Bonnie confused.

"Yeah. According to Emily, Jonathan Gilbert never actually succeeded in inventing anything. Emily secretly spelled them all with magic—compass.." Bonnie said, gesturing down at the page as I rose my eyebrow as she flipped it. "Rings.." She added as I looked over the page that went over how to make a daylight ring. Bonnie turned the page again and pointed her finger down at a picture on the page in front of us. "And the mystery device Elena told me about." She added and I furrowed my eyebrows down at the pictures.

"Yeah, that's it—Well, part of it." I stated in confusion as I looked over the other pieces of the device. "But Damon only has one piece." I added, looking back at Bonnie.

"Emily pledged her loyalty to Katherine. But she couldn't stand by and watch innocent people get killed. This was the only way she could think of to help—to let Jonathan Gilbert believe he'd actually invented these devices." Bonnie pointed out and I slowly sighed, looking down at the pages again.

"Does it say what it does?" I asked, raising my eyebrow at the old writing and watched as Bonnie slowly read the writing before her, furrowing her eyebrows back at me.

"Are you sure this is what Isobel wants?" Bonnie asked in confusion and I rose an eyebrow.

"Yeah, I'm sure.. Why?" I countered, shaking my head back at her.

"This is a weapon." Bonnie informed and I furrowed my eyebrows down at it. "Against vampires." She warned and I looked back at the drawings in confusion.

I shook my head and walked around the school parking lot and through the crowd of people helping set up for the Founder's parade. "Mariana!" A voice around me yelled and I turned to see Jeremy come over to me.

"Hey, have you seen Elena and Stefan? I need to find them." I stated in concern and he shook his head as we walked together.

"No, not lately. Listen, um—do you have a second?" Jeremy asked and I rose an eyebrow at him.

"Uh, sure. What's up?" I asked, looking away from him and at Matt and Caroline who were working on the Miss Mystic's float a few feet from us.

"Well, it's Anna. I've left her all these messages, and she hasn't gotten back to me—not even a text." Jeremy stated in defeat as we stopped walking and I furrowed my eyebrows.

"Anna? I didn't know that you guys were still friends." I countered, remembering that the girl he was talking about, was also a vampire. And the one who kidnapped Elena.

"Yeah, we're more than friends." Jeremy pointed out quietly and I rose an eyebrow at him. "Look, something could be seriously wrong and if you know anything, you gotta let me know." He added, his voice filled with concern as he stared down at me.

"I haven't talked to her, Jeremy." I stated, shaking my head back at him and he furrowed his eyebrows.

"Are you lying to me right now?" He asked and I rose an eyebrow back at him, taken aback by his question.

"Jer, why would you say that?" I asked, looking at him in complete confusion but he scoffed.

"Because that's what you and Elena do, Mariana. You lie. You two lie about everything." Jeremy stated angrily down at me and I furrowed my eyebrows. "I know what Anna is." He whispered, leaning forward and I narrowed my eyes at him. "And I know that you and Elena know—So tell me.. Do you have any idea where she is?" Jeremy asked emotionlessly down at me and I slowly shook my head back at him.

"No." I stated in honesty and Jeremy sighed at me before quickly walking away. "Jer, Wait." I started after him but he didn't listen and kept walking. I shook my head and turned away from him only to see Isobel who stood in front of me. "Isobel. What are you doing here?" I asked in confusion.

"I'm your mother, Mariana. I want to be more involved in your and Elena's lives." She answered with a small smile and I rolled my eyes at her.

"I don't want you in my life and I'm sure that I can speak for Elena as well." I countered in annoyance and folded my arms over my chest.

"I understand that. You both already have a lot of people that you care about." Isobel pointed out and I furrowed my eyebrows at her. "But I've been studying—Let's see if I got this right." She added, turning away from me and looking at Bonnie who walked through the crowd of people by herself. "There's the witchy best friend Bonnie." Isobel stated before turning back to me. "Gonna stay away from that one." She added in annoyance and I rolled my eyes at her as she looked past me and at Jer who was calling someone on his phone. "Sad little brother Jeremy." Isobel sighed before looking towards the Miss Mystic's float as Caroline sat on it. "Caroline—obnoxious Caroline. I got all my info from her, by the way. She had no idea who I was and she wouldn't stop yapping." She scoffed and I narrowed my eyes at her as she looked away from me. "Oh—and then there's Matt and Tyler. Matt, Elena's ex and Tyler is yours. Lots of connections there." Isobel stated in amusement as the two were across from us, bickering and I scoffed at her.

"Look, you shouldn't be here." I stated, shaking my head at her as I quickly changed the subject. "You need to leave." I added, walking away from her but she grabbed my arm tightly and I narrowed my eyes in return.

"No." Isobel replied emotionlessly, pulling me back to her with a small smile. "I have some friends here, too. Look, see that man over there standing near the float by Matt and Tyler? His name's Frank and he's very handsome." Isobel stated in amusement and I looked to where she was pointing to see a man dressed up as a cowboy, by the looks of it. He stared down at Matt who was now fixing something from under the floats' trailer. "He's also quite handy. He noticed that the axel on the float was quite rusted, which is very dangerous. So, all you have to do is apply a little bit of pressure, and—" Isobel started with a smirk, making me widen my eyes as Frank jumped onto the trailer, causing it to go down and jam Matt's arm under it.

"Aah!? Ugh!! Hey, pick this trailer up off of me!" Matt yelled out in pain and I ran forwards but Isobel pulled me back to her angrily.

"Guys, help me!" Tyler yelled out, motioning for a few of the football players before they ran over to the trailer and started lifting it but it barely budged.

"Come on, get it off of me!!" Matt yelled in pain from under it. Stefan came from the crowd of people that surrounded the trailer and grabbed it. He helped the football players lift it up and Matt quickly got out from under the trailer before the boys put it back down.

"Matt!" Caroline yelled in concern as she ran over to him as did Tyler, Stefan and Elena, as she came from the crowd also.

"Caroline, call an ambulance." Stefan stated in warning and she nodded back at him before running away. Stefan looked over Matt's arm carefully while Matt held it close to him.

"Why are you doing this?" I asked, turning to Isobel in astonishment and watched her smirk.

"I'm showing you how easy it is to hurt that people you and Elena care about. Being her big sister, wouldn't you want to protect her from this instead of giving her a front row seat as the people around her get hurt? Or worse?" Isobel asked sadistically, tilting her head at me and I shook mine in anger.

"You're doing this only because of Jonathan Gilbert's invention?" I asked in disbelief as I scoffed.

"Give it to me and I will make the fun stop." Isobel reassured emotionlessly I groaned back at her.

"I told you, Damon's not going to give it to me." I stated through a clenched jaw and she rose an eyebrow.

"I think you underestimate how much Damon cares about you." Isobel replied and I furrowed my eyebrows at her before slowly shaking my head.

"He'll kill you before he gives it up." I stated emotionlessly and she tilted her head back at me.

"Is that before or after I kill your brother Jeremy?" Isobel asked with a smirk. I furrowed my eyebrows at her before I turned back to where Jeremy was, but he was gone. I widened my eyes and looked back at Isobel who disappeared also, feeling my breath hitch in my throat.

"Jeremy?" I asked in confusion as I forgot about Isobel and looked through the crowd around me. "Jeremy!" I yelled out loudly before turning to Elena and Stefan who furrowed their eyebrows at me in confusion and I slowly clenched my jaw. This bitch just started a war she won't be able to win.

~~~
"Where's the device?" Bonnie asked in concern as she sat in a desk once we all met in Alaric's classroom.
"Damon has it. He's going to be difficult to reason with." Stefan replied while I paced back and forth in front of them.
"Then—We'll go to him. I'll talk to him." I stated, nodding back at him reassuringly and crossing my arms over my chest.
"He's not just going to hand it over, especially if it's harmful to vampires." Stefan pointed out and I watched as Elena furrowed her eyebrows, clearly having an idea pop up in her head.
"What if it's not?" She countered and I rose an eyebrow back at her as she looked between Bonnie and I.
~~~

"Absolutely not." Damon scoffed as we all stood in the library now.

"Just hear me out, Damon—" I started but he quickly cut me off.

"I'm not going to give the device to Isobel so she can give it to John, who's gonna turn around and kill me. I like being a living dead person." Damon pointed out sarcastically and I sighed deeply.

"But it'll be useless. Bonnie can take its power away." Elena replied reassuringly and gesturing at Bonnie who sat on a chair quietly, watching all of us argue.

"I don't trust her." Damon countered in annoyance back at Elena.

"I can remove the original spell." Bonnie reassured as she looked between Elena and I, making me look back at Damon with a hopeful smile.

"John and Isobel will never know." I added with a shrug but he narrowed his eyes back at me, clearly unconvinced.

"No. No—I'll get Jeremy my own way." Damon replied and Stefan rose an eyebrow back at his brother.

"Really?" Stefan asked in a doubtful tone from beside Elena.

"Mm-Hmm." Damon nodded in a know it all fashion, making me roll my eyes at the two.

"How are you gonna do that, hmm?" Stefan asked, shaking his head in annoyance and Damon sighed. "Because Isobel is a vampire and Jeremy could be dead the second that you walk in the door." He added, rolling his eyes as well and I looked at Damon skeptically while he eyed Bonnie.

"Are you even up for this? I mean, no offense but you're no Emily Bennett. Emily knew what she was doing." Damon stated sarcastically as he eyed Bonnie, and slowly folded his arms over his chest.

"I've been practicing." Bonnie replied back with a short nod of confidence.

"It's not piano lessons, honey." Damon stated emotionlessly, narrowing his eyes at Bonnie who quickly got up from the chair she sat in before standing in front of Damon.

"What's your favorite book?" Bonnie asked, raising her eyebrow at him while Damon rolled his eyes.

"What?" He countered in annoyance at her.

"Name a book, any book." Bonnie stated, staring at Damon challengingly.

"Name a book.." Damon sighed, thinking it over in his head. "How about.. 'Call of the Wild', Jack London?" He asked with a smirk and narrowed his eyes down at her. Bonnie sighed in annoyance before turning away from him and scanning the bookshelves in front of her. I watched as her eyes fell in a book and she stared at it for a few seconds before it flew off of the shelf and toward Damon who caught it in his hand. "Jack London." He stated, eyeing the book before he threw it away from him. "Great Parlor trick." Damon added, smirking at her in annoyance and I scoffed.

"We're doing this, Damon." I pointed out before I stood directly in front of him. "And we're gonna do it my way. Now, give me the device." I stated, eyeing him while he stared back at me silently. "We're wasting time!" I warned in defeat and watched as he turned to look back at Bonnie.

"I don't trust you. I tried to kill you." Damon stated, narrowing his eyes at her and I she scoffed lightly.

"Mm. You're right. You can't trust me." Bonnie pointed out in annoyance toward him and I sighed deeply.

"You would have killed her if I didn't stop you." I informed and watched Damon look back at me, narrowing his eyes. "You can trust me. And you know it." I stated, looking at him with reassurance and watched as he looked past me and at Stefan and Elena who stood behind me. Damon's gaze fell back on me and he sighed in annoyance before grabbing the device from his pocket and putting it into my hand before closing my fingers over it. "Thank you." I whispered up at him and he sighed, walking away from me.

~~~
I watched as Bonnie looked down at Emily's spell book while the device sat beside her. She read through the book before gently taking the device apart. Three candles were lit in front of her and I watched in silence as she put her hands above the piece that she had taken out. The device floated under her hands and she closed her eyes, chanting silently. The lights around us started flickering and I rose an eyebrow and looked back at Bonnie curiously. The flames from the candles and fireplace behind Bonnie, burnt higher as the magic became greater. Elena held Stefan closer to her and I looked at Damon who seemed highly uninterested in the entire thing. Bonnie opened her eyes and let the small piece from the device, fall into her hands. Once it did, the lights came back on and the candles burnt themselves out.
"Done." Bonnie stated and looked at Stefan, Elena and I rose an eyebrow. I walked over to her and took the piece from her, examining it in my hand.
"Great. Now what?" Damon asked in annoyance from where he leant in the doorway across from me.
"Now we give it to Isobel." I replied emotionlessly and looked at Elena who took a deep breath.
~~~

Elena and I walked into Town Square but saw no sign of Isobel. "You think she'll show?" Elena asked, looking at me with some concern and uncertainty. I opened my mouth to speak before I felt a strong wind pass us and we both turned to Isobel standing behind us.

"Where's the device?" She asked emotionlessly, raising her eyebrow at Elena and I.

"Where's our brother?" Elena countered unwaveringly as she shook her head back at her.

"This isn't a negotiation." Isobel replied, chuckling in annoyance at her. "Where's the invention?" She asked again, this time it was more demanding. Elena and I exchanged a look before she crossed her arms over her chest and we both narrowed our eyes back at her.

"Where is our brother?" I asked, tilting my head at her emotionlessly.

"Do you really think that I came alone?" Isobel asked, staring past us with a sigh. I rose an eyebrow before Elena and I looked behind us to see two vampires, the same cowboy ditz from earlier, but also and female.

"Do you really think that we came alone?" Elena challenged with a scoff. Isobel smirked a bit and turned around before she gave Damon and Stefan a small smile and looked back at us.

"For God's sake, call home." Isobel sighed in annoyance and I furrowed my eyebrows at Elena.

"What?" Elena asked in confusion and Isobel nodded in agreement.

"Call home, ask to speak to your brother Jeremy." Isobel stated impatiently before Elena pulled out her phone from her pocket and dialed into it. I narrowed my eyes back at Isobel who sighed at us, clearly annoyed at the amount of effort she has to go through.

"Jeremy, are you okay?" Elena asked into the phone and I looked at her to hear her sigh in relief and nod back at me. "Mariana and I will be home soon, alright?" She added reassuringly before hanging up the phone and turning back to Isobel. "You were never going to hurt him." Elena stated, eyeing Isobel who tilted her head in return.

"No.. I was going to kill him." Isobel pointed out emotionlessly and I narrowed my eyes at her while Elena's eyes threatened to glaze over.

"Don't look for any redeeming qualities in her, Elena. She's proven that she doesn't have any." I stated emotionlessly and Isobel gave me a small smile.

"But you took a risk with Damon. How did you know that he was going to give it to Mariana?" Elena asked, furrowing her eyebrows in confusion as she shook her head at Isobel.

"Because he's in love with her." Isobel answered with a smirk and I felt my breath hitch in my throat. I looked past her and at Damon who avoided eye contact with me. "I'm surprised Mariana didn't find that out for herself. Maybe she's not her mother's daughter after all." She added with a sigh as she tilted her head back at me and I furrowed my eyebrows.

"What are you talking about?" I asked, staring at her in bewilderment while she smirked back at me.. Knowing something that I clearly didn't.

"What do you mean, 'not her mother's daughter'?" Elena quoted from beside me and Isobel chuckled a bit, realizing the chaos she had just spun.

"It really must be a shock, right? I mean, to learn that you look exactly like someone—yet, you're not even really twins." Isobel informed and I looked at her, completely taken aback. I looked at Elena who was furrowing her eyebrows at me, as if not seeing me clearly. Isobel held out her hand to me and I scoffed, taking the device out from my pocket before I put it into Isobel's hand and watched her smirk.

"Thank you." Elena stated from beside me and I watched Isobel furrow her eyebrows back at her.

"For what?" Isobel asked emotionlessly, obviously not very interested in hearing what she had to say.

"For being such a monumental disappointment." Elena answered, building up the strength to confront her. Isobel's eyes flashed with regret and guilt before she shoved it away, leaving her stone cold again. "It keeps the memory of my real mother, perfectly intact." She added and I smiled at her.

"Good-bye, Elena." Isobel stated with a short nod before she looked between both of us. "As long as you have a Salvatore on either arm—you're doomed." She warned and I furrowed my eyebrows at her. "Katherine was smart. She got out.. But we all no that you're not Katherine." Isobel stated, looking at Elena who scoffed back at her. Isobel let her gaze fall on me before she sighed and slowly shook her head. "But wow.. Would Katherine be disappointed to hear about you." She added in defeat, making me look at her in confusion before she vamped away.

-Time Skip-

Elena and I walked into Jeremy's room to see him sitting at his desk and I leant in his doorway while Elena stood beside me. "Jeremy, we have to talk about this." I pointed out in defeat.

"No, we really don't." Jer replied, not turning to look at us and I shook my head, looking at Elena.

"I don't know what Anna told you—but there are things that you need to know." Elena started before Jeremy turned towards us and slowly got up from his desk.

"Really?" Jeremy asked, furrowing his eyebrows and folding his arms over his chest. "Because I'm pretty sure that your journal covered it." He added in annoyance and I furrowed my eyebrows at him while Elena's face fell.

"You ready my journal?" Elena asked quietly, obviously hurt at the fact.

"And save me the speech about invasion of privacy because I read a section about Damon erasing my memory, about what happened to Vicki." Jeremy countered with a scoff and I sighed at him.

"Jeremy, please, you don't understand—" Elena started but I cut her off.

"The night that Vicki died, it was like mom and dad died all over again. It was written all over your face and it hurt so much to see you like that again, Jer." I stated, shaking my head at him in defeat while Elena nodded in agreement.

"We just wanted to take away your pain, Jer." Elena added from beside me and I watched as he shook his head back at both of us.

"Just get out." Jeremy stated emotionlessly and I furrowed my eyebrows at him.

"No, Jer, please—" Elena started but I cut her off.

"Elena." I pressed quietly, making her look at me in confusion but Jeremy and I stared at each other intently. "Let's go." I added with a short nod before looking back at her. Elena went to open her mouth in protest but Jer narrowed his eyes at her and she sighed. I grabbed Elena's arm in reassurance before we both walked out of Jeremy's room, leaving him alone.
