A/N Holy crap, thank you so so much for reading this. It only has nine chapters and it's already passed 700 reads, that's amazing. I guess there are a lot of people out there into this stuff, huh. Cool I was starting to think I was strange for writing a book about a serial killer falling in love. Once again I would like to thank you for reading and supporting this story, it really means a lot. Please enjoy this chapter and the rest to come. :)
It was warm in the shop we had managed to slip into, its walls and shelves were full of dusty CDs and vinyls. There were no other people besides us and the freckled boy behind the desk, a comfortable feeling washed over me calming my adrenaline pumped veins. "Why are we here?" Ximena whispered from beside me, probably noticing all the small square figures of the vinyl cases through her weirdo vision.
"Alibi," I whispered back, eyeing the tired employee. The people outside were bound to have seen us walking around so it was too late to use the 'I'm a bit of a loser so I was at home all Friday night' excuse. Our only option was to get this guy to be our witness. "Ximena," She turned her head my way immediately,
"Yes?" I briskly waved my hand in the boy's direction.
"Go distract him," She gave me an unsure look but did as I said, the last time she disobeyed me we had to kill her friend, I'm assuming she's learnt her lesson.
The boy who's chin had previously been resting in his palm, quickly stood to attention when he noticed Ximena walking towards him. His eyes were wide and his freckles now stood out against his pink face. She said something and me began to pathetically stutter out an answer, the pink on his cheeks turning an ugly red. Now was perfect. It wouldn't be long before the flames would be visible from here, I had to be quick.
Running my finger along the shelves, I pretended to be interested in the strangely designed album covers, some were more likeable than others. The ones depicting violence and destruction were much better than the half-naked girl, shirtless boy covered ones. Slowly I shuffled over to a clock located to the right of the desk where Ximena and the boy were. Keeping my eyes glued to them, I unhinged the clock and turned it over. If I was caught we'd have to kill him as well and two bodies looked much worse than one.
3:00. The time the murder was committed we had decided to buy some new music, having a friendly conversation with the employee while we were there. Unnoticed, I hung the clock back on the wall and strode over to the other two people in the room. "Ximena we should go, it's already three," her eyebrows drew together in confusion and her mouth opened.
"We won't make it to our reservation in time if we take any longer," A flash of understanding surges across her face but she still looked uncertain. "Right, did you find anything?" I nodded, placing a random CD I had picked up on the counter.
"Glass animals? Alternative fan?" His question was directed at me but his eyes were still on the stupid girl next to me.
Rage began to boil under my skin, blood bubbling and ready to burn him. "Yeah sure" He sensed my hostility and decided to do the right thing and shut the fuck up,
"What the hell?!" Ximena whipped her head around to see what he was shouting about but I already knew, this was the first time I was letting people see my work. Giddiness was replacing the previous anger, my brain felt like it was on a high. "Someone call the fire department," I spoke out sternly, might as well get in character.
"It's already bee done I think!" The boy replied, yelling unnecessarily. I'm about five metres from you, you prick.
Sirens began screaming and I knew it was time to go and play mister Good Samaritan. "Stay in here, it's safer," He nodded, phone gripped tightly in his hand. Perhaps it would be less suspicious to stay in the shop and pretend to be cautious? Whatever I do, I'll look suspicious so what the fuck?
"Officer, what's going on?" I asked as soon as I stepped outside. He gave me a sideways glance, slightly lowering his pitch black sunglasses. "Arson," he stated, not paying me any more attention.
"Couldn't it have just been faulty wiring?" I was walking on thin ice at this point.
He looked at me once again this time removing his glasses and folding them in the corner of his collar.
"Name?" Sweat covered my palms, and my body grew heavy.
"Why?" I should just go along with what he says.
"Recording the names of everyone present," He spoke in a very matter-of-factly way and I wanted nothing more than to hook him right in the mouth. "Casimir Credence," Further hesitation would not have worked in my favour.
"And your friend?" I hadn't noticed but Ximena was clasping onto the back of my shirt, her face pressed into my back.
This could work. "Sorry sir," I smiled at him before turning to face the cowering girl. "Play along," She nodded,
Taking her by the shoulders, I gently guided her to face the officer. "Xim, this is officer..."
"Jet," he finished for me, eyes set on Ximena, he studied her as if she was a strange animal to be studied. If I didn't hat him before, I definitely did now. I wouldn't mind dragging my precious machete I kept locked up safe down his stomach, his organs spilling out like red strings of confetti.
"Right, he's going to ask us some questions okay?" She nodded once again, glancing around confusedly. She was playing along, if we managed to escape today I would surely reward her. "Hello mam," he cleared his throat, clearly not knowing how to deal with her. "H-hello officer Jett," She was talking just to the right of him, and I could tell he was uncomfortable with her mistake.
"Oh Xim, he's over here" The sugary tone and the nice words I had to spout were making me sick, I want to swallow a bullet. "Ah I'm sorry," She looked down, pink covering her cheeks. I've got to hand it to her, she's a great actor. She may come in useful for future kills. "It's alright, well you have a good day now," The crime going on a few streets from us had completely slipped his mind and panic flashed in his eyes when he noticed how close the flames had gotten.
"You better evacuate," His sunglasses were covering his eyes again and I couldn't help but wonder when he put the, back on.
"Will do, thank you for your work," he nodded before rushing off. A smirk curled along my face, like a cat preparing to nap. "You're a very good girl Xim," I whispered in her ear, shivers and goosebumps racking her body,
"I think you deserve a reward,"
