Randal lay sprawled on his bedroom floor, the remnants of an energetic play session with Sebastian scattered around him. The initial burst of energy had faded, leaving him with a pleasant but slightly depleted feeling. Then, the doorbell rang. His eyes snapped open, widening with a sudden surge of hope. Could it be? Was Y/N really here? A grin spread across his face, chasing away the lingering lethargy.
He practically leaped to his feet, his excitement bubbling over. Bursting into the living room, he spotted her â Y/N, sitting comfortably on the couch, a steaming cup of tea offered by Luther. Luther, however, seemed less than thrilled. "Oh, Randal," he said, his tone oddly robotic, devoid of any warmth or inflection. "I didn't know you had a girlfriend."
Randal's cheeks flushed crimson, a wave of heat spreading across his skin. He offered a cheeky grin, his teeth flashing in the dim light. "U-uh, don't mind my stupid big brother," he stammered, trying desperately to regain his composure. "Come on, let's go see my collection." He gestured towards the hallway, his voice betraying a nervous tremor. The invitation was a desperate attempt to steer the conversation away from the awkward introduction and into the familiar comfort of his own space.
Y/N smiled, a gentle, reassuring expression that eased some of Randal's anxiety. She nodded, her acceptance a balm to his frayed nerves.
"Oh, I'm glad you find this interesting," Randal grinned, carefully holding up one of his cherished dolls. It was an antique porcelain doll, its painted features both strangely creepy and hauntingly beautiful. Time had left its mark â a subtle crack here, a faint discoloration there â yet it held an undeniable charm. "Here," he said, offering the doll to Y/N. "I want you to have this. It means a lot to meâ¦well, most of them do, but this oneâ¦this one really reminds me of you."
Y/Nâs eyes widened in awe. "Oh wow, this isâ¦beautiful," she breathed, genuinely impressed by the dollâs unique and slightly unsettling beauty. Randal, emboldened by her positive reaction, crossed his arms, a pleased nod accompanying her compliment. He was just about to launch into a detailed description of his collection, sharing fascinating anecdotes about each doll's history and unique traits, when he felt a light peck on his cheek.
"I need to go home now," Y/N said softly, a hint of regret in her voice.
Randal froze, the words hanging unspoken in the air. The sudden departure left him stunned, a wave of disappointment washing over him. He stood there, rooted to the spot, the image of Y/Nâs smile lingering in his mind. Then, a strange sensation overcame him. His nose began to run, not with a simple sniffle, but a torrent of blood, staining his cheek. His face flushed, crimson spreading across his skin, a stark contrast to the pale porcelain doll clutched in his hand. The unexpected, overwhelming surge of emotion â a mixture of joy, disappointment, and a strange, almost painful longing â left him breathless and utterly captivated.
