âIâm never going to forgive you for this, Wren. I have so many emotions inside of me I think I might explode. Actually, Iâm moving out.â Kennedy groans, dropping onto the floor.
âIâll be moving out with her,â Scarlett adds, falling to the floor on top of Kennedy. They laugh hysterically as they roll over each other, getting all up in each otherâs personal space.
Iâve just read the latest chapter of Stolen Kingdom to them, and I killed off one of the main love interests, Erik. He was a personal favorite of both of them. I kind of liked him too, but I needed to add some oomph to the story. Itâs been a while since Iâve sat in my room and wrote for hours, and this is the first thing that came to me.
I poke them with my feet from the couch as they squirm.
âYou guys are so dramatic. Heâs not even real,â I say, joining them on the floor.
âHe was real to me!â Kennedy sobs, throwing her hand across her face. âI already fan-cast Austin Butler to play him in the movie.â
âItâs not going to be a movie,â I mutter, and Kennedy pretends to sulk. âIt wonât be anything if I donât have any time to actually finish it.â
Trying to finish a novel is a lot harder than I thought it would be. I thought it would get easier after I finished my first one, but it feels like I just learned how to write yesterday. Some days, I just stare at my empty document and hope that daydreaming about writing will finally get me to write something.
I hardly have time to do anything these days between going to practice, the gym, and having my mom hound me with questions. Not only is she stressing me out about my position on the skating team, but she hasnât heard from Austin in a while, and sheâs started to get worried.
Austin has always been a lone wolf, and Iâve always admired that about her. Sheâs stronger than Iâll ever be, and sheâs doing insanely well for herself in Russia with her boyfriend Zion. The more m y mom stresses out about it, the more I get stressed out. Itâs how we work.
âSpeaking of things that arenât real⦠How are you and Loverboy?â Scarlett asks with a shimmy.
âThings are good. Heâs getting better with training, and I got a ton of Instagram followers. Things are looking up already,â I say proudly.
âCool, but how areâ¦you knowâ¦things?â Scarlett repeats with more emphasis, gesturing suggestively toward my private areas. Kennedy shoots up now, looking at us with expectant eyes, mischief dancing in them.
âWhat sheâs trying to say is, have you fucked him yet?â Ken asks without batting an eye.
âI wasnât going to say âfucked,ââ Scarlett argues, rolling her eyes playfully. I snort. Her face suddenly turns serious. âBut yes, have you?â
âNo, I havenât. And Iâm not going to anytime soon.â I sigh. âBut the sexual frustration is slowly eating away at me. Iâve burned through two sets of batteries for my vibrator in the past two weeks.â
I hate to admit it, but itâs true.
Seeing him nearly every day has not helped the throbbing between my legs. Heâs an attractive guy, and we have to go to the gym together. Listening to him grunt and groan is not making this any easier. Heâs hot, and he knows he is. And for a girl who has been involuntarily celibate for almost nine months, it is not going well for me.
âYou dirty bitch,â Scarlett mocks, her face wide in a smile. I shove my face between my hands. âYou need to sleep with someone and quick. It doesnât even have to be with Miles. It isnât in your contract, is it?â
I lift my face up to them. âTechnically itâs not, but I donât want to do that. It feels too close to cheating, and I feel like Iâd have to tell him, and it would be a whole thing.
â
âSo youâre going to mount that tragic vibrator every night until you canât afford batteries anymore,â Kennedy says, scrunching her face up.
âPretty much. At least it can make me come,â I say, getting up from the floor.
We all burst out laughing until our stomachs hurt. Kennedy is the slapper, hitting us until weâre basically bruised while she laughs hard. Iâm the one with the wheeze, and Scarlett just sounds like an evil baby genius.
âPoor Augustus,â Scarlett says between her hysterical laughter. I remember coming home from staying over at Gusâs and telling them how tragic it was that he tried to go down on me and absolutely nothing was happening. I thought I was broken or something, but it just turns out he didnât know what he was doing with his tongue. I canât believe I spent years faking orgasms for that man.
My phone starts to ring beside me, and I see my dadâs caller ID, so I wave my hand around to keep them quiet.
âHi, Dad.â
âWrenny! I thought I wouldnât be able to get hold of you with how busy you were the last time I called,â my dad replies, being the drama queen he is.
I laugh. âI had to go to class, Dad. Iâm not busy now. Whatâs up?â
âYour Miles is still coming to my event, right?â he asks.
My Miles.
I donât know why my heart stutters at the way he says that. Miles isnât mine in any way, but sometimes it feels like he is. Something shifted the other day at the rink, and knowing that weâve got each otherâs backs in a purely platonic and friendly way is helping me put that barrier up between us. When I get looks around campus or comments on my post, I feel a weird sense of pride that I get to call Miles mine in front of the world.
âYeah, heâs coming,â I say .
âGreat! Iâve sorted out the room, so I hope he can make it. If not, itâs totally fine. I understand how you kids are these days, but Iâd love to meet him,â he says. I shake my head, and I wish he could see me rolling my eyes right now. âIâve got you a luxury suite, so you donât have to worry about sleeping in different beds. Thereâll be one big enough for you to share.â
âYeah, Dad. About that. We donât need to share a bed becauseâ ââ
âWren,â he presses. âI want you to know that I trust you. And I know that you and your mom butt heads, but I donât want that for us. If you and your boyfriend want to cuddle, who am I to stop you? As long as youâre being safe, thatâs all that matters.â
âDad, seriously, you didnât have to go to all that trouble,â I say. âTwo beds are fine.â
âYou deserve this freedom, Wrenny.â
âBut, Dadââ I try again, but he cuts me off.
âWren. Itâs settled.â
âMom would never do this,â I murmur.
âGood thing Iâm not your mom. Isnât it, kiddo?â he adds before cutting the call on me.
âWhat did Daddy Hacks want?â Scarlett asks, beaming up at me.
âStop calling him that, itâs gross.â I shudder, and they both laugh. Itâs even stupider that they use Hackerly as his last name even though itâs my momâs. My dadâs surname is tragic, and I like to pretend that it doesnât exist. âHe was just double-checking that Miles is coming with me to that event.â
Scarlettâs eyes go wide. âHe is?â
âYeah.â They exchange a look, and I sigh. âDonât be weird about it.â
âWeâre not being weird,â Kennedy says, âI mean, the two of you are going to be in a hotel for a night. The possibilities are endless.
â
âYeah, I say buy a cute lingerie set and flash him before you go to bed,â Scarlett suggests.
I bark out a laugh. âIâm not doing that.â
âYou should so do that,â Ken adds. âHeâd lose his fucking mind.â
âI donât know about you, Ken, but ifâand I mean ifâI were ever to sleep with him, Iâd want his mind intact.â
She shrugs. âI wouldnât. I like my men a little tortured and miserable.â
Scarlettâs grin turns evil. âI like mine a little pathetic and a lot rich.â
We all burst into a fit of giggles. âWhat the fuck is wrong with us?â I ask, trying to catch my breath.
âI donât know. You started it,â Kennedy says, swiping a tear from her eye.
The next thing I know, weâre all involved in a very intense case of whodunnit, shouting âjâaccuse!â at any given moment and rolling on the floor in laughter.
I couldnât think of anyone else Iâd rather laugh at stupid shit with.
