I sucked in a deep breath before stepping into the office. I decided against meeting Mr Anas, I should learn to deal with my problems not run away.
In a small voice, I whispered a salam without looking up. I dusted my desk which was obviously clean. Was just tryna make things less awkward.
I worked on one of our apps that was misbehaving due to a virus for two hours straight. By 10:30, I rose from my very comfy chair to grab a bottle of coke and a snack maybe.
The restaurant opposite Smart Minds was literally filled up but I managed to get an empty table which was at the entrance. It was awkward eating there cox it had transparent glass walls.
"Hey! Mind me joining you?" I looked up from my phone to find Mr Anas already making himself comfortable on the chair facing me.
"You were supposed to wait for an answer Mr CEO" I rolled my eyes and put my phone aside.
"I've never seen you here" he replied instead
"Yeah, first time. I wanted to try something new" that was a lie. I didn't want to go to the cafe inside the company. I was hundred percent sure that I would bump into Muhsin and his guys. And as always they'll end up teasing me about something that ended the day before yesterday.
Forgot to mention how grateful I am that Muhsin didn't come up to talk. Though he just made it clear that he was just playing around.
"You've started your healing process kenan"
" Healing what?"
"The break up? You and Muhsin? Does it ring a bell?" he chuckled lightly
"Ohhhh! How did you know though? Oh wait!! Do you stalk me?" I asked with a raised voice. Pretty sure some heads were turned to see if everything was fine.
"Me? Stalk you? oh please!" he dismissed with his hands in a girlish way. Okay his sister's behavior is surely rubbing off him.
"Then?" I probed
"The news was flying around"
"Okay wow. Break up hurts! Don't ever fall in love" I advised instead. I don't have the strength to think about how people are talking about me right now. Or gossiping about me rather.
"Thanks for the tip" he laughed and took the last bite of his shawarma.
"Catch you later"
"Okay. I'll stay here for a bit before leaving" I waved at him while he left.
I watched a few YouTube videos before going back to my desk. A few which took 30mins of my time!
I decided to close by 2pm today since we practically had nothing to do. Besides the app I was working on would take me a few days before it gets fixed.
Muhsin's car came to a stop where I stood waiting for my Bolt driver. He rolled down his window and observed me with a smile. That monster!
"Let me drop you off please"
Bombastic side eye!!
"Can we sit and talk about the day before yesterday?"
Criminal offensive side eye!!
At that moment, a light blue Toyota Matrix pulled up a few feet away from Muhsin's SUV.
I briskly walked to the car while confirming the plate number without sparing Muhsin another glance.
"Good afternoon ma'am" the driver greeted looking over at me.
"Afternoon "
"Can we go?" he asks while attaching his device to the phone mount. I replied in affirmative and we hit the road in no time.

"Amma guy dinnan bayi da mutunci" Lady S laments. Muhsin was already in her black book. She was so angry when I filled her in on my first boyfriend palava.
My bolt driver dropped me at Sarah's earlier.
It was past 5pm and I wasn't planning on going home anytime soon.
Lady S decided to make a smoothie for us while I watched her do it.
She cut the watermelon into the blender then added ice, lemon juice and a reasonable amount of milk.
After it got mixed, she poured zobo into two cups then put in her watermelon mix into the cup. After handing me a straw, she pushed one of the cups to me and then settled beside me on the kitchen counter.
"Your watermelon and zobo smoothie is served mademoiselle!" She says with a slight bow.
I took a long sip and gave her a thumbs up after it hit my taste buds.
"Not bad miss" I teased.
My phone pinged, cutting through the silence we were enjoying.
I quickly checked because it's not normal for me to receive a message.
"SubhanAllahi!! The nerve of this beast!" I whispered in horror. Sarah quickly dropped her glass that was now empty and motioned for me to hand her the phone.
She gasped loudly before reading Muhsin's text aloud
"Hello to the most beautiful lady in Smart Mindsð
I know you have a lot questions swirling in your mind and I'm about to clear that.
First of all, I'm deeply sorry for what I've made you go through.
The thing is I was dared by my guys to approach you and make you fall in love with me.
They think you're unapproachable and so I was put up to the task.
Look, I have no idea how this made you feel but once again I'm super sorry for the damage.
We were almost there, you know....you confessing your love to me but your dad had to cut it short.
I hope we can still be friends cox I've discovered how amazing you are as a human "
" I don't see him saying he regrets it?! And I never knew men who are cowards still exist! Oh wait, did I just say men? This Muhsin right here is a boy. Fau allow me to call him and give him a piece of my mind. I'm gonna insult him and his ancestors. Kaii amma wallahi he doesn't deserve his name. Mtschwwww" Lady S almost threw away my phone while ranting. That was the least of my problems though.
I don't know what to feel exactly. There are way too many emotions that are strangling me.
I feel used.
I feel so embarrassed
He just made a fool out of me.
I'm about to die of shame.
I wish I could forget who I am.
Wait a moment!
What about the first day he offered to drive me home? Was it part of the plan too?
"Sarah! Just stop please" I pleaded. She was still ranting in the background while my thoughts consumed me.
"I'm sorry you're going through this" she wrapped me in her embrace and I freed the tears that were threatening to fall.
"I.. I'll be leaving" I let go of her and grabbed my veil from the living room.
"Let me drop you toh. Please don't overthink this I know you"
I leaned on one of her couches as I watched her disappear into her room.
Don't overthink?
I surely will. I can't help it.
