Keep smiling, it's Sunnah 🌚

Fauzeeyah

Last two weeks was hectic. Hectic should be an understatement. Bappa Sadu's new wife was delivered to our house. You can let your imagination run wild.

There was confusion, disagreements, disappointment and dare I forget the fire the Amarya's family came with?

They were pure Hausa from Kano. Their Ture kaga tsiya was tied to perfection and their Hausa, polished to the T.

Anyways, we observed as they went about in our house serving themselves the jollof rice we cooked. Bappa Sadu pleaded with Amma last minute to cook for the guests. As they went about serving themselves, 'ubanki' was thrown around as though it was common as water.

Fast-forward to today, I quickly wrapped my veil to cover my chest before leaving the house. Ilham offered to take Umar to school and I was so thankful for that. I was terribly late for work.

The bolt I ordered was waiting outside the gate so I hopped in. Within twenty minutes, he dropped me off at Smart Minds. I noticed as I walked inside that the building stood out amongst others in that neighborhood.

My time here has been good really. It's been practically a month already. Mr Anas reviewed my application with other workers in Smart Minds. They couldn't stop gushing over how good it was. However he made me understand some stuff had to be edited and some had to be replaced with something better. Apparently if that is not done, there was a high chance of the app been attacked by a virus or it could have a major problem along the way which would need recoding to take place.

" Hello Miss Fauziyyah! " The receptionist, Firdausi greeted from her desk, pulling me out of my train of thoughts.

"Good morning Firdausi." I waved from where I stood. I resumed my walk when she waved back. Remembering how filled this company was with young people always brought a smile to my face.

I took the lift to the CEO'S office in order to collect I file I had to work on. Yes I'm a pro at this lift thingy if you haven't noticed.

"Assalamualaikum" I greeted when he allowed me in after I knocked.

"Waalaykumus salam, Fauzeeya" The way he pronounced my name sounded so Arab and British like. For the first time, the wrong pronunciation of my name didn't upset me.

"I see you're late. Well done kinji" He said when I was about to collect the file from his hold. He didn't sound serious but his face held no mirth too. I let out a sheepish smile before heading out.

My smile fell immediately I approached my table. I looked over the two senseless beings seated opposite my table. They both had their eyes on their systems, pretending to act oblivious to the mess they created.

"What happened here?" I asked, as calmly as I could.

"Am I not talking to you two?" I screamed slamming the file on the  table beside mine.

They didn't flinch despite my loud voice.

I fixed my bag that was threatening to fall from my shoulder before leaving the office to the CEO.

"Excuse me, sir. I need a change of office." I went straight to the point the moment he let me in.

"What led to this decision Miss Fauzeeyah?" He asks while he gestured for me to sit on one of the couches.

" I'm not comfortable with those you put me with. They're always getting on my nerves."

" Try sorting things out. Sit and talk with them Fauzeeyah "

" Things are unsortable with them sir" I complained wiping my face with my palms. He chuckled before standing up to his feet.

"Did I say something funny? Please get me a new office. I fear those devils would make me run mad soon." I stood up too, squaring my gaze on him, my eyes pleading to be understood.

This time around he let out a full blown laughter. "I would love to see a Fauzeeyah that's out of her mind."

I guess that was supposed to be a joke but I found myself not laughing.

"Okay fine. I hope you won't complain about working with men?"

"It should be better than being with hypocrites."

"Follow me then."

We arrived at the eighth floor, took confusing turns before he opened a glass door and allowed me to go in first.

So gentlemanly.

There were two guys working with a hundred percent focus on their laptops; they didn't notice our presence. Or they didn't care to look up.

Mr Anas clapped his hands twice to grab their attention. They rise from their seats immediately.

"Glad to see you're working hard. Where's James?"

"He'll be back shortly.... oh there he is!" Said James walked in and greeted Mr Anas before standing by his table, I guess.

"Alright, since you all are here, I brought a new member. I hope the four of you work together to promote the status of Smart Minds. Get back to work." He briefly said and left. Too brief if you ask me.

I introduced myself and they did the same. James, Sadiq and Muhsin.

Muhsin who seemed to be the talkative showed me to an empty table. He was so nice he told me to not sit until he cleaned it with a rag. I brought out my laptop and placed it on the now sparkling glass table. Everything was practically made of glass here.

It felt like I was given a promotion. Not just because of the office made of glass. My previous office is on the third floor. But look at me now, on the eighth floor.

I hope I have a good time here. If I don't, I won't hesitate to ask for a change of office.

I let my eyes sweep over the office. My table was at the far end of the office by the right. One has to walk deeper into the office to notice me. Just great! I'm loving this already.
