Nishtha
2 days passed in a blur. Day before yesterday was the mehendi and it was a beautiful event.
We all sat at the Nanda house and I was running around constantly until Yuvaan finally sat me down and asked me to put the mehendi on my hand. I sat and did as he said while he sat down next to me and was feeding me as the lady put mehendi on me.
It was silent until Yuvaan took the cone from her hand and wrote a Y on my hand, and now as I saw it, I have a dark Y on my hand, right where my ring is. Likewise, he also has a N on his palm, where he decided to write a N.
I was blushing.
Big time.
Now, I was getting dressed in a pastel pink regal saree, which covered me modestly but has a little back showing along with a little chest - but no cleavage was shown. Of course not.
I did my makeup, wearing the same lipstick Yuvaan got me, and my hair was half tied from 2 small braids going from left to middle and right to middle, all connected by a small clip in the middle. My kajal adorned my light brown eyes and my hair was wavy, the caramel curls were flowing elegantly.
I was about to put my earrings on when I saw Yuvaan walk in. He closed the door and his eyes fell on mine. I noticed his eyes widen and I felt a blush coming. I looked down as he came towards me, stood behind me and looked at me through the mirror. I had a wave of shivers.
"What happened?" I managed to say.
I looked at him. He looked so good. He had the same pastel pink color sherwani matching my saree. He looked like royalty.
"I'm just looking at how lucky I am." He said as he played with the pallu of my saree.
I blushed, "Don't disturb me. I'm already getting late."
I tried to move but he caught my hand, "Mrs Nanda, you look mesmerizing. The show can't start without you."
"It's not my show - it's your sister's wedding."
"Our sister - and you're the daughter-in-law of the Nanda's. You think your presence is unnoticeable? We aren't starting without you."
"In that case," I said, giving him a small smile, "I need to get ready even faster, so let me go."
He chuckled, "I'm not even holding you. How do I let you go?"
"You know what I mean? Let me get ready."
"Get ready. I'm here." He said and I chuckled.
I got my earring and watched him look at me through the mirror. "Yuvaan! I'm not able to focus with you looking at me like this!"
He chuckled, "I see," he said got the earring from my hand, "Well I can't stop staring, so I'll help you instead."
He quickly made me wear my earring on both my ears as I watched him focus. Then, he looked at me asking what's next. I pointed at the bindi kept on the table. He took it and quickly placed it on my forehead. Then, I stepped away.
"You're ready." He said and smiled.
I looked at him, then looked at the table, took out a small box and gave it to him, "Almost."
He opened the box and smiled.
Sindoor.
The same sindoor I used to run away from, now I want my husband to put it on for me.
"My honor ma'am!" He chuckled and took a pinch of sindoor and applied it to the middle partition of my hair.
Then, he looked at the table, "Are you ready for....?" I saw him looking at the mangalsutra kept on the table.
Was I ready?
Of course I was. Who am I kidding?
I smiled and nodded. Seeing my nod, he lifted it up and turned me around. Then, he took my hair and moved it to the side as he adjusted the mangalsutra around my neck.
I smiled, "Now I'm ready."
We looked at each other through the mirror. It was amazing. We looked so good. I was about to leave when he caught my hand and pulled me back, "Wait a second."
He took his phone out and gestured me to look at the mirror. Then, he took his camera app out and spoke, "Smile darling."
I chucked at his antics and smiled at the mirror as he took a selfie of us.
Once he clicked it, I grabbed his phone to see it.
"Looks nice." I said, analyzing my look.
"You really do." He said, his voice hazy.
I looked at him, "I... I think we need to go down now, we're already very late. Chalo." I grabbed his hand and we stepped out.
The garden was beautifully decorated with a big gazebo to host the nuptials. The mandap was set and the groom was performing his part of the rituals while Maa was with Vamika. Yuvaan and I attended the guests until we heard the Pandit Ji call to bring the bride.
I smiled and went inside where I saw Vami sit with Maa. I went in the room, "It's time."
Maa looked at me, "Nishu! Wow! You look very nice." Then she turned to Vamika, "Lets go."
Vamika smiled, "Coming. You go ahead Mom, I'll come with Bhabhi."
Maa nodded and went, after touching my cheeks in admiration. I smiled as she left, then I looked at Vamika, who walked to me.
"Are you ready?" I asked her.
"I don't know." She said, nervous.
"What do you mean? The wedding is outside babe, you can't not be sure now!" I said.
"No no! I'm sure of Dhruv. I'm just scared of if I'll be a good wife. I know that marriage isn't easy and I don't want to disappoint him. I'm just... a little scared and nervous, Bhabhi."
I smiled at her, "That's alright. I was as well, and my wedding was literally done weirdly. It's with my ex-boyfriend. You are toh marrying your current boyfriend. Trust me, the nervousness you are feeling is completely alright - but I'll tell you one thing, when you see him there today, ready to be yours, all the fear is going to go. You will feel completely fine, and you will fall in love with him all over again as you start this new chapter of your lives together. All I'll say to you is that trust him. Trust is the foundation of any relationship. Just trust him and it'll be good!"
Vamika smiled at me, "Thank you, Di."
"Now come on, your groom is waiting!" I said and led her outside as we went to the garden.
I watched her calm down as we entered the garden and watched all eyes on us. I looked at her and nodded, to reassure her, and she smiled at me as we reached the mandap and I sat her down next to Dhruv. Dhruv also smiled at me and I held his shoulder for a second and smiled before going back to Yuvaan.
I watched them do their rituals and stand up for the phere. I watched them take the 7 rounds around the fire and then watched him adorn her with sindoor and a mangalsutra.
I had tears in my eyes.
Yuvaan held my hand and I smiled at him.
Once the wedding ended, I bid a sad farewell to Vamika and she left to her new home. I held Maa, and soon everyone had relaxed.
We were having a family dinner along with the rest of the guests as we finished the last ritual of the wedding which is done after the bride goes.
All the guests were eating said was standing by the garden, watching everyone, making sure everything is fine when suddenly I felt someone behind me. I turned around.
Manish Verma.
What's he doing here?
