Chapter 12: Practice

I Was Enchanted to Meet YouWords: 12315

Nika POV

I woke up to the sunlight shining through the blinds, lighting up the room. I looked down at Tate. Peaceful. She seemed so at peace, I didn't want to wake her up, but I needed to get up for practice in an hour. I try to remove myself from the bed without waking her, but failed miserably.

"No, I don't want you to leave," Tate mumbles out, sleep heavy in her voice, "You're comfy."

I chuckle, "Well, I'm glad I could help you sleep."

"So you'll stay longer?"

"I gotta get ready for practice pretty girl," I run my hands through her hair, she cuddles in closer to me.

"10 more minutes."

"Bab-"

"5 minutes," She sits up a bit to look me in the eyes, "Please."

"Fine, 5 minutes, than I really gotta get up," She smiles, laying back down, her head in the crook of my neck.

Silence fills the room, I take my shot to ask her something that's been on my mind, "Hey Tate?"

"Hmm," She moves to look up at me.

"I know we've only really talked for a couple days or whatever but I was..." I pause, "I was wondering if you'd be my girlfriend?"

Tate jumps up, "Are you serious? Oh my god, yes, yes," She pauses, "Wait was that to much of a reaction? Do I look desperate?"

I laugh, "No, I loved your reaction. Honestly, it made me feel a lot better."

"How so?"

"You wanna be with me almost as much as I wanna be with you."

She giggles, falling back down on top me, hugging me, "I'm so glad you asked..." She pauses looking back at me, "What'd you mean by almost?"

"I really, really wanna be with you. You really wanna be with me. I got that extra 'really'."

"Shut up, I really, really, really wanna be with you," She playfully smacks my arm, laying back down.

"Sure pretty girl, whatever you say."

We laid there longer than I should've, just holding each other. This woman is gonna be the death of me, talked to her for two days and I already asked her out.

"Baby,  I need to get up," I say trying to get escape her grasp.

"Fine, I guess you can go."

I grabbed my things and went into the bathroom to get dressed. I come back to Tate sitting on my bed, scrolling on her phone.

"I was thinking," I say, pulling her gaze from her phone to myself, "You wanna come watch me at practice?"

"Can I even do that?"

"I mean, I can ask coach. I doubt he'll say no," I shrug, she walks over to me.

My hands land on her waist, pulling her towards me. Her arms snake around my neck. We just stand there for a minute, smiling like idiots. I lean down to place a small kiss on her lips.

"I could stand here all day," She whispers.

"Me too," I pull away, reluctantly, "So, you wanna?"

"Sure, can we just stop by my dorm real quick? I don't wanna look a mess."

"I mean, you could just borrow some of my clothes?"

She tilts her head, "I could, how much time you have til you gotta be at practice?"

I pull out my phone, "28 minutes."

"I'll just borrow some of your clothes. I don't wanna make you late to practice."

I move to my closet, pulling out a hoodie and a pair of sweats, "These should work. Plus, I think you'd look pretty in my clothes."

Blush coats her face, "Shut up, I'm gonna throw this on really quick."

She rushes towards the bathroom, coming out a few seconds later. She spins around showing off the outfit.

"How I look?"

"Amazing," I move towards her, grabbing her waist, "You do look good in my clothes, I wonder how you-"

Knocking fills the room, causing both Tate and I to jump. I walk over to the door, Paige.

"Twin, hurry or we gonna be late for practice," Paige turns to leave, but her head snaps back, "Tate, didn't know you were still here?"

"Yeah, we fell asleep while watching TV."

"Sure twin," She leaves, but yells back, "See ya at practice!"

I move my eyes from where Paige was to Tate, she was smirking, already looking at me, "What were you gonna say, ya know, before Paige interrupted?"

"Nothing, don't worry about it," I smile, trying to shake the feeling her gaze left me.

"You sure, cause you sounded like you wanted to sa-"

"Alright, let's go," I say, covering her mouth. I feel her smile, before leaving a kiss on my palm.

"I still wanna know what you were going to say."

"I guess will never know."

Tate POV

Watching Nika in practice, oh my god. The way she moves on the court, mesmerizing. I didn't understand a thing when it came to basketball, but I would watch it all day if it meant watching my now girlfriend on the court. Girlfriend. Nika Muhl was my girlfriend.

I needed to tell Ava, which I should probably tell Ava that I'm alive and not dead in a ditch somewhere. I open my messages, finding that Ava texted me last night and I responded. Well, Nika responded.

Tate: Just wanted to let you know I'm alive and well

Incoming call from Ava.

"Hey, Ava. What's up."

"You weren't going to tell me you were staying over at Nika's?"

"I honestly didn't plan on staying. But...I'm kinda glad I did."

"Spill. Now."

"Well, after a night of cuddling, watching movies, eating Burger King, and simply just talking, we fell asleep."

"And?"

"We woke up in each others arms, when she looked me in my eyes, and..and"

"Girl, stop with the stalling, just tell me."

"She asked me to be her girlfriend."

"What!?"

"I said yes."

"Tate, that's awesome. Soon, but awesome!"

"You honestly have no room to talk. Miss sleep with the star player the first night."

"Okay, I asked you to never bring that up again."

"Sorry, but you can't go back on the past."

"I wouldn't change that past either, look where I am. A good relationship, and I helped you get in a relationship."

"I guess so."

"Where you at right now?"

"The gym."

"Why?"

"Watching Nika practice."

"Is she hot during practice?"

"Ava!"

"I'm sure she is, and that's why you seem so flustered. Your face is redder then the color red."

"Okay, maybe she is, but that never leaves from between us."

"What stays between you two?" Nika asks, walking towards me, whipping her towel on her face.

"Nothing."

"She thinks you're hot while practicing!"

"Ava! Bye," And with that I hung up on my best friend, ready for whatever teasing came from Nika.

Nika makes her way beside me, "Stick out your hand."

"Why?" My face contorts with confusion.

"Please lijep, just do it," I roll my eyes, sticking out my hand.

"Here," She places a piece of gum in my hand.

"Thanks Niks," She smiles, earning a smile from me.

"Last time I was chewing gum, you asked for one. So I decided to bring you one," I laugh, she blushes.

"You're cute," I say, grabbing her hand.

"And hot during practice, well according to your friend," My turn to blush.

"That was nothing," She pouts, sticking out her lower lip.

"So you don't think I'm hot?"

"No, that's not... Nika,"

"Yes baby," The nickname sending chills down my body.

"Do I have to speak about what I said to Ava?"

"Yes baby, I wanna know," She moves closer to my ear, whispering, "Does me sweating, all hot and out of breath do something to you?"

"Nika."

She leans back, not so much in my face, "Hmm."

"I...I-" She shushes me.

"It's alright, I get it, I leave you speechless," She leans in, pressing a soft kiss to my lips, "I like you all flustered. It's cute."

She runs back to the court, running backwards, sending a kiss and a wink my way. All I could manage was an awkward smile. God this woman.

I press the contact of someone I needed to talk too.

"Ava! I swear I'm gonna kill you!"

"Why? And why are you so red? Did she hear me say you thought she was hot during practice?"

"Yes, and that's the very reason I'm going to kill you."

"Okay, chill. What happened?"

"She leaned in my ear saying, 'Does me sweating, all hot and out of breath do something to you.' Like, duh. You're hot and I wanna have you kiss me, and not just on the lips."

"Okay, that was a lot."

"Yeah, I know."

"I mean, what she said was a lot, but so was the info you gave me at the end. Like sure, you're 'feeling things' but I don't need to know them."

"You got me into this, you gonna hear everything."

"Fine, but I gotta go. Try not to drag your jaw on the ground!"

Before I could say anything else, she ended the call. I looked back on the court, watching Nika bring the ball up the court. The way her ponytail swayed from side to side, her face mixed with concentration and happiness. Playing basketball makes her happy, I wondered what about it made her seem so free while she played. I looked down at my phone, searching for a distraction from the girl on the court. And to answer Nika's question from before, yes, it did things. That's exactly why I needed the distraction.

------------------------------------------------------------------

"Hey, you,"I said, pulling Nika into a hug. She had just got done showering, her hair down and wet.

"Hey, pretty girl. You wanna go grab something to eat?"

"Sure, but can I ask you one thing?" We started heading towards her car, she opened my door, letting me in. Then opened the back door throwing her bag in the back.

Once she got in the car, she asked, "What is it you wanna ask?"

"What about basketball makes you so happy? I mean, you seem so carefree while playing. It's almost motivational."

She laughs, "Well, I'm glad you see my happiness motivates you. And to answer that question, I just love basketball. It's like all my problems and worries are gone once I step on the court. Well, minus the fact I'm trying to win a game."

Her accent kept slipping when she spoke, "Seeing you happy, it makes me happy."

"Aww, don't get like that with me," I laugh.

"Why not? I mean seeing you on the court, it just, I don't know. I can't explain it," She moves closer to me, a mere inch away from my face.

"You don't have to bebo, I think I get what you're trying to say," She smirks.

"Okay, I wasn't talking about it like that. Niks, get your head out the gutter," I laugh.

She shrugs, leaning back and starting the car, "Sure, but I do get what you mean. You like seeing someone do something they love."

"Exactly."

"Even if they're all sweaty and turning you on at the same time," I snap my head towards her.

"Nika!" I smack her arm.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. But tell me I'm wrong," She waits a second, "Exactly."

The rest of the drive was filled with singing and talking, just little things. We choose to grab some subs, and made our way back to her car.

"Hey, you mind if I play some music?"

"Of course not," She disconnects her phone, allowing me to connect mine, "There you go Ta."

So High School by Taylor Swift comes on, Nika rolls her eyes, "Really, Taylor Swift?"

"Yes, really. Plus, this songs reminds me of us," Her brows quirk up.

"How so?"

"I'm smart and all that, you play basketball. Fits the song perfectly," I shrug, earning a laugh from her.

"There's no way you just compared us to a Taylor Swift song?"

"I did, and stop complaining. I know you think it's cute," I say, scrolling through songs to find the next one.

"I think you're cute."

I feel the blush coat my cheeks, "You gotta stop saying things like that."

"Why," She pouts, "You don't like it?"

"No, I like it a lot."

"Than why should I stop," She leans closer, her lips ghosting mine.

"I take it back, don't stop."

She smirks, leaning in to pull our lips into a soft kiss. I bring my hand to the back of her neck, pulling her closer. Her hand comes up to cup my face, deepening the kiss. I can think of nothing but the way she looked during practice. The way her face and body were soaked with sweat, and...and-

I pulled away, "Nika?"

"Is everything okay, Ta?"

"Yeah, just we should go find somewhere to eat. I mean we did just buy some subs," I rub the back of my neck with the hand that was once on the back of her neck.

"Yeah, yeah," She seemed flustered, her face red once she starts to car to drive us somewhere, which she wouldn't tell me, "I'm starving. And I'm sure you are too, bebo."

"Yeah, I am," Awkward tension filled the car, with silent playing of Taylor Swift in the back.

A/N: Okay guys, the drama book is in the works. One chapter already written, a second chapter half-way written. But something in me was telling me I wanted to write this chapter. And that feeling was right, I actually love this chapter.

Also, I love Tate and Nika with everything in me. Do y'all think they're moving too fast? Like was it too soon to make them girlfriends?

Anyways, I might write more for this one tonight. I might not. But enjoy!

Peace y'all, 'til the next chapter
