Chapter 16: No Big Deal

I Was Enchanted to Meet YouWords: 10175

Nika POV

This morning just proved to me that everything in my life was perfect. I had a chance to get drafted into the W this year, I played on a basketball team that treated me like I was apart of their family, and there was Tate. The most amazing person to enter my life. She was all I could think about, everything about her. The way she laughed, her smile, the way she did her hair....

"Earth to Nika," Paige waved her hand in front of my face, "You okay, twin?"

"More than okay," I smile, thinking again about Tate, "My life feels perfect, like everything is going so well."

"That's great," She moves her head to look over at Geno, "But I think you might wanna get your head back into practice. Geno's been in a mood all week."

"What? Why?" I ask, moving to look at Geno.

"I don't know, but I think he's just being Geno, just extra Geno-y," Paige shrugs, "But let's get moving before we become a victim to his geno-ness."

I laugh, "Okay, but can I ask you something?"

"Of course, Niks," She pats my shoulder, "What do ya wanna ask?"

"Do you think Tate and I are gonna last forever?"

Her face twist in shock, "You meet her like, a couple of days ago. You started dating like, yesterday. And you're already worried about forever?"

I sigh, "I mean, I think she's my person, my soulmate. I think she's everything to me."

"Dude," Paige stops, making me stop with her, "Maybe try to take things slow. I feel like you're wanting her to be your person, especially after your last relationship."

I shake my head, "No, we don't talk about him. That's in the past. I don't wanna bring it up."

"Okay, okay," She puts her hands up, surrendering, "I'm just saying. After him, you put yourself back together. You told yourself you weren't ever gonna be with anyone else because of him. I think you just want her to be the one so you don't have to go through another tough breakup."

"Paige, as much as I love that you really care about me, and how much you think you know me, but this...that I have with Tate...it's gotta be real. I just feel it."

"Okay, if you believe so," She pauses, "I think you guys are perfect for each other."

"But do you think it's gonna last?"

"I could only hope," She lets a small smile rest on her lips, leaving to find a ball.

I stood there, just thinking. Was it too soon for me to think about forever? I mean, anything could happen. I think I'm thinking to much into this.

I get a pat on the shoulder, jumping with the contact. I turn around to see Geno, confusion apparent on his face.

"You alright kid," I nod my head, "Are you sure, you seem out of it?"

"I'm just thinking about something, it's kinda been the only thing on my mind," I say, getting a nod from him.

"Do you wanna talk about?"

"No, I'm good, it's nothing bad, honestly the opposite," I say.

"Okay," He pauses, "Get back to practicing then."

"Yes, sir," I say, running off to find Paige again.

Tate POV

"Ava, the texts keep coming," I look over at my best friend, she's making something for us to eat.

"Did you tell Nika?" Ava's cooking comes to a stop, "Please tell me you told Nika."

I look down, "No, but in my defense, it wasn't really saying anything about her. I was just gonna ignore it."

"What do you mean, 'not really saying anything'?" Ava continues her cooking, glancing at me every once in awhile.

"Well, it did kinda say something, but it never used Nika's name," I scratch at the back of my neck.

"What did it say?"

"It said like, you and your little girlfriend aren't going to last, or something," I look down at the plate that she just placed in front of me.

"You should've told Nika," She shovels the food into her mouth, "God I'm a great cook."

"Ava, do you think it's too late to tell her?"

"No, but it might hurt her a little," Confusion making its way to my face.

"What'd you mean?"

"You didn't come to her, you know, like you're supposed to. I mean, this exact situation happened when Paige and I started dating."

"Wait, really? Did you figure out who it was?"

"No," She says bluntly, "I told Paige, then we blocked them."

"That's so smart."

"It's called common sense, maybe you try using it," I smack at her arm, causing her to gasp.

"I just cooked for you and gave you great advice," She rubs her arm, "Maybe you shouldn't be hitting me."

"Whatever," I open the text, more reading through them, "What do I do? Do I just block them, or do I see what they want?"

"Whatever you think you should do, but definitely tell Nika," She shoves another bite into her mouth.

"Okay, I might tell her after practice," I sit there, silence filling between us, "How hurt do you think she'll be?"

"Tate, I swear, I love you, but god," She places her hand on my knee, "Just tell her, the longer you wait, the more hurt she's gonna be."

"Okay, okay. I'll tell her when she picks me up," I turn my phone off, wanting to delete the messages from my mind.

"You never told me what the messages are saying," Ava stands up, walking back into the kitchen.

"It's just bad things about Nika and her past relationship," I turn my phone back on, seeing a new message, "Like, this one says, that she used him to make her look good, like I don't believe it."

"Do you believe any of the messages? Or at least, I don't know, question them?"

"I mean, some of them, I guess," I throw my phone back on the table, "I don't know, it's stupid, but it's still there in the back of my mind."

"What is, Tate?"

"That Nika doesn't really love me," She gasp, "I know, I know. It's just a little voice in the back of my head telling me this, but what if it's true?"

Ava laughs, "Girl, have you seen the way Nika looks at you? I can't tell if she loves you or if she wants to make you her lunch...and you know what I mean."

I get up, slap her arm, and make my way back to my seat, "Dude, don't say stuff like that!"

"What, that she loves you? Or that she wants to make you he-" A piece of food makes it's way across the room, hitting Ava in the face.

"Shut up, there's no way she thinks of me like that. Not yet at least," That was a lie, I've seen the way Nika looks at me, she was totally right.

"If you don't see it, you're blind," She walks away, leaving me there with my thoughts.

New message

"Ughh, god, I need this to stop," I open the message, not even trying to read it.

Tate: Why are you texting me?

UN: Because, I want you to know the truth

Tate: and what exactly is that?

UN: Nika's not right for you

Tate: I think she's perfect for me

UN: You wouldn't be saying that if you knew her like I do

I let out a sigh, of course they know her. That narrows it down, but it could still be anyone.

Tate: Who are you?

UN: You can't know that

I laugh, there's no way.

Tate: Why not?

UN: Because you wouldn't listen to me if you knew

Tate: I'm not listening to you now

UN: You will once I tell you what she's been doing

Tate: She's with me, like all the time, she's not doing anything

I could feel my heart racing, what if, what they're getting ready to tell me is true, what am I going to do.

UN: She's talking to other girls behind your back

Tate: She wouldn't

UN: Oh but she is

Tate: You're just saying that

UN: You wish

UN: You just want some fairytale ending to your so cute love story

Tate: Who are you?

UN: You're future partner

Not even the gender, there was no way I was ever going to figure out who this is

Tate: You're lying

UN: You wish

Tate: Who's the other girls then?

UN: IDK ask the girls she messages

Tate: Screw you

And with that, I threw my phone across the room, hearing slam against the wall. Ava comes running out of where ever she was.

"What just happened? Are you okay?" She's checking all over the room, picking up my phone.

"That..stupid person. God, I hate them," Tears were forming in my eyes. Nika wouldn't, there's no way. But she could, why would she choose me anyway.

"Okay, what's going on?" Ava places the phone down on the table between us, "Why'd you throw your phone?"

"They told me Nika was talking to other girls," I look down at my now cracked screen, "What if it's the truth?"

"Ask Nika."

"What? Why would I ask her? If she was she wouldn't tell me," I start to fidget with my fingernails, trying to stop myself from crying.

"She wouldn't lie, that women is like centered around loyalty. Like, come on, the women has the word tattooed on her neck," She bends across the table to grab my hands, "She wouldn't hurt you. She wouldn't lie to you. And it's literally been a couple of days since you've even known each other. She can't be sick of you...yet."

"Minus that last part, thank you," She nods, "I'm gonna talk to her. I'm gonna show her the text. I'm gonna tell her everything."

"Yeah, that's a good idea," She releases my hands, moving to sit beside me.

"So, you don't think she would, you know, talk to other girls?"

"I don't think that women can get enough of you," She pauses, "You wanna know something Paige told me?"

"Sure."

"When it's just her and Nika, you're the only thing she talks about. And if she's not talking, she's thinking of you. Please, and I'm begging you, don't let some rando make you mess something up that's so perfect. Okay?"

"She really talks about me to Paige?" I light up at the thought.

"Yeah, did you listen to anything else I said," I laugh.

"Yes, I did. And I won't let this rando mess anything up. I promise," I stick out my pinkie, waiting for her to latch hers on.

She looks at me, smiling, latching our pinkies, "You better keep this promise."

"I will, I will," I laugh, "I just gotta talk to Nika, no big deal."

A/N:  y'all, if you don't get an update for like a week, it's because I've been on vacation. I'm gonna try to write while I'm on vacation, but I can't promise anything.

You guys got any clue who's the unknown number? I'm sure some of you have an idea of who you think it is.

Anyways guys, I have like 50 some chapters planned for this book, do y'all think it's too much. I wanna try to write 'til, like, right after the draft. So far they're in like December.

(Thanks @nikasgirl, you're actually giving me so much confidence in my writing. At this point, the book is like dedicated to you <3)
