Chapter 28: Surprise

I Was Enchanted to Meet YouWords: 6498

Nika POV

Practice wasn't hard. It was more of a 'go over everything and hope tonight is better than last night' kind of practice. We worked drills, we worked plays, then we got out. Quick and simple. Now, I was in my car, jamming to Kendrick Lamar, heading back to the hotel to spend the rest of my free time with her.

I stopped by a Starbucks, ordering me something small and getting her, her favorite drink. Before starting my car back up, I quickly got my girlfriend on the phone.

"Hey, Niks. What's up?"

"You already ready, baby?"

"Uh, yeah, why?"

"I'm on my way to pick you up."

"I wanted to ask, what are we having for lunch?"

"You'll see."

"Nika."

"Yes, pretty girl?"

"Nika."

"It's a surprise!"

"Why? Why is it a surprise?"

"Cause, I wanna do something special for ya."

"Nika."

"I'll see ya in ten!"

And I hung up, knowing if I stayed on the call any longer, she would have gotten it out of me. She always knew how too. This time, I was going to surprise her. I wanted this to be perfect.

Pulled up in front of the hotel, Tate already waiting. She jumps in, looking at me up and down.

"Why are you dressed so nice?"

I laughed, "Wow, can't I look nice?"

That's when I realized what she was wearing, a dark red dress that hugged her body just right. I wanted nothing more than to stop the car, but I can't do that.

"Why are you all dressed up?"

She smirks, "I wanted to look nice for you, baby."

I send her a smirk back, "Oh bebo, all this for me?" I place my hand on her thigh, her dress on the shorter side so I was touching bare skin.

"Mhmm," She nodded.

"You look so hot," She snickers.

"I can tell. You're ripping the dress off with your eyes," I shrug.

"What can I say? A beautiful dress but an even more beautiful body."

Her face shot red, the smirk gone, "Nika."

"Hmm," I started rubbing small circles on her thigh.

"I think I'm going to have to stop you," She took my hand off her thigh, moving it to where she could intertwine our fingers.

"Why though, bebo?"

"Cause...you make me wanna do things we shouldn't be doing right now."

"You're right. We have a reservation to get to," Her face contorts with confusion.

"What reservations?"

"The ones I made this morning. You know, before you kicked me out," She shakes her head laughing.

"Hey, did you get there on time?" I nod, "Did you get yelled at?" I shake my head. "Exactly, you're welcome."

"Fine count this as my 'thank you'."

"Won't do."

I whip my head towards her, "It won't?"

"You had this planned before I kicked you out. So, it doesn't count," She sent me one of her goofy smiles, making me smile.

"Fine, guess you'll have to wait for tonight then."

"What's tonight?"

I shrug, "Just some things I have planned."

Tate POV

I honestly had no clue what was going on. I've never been in the city before, so where Nika was taking me was definitely a surprise.

"One hint?"

"Nope," She shakes her head.

"Have we ever had it?"

"I have, once before. You, probably not."

"That makes this so much harder."

She shakes her head, "Bebo, please, let me surprise you."

"Fine, but only because I think you're cute," She sends me a big smile.

"Thanks, love."

The rest of the car ride had filled itself of conversations that just flowed like nothing else. I sometimes like to think about the way Nika looks at me. Her eyes scan my face. They'll land on my lips, my eyes, my jaw. Then there were times her eyes never left mine. She was always trying to read me, know what I'm feeling. But when I looked back into her eyes, I see nothing but a future. When Nika had told me she saw a future in my eyes, I felt like my heart had melted. She really thought of me the way I thought of her.

Nika put the car into park, "You ready, bebo?"

"More than ready."

Nika POV

I knew what I wanted to ask her might be answered with a no, so I wanted to make everything else perfect. The place, the dinner, everything. So, with no hesitations, I had made reservations at a local steakhouse. It was known to be really nice, and God was it. The place was clean, pretty, beautiful even. It definitely caught Tate's attention.

"This place is so nice," I nodded.

"The best place fore the best girl," She blushed, wrapping her arm into mine.

The hostess took us to the booth I had picked. Tate seemed to be more intrigued with everything around her than me.

"You like it, Ta?"

"How could I not."

"I know they have banging food. I'm excited for you to try it," She nods, picking up the menu.

"Everything sounds so good," She names off a couple things on what I liked from here.

"Ooo that sounds good!"

"Get it," I say, her eyes find mine.

"I think I will," And she did.

We gave the waitress our orders, falling back into easy conversation. We talked about anything, ranging from school and the classes we're taking to what we want to do with our lives.

"So, you wanna be a writer?" I ask, shoving some of the food into my mouth.

"Yeah, it's always been a dream of mine. Like, imagine, sitting at a desk by a window in you're very nice cabin. The snows falling to the ground, reflecting the little sunlight that peaks through the clouds. Pen and paper in hand, writing about the beautiful lives of people that aren't even real."

"Seems like you know what you want," I mumble, she nods.

"And you know what else I want?"

I raise a brow, "What's that, love?"

"You."

A smirk played on her lips, "Is that so, bebo?"

"You and your pet names," She rolled her eyes, I gasped.

"What!?! Do you not like them? I can just call you Tate if you want me too."

Her eyes widened, "No, no, I love the pet names."

"Me too," I gulped, trying to slide my question into talking was harder than expected, "I have something to ask you."

"Yes?"

My thoughts raced, I didn't know what she would feel about this. So. I decided to spew out the question, "Would you want to go to Croatia with me for Christmas?"

Her face looked of pure shock, I quickly retreated the ask, "It's okay if you don't, I just wanted to ask and see if yo-"

She cuts me off, "Oh my God, of course I want to go," Her excitement wearing off.

"What's wrong?"

"You haven't come out to your parents yet though," I'd forgotten about that.

"It's okay, I'll tell them before, okay?"

She nods, a twinkle in her eyes. I smile. Thank God she said she wanted too.

A/N: Guys, i'm actually struggling to stay awake while writing this, so if this is garbage....i'm sorry.
