Soon enough,

Jaybum came bounding into the room, his excitement as vibrant as ever. He plopped down in the center of the group, surrounded by the mountain of gifts he had accumulated throughout the day.

The boy’s eyes sparkled with joy as he began tearing into the colorful wrapping paper, revealing one surprise after another.

Everyone watched him with adoring smiles, their hearts melting at the pure happiness radiating off him.

"Oh my god! Uncle Hobi! *Iron Man* toy! It’s so big—thank you!!!" Jaybum exclaimed, clutching the large action figure like it was his new best friend.

Hoseok laughed, reaching out to ruffle the boy’s soft hair. "Anything for my favorite little guy," he said with a grin.

Jaybum continued unwrapping gifts—clothes, chocolates, books, and, most importantly, an array of toys that seemed to grow larger with each package. His excitement was contagious, and the room was filled with laughter and warmth.

As the gifting continued, Hoseok leaned back against the couch, a soft, reflective smile on his face. "You know, I couldn’t be happier today," he began, his voice a little quieter than usual. "Finding my mate—someone I never expected—feels... surreal. Like everything just clicked into place."

The group hummed in agreement, but before anyone could respond, Jaybum looked up from his latest unwrapped toy with wide,

curious eyes. "TaeTae, what’s a mate?" he asked innocently.

The room fell silent, the atmosphere shifting slightly as everyone exchanged uncertain glances. No one seemed eager to tackle that particular question.

Taehyung, the center of Jaybum’s attention,

scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. "Uh... Bun... A mate is, um... someone you marry," he explained hesitantly, his tone soft as if trying not to overwhelm the boy.

Jaybum’s lips formed a perfect *o* shape, nodding as if he suddenly understood the entire concept. "Ohhh," he said thoughtfully, then asked, "Do you have a mate, TaeTae?"

Taehyung smiled gently, shaking his head. "No, Bun. Not yet."

Jaybum’s next words caught everyone completely off guard. "Then when I grow up, I’ll marry you, TaeTae! I’ll be your mate and stay with you forever!"

Jungkook, who had been quietly sipping his drink in an attempt to stay out of the conversation, choked violently, nearly spilling the contents in his lap.

"Bun... No..." Taehyung stammered, his face red as a cherry. He scrambled to find the words, but it was Jimin who stepped in, his tone laced with amusement.

"Jaybum, you can’t marry TaeTae," Jimin said, trying not to laugh.

"Huh? Why not?" Jaybum frowned, his disappointment clear.

"Because... uh... because TaeTae needs someone older," Jimin explained, hoping the vague answer would satisfy the boy.

Jaybum furrowed his brows in thought, tapping his chin dramatically. Then, as if struck by a brilliant idea, he declared, "Hmm... Then Dadda can marry TaeTae! He’s older!"

Jungkook choked again—this time far worse. He coughed and spluttered, his drink spilling over the edge of the glass as everyone else in the room struggled not to burst into laughter.

Even Yoongi, typically composed, had to cover his mouth to hide his amusement.

Taehyung’s eyes widened as his face flushed even deeper, his hands waving frantically. "Bun! No, no, no! It doesn’t work like that!" he exclaimed, his voice higher than usual.

"Why not? Dadda is the best! And TaeTae is the best! So you should be mates!" Jaybum reasoned with the straightforward logic only a child could muster.

The room erupted in laughter, everyone unable to hold back anymore. Namjoon wiped tears from his eyes, leaning into Jin for support, while Hoseok doubled over, clutching his stomach.

Meanwhile, Jungkook groaned, his ears burning red and still coughing violently.

"Jaybum" he muttered, his voice muffled, "you’re going to give me a heart attack."

Jaybum just tilted his head innocently, completely unaware of the chaos his innocent words had caused. "But it makes sense!" he insisted, his small arms crossing in defiance.

"Alright, alright," Jin intervened, still chuckling as he tried to diffuse the situation. "Jaybum, let’s focus on opening the rest of your gifts, okay?"

"Okay!" Jaybum chirped, easily distracted as he grabbed another brightly wrapped present."

But........

Was the night going to be full of happiness?

The night had started joyous, filled with laughter, dancing, and celebration for Jaybum's birthday.

Yet, as the hours passed and the , an unseen heaviness crept into the mansion or.....in someone's heart?

As the night wound down and everyone began preparing to leave .

Jimin, was chatting with Yoongi in the corner. Their conversation was softer now, a quiet reprieve from the earlier chaos.

"Hyung, you know Agust D is dropping his new album the day after tomorrow? I'm so excited!" Jimin said with his signature grin.

"Oh, yeah? Me too," Yoongi replied, his lips twitching into a rare smile.

"Do you... do you want to listen to it together? At my place?" Yoongi asked, uncharacteristically hesitant.

Jimin's cheeks flushed, the subtle invitation catching him off guard.

"I... Yeah, I'd love that," he stammered, his voice barely above a whisper.

Yoongi smirked slightly, his gaze lingering on the younger man before murmuring, "See you then."

Soon enough,Jungkook quietly pulled Jimin aside, away from the rest of the group. The noise of laughter and chatter from the others softened, giving them a moment of privacy.

Jimin raised a brow at Jungkook’s serious expression. "What’s up?" he asked softly, sensing the tension radiating from his cousin.

"Chim," Jungkook began, his voice low but steady, "can you crash here tonight and keep an eye on Jaybum?"

Jimin’s brows furrowed in concern. "Of course I can. But why—" He paused as his eyes instinctively flicked to the clock on the wall. 11: 30 . Realization washed over his face like a wave.

"Jungkook..." Jimin whispered, his voice softer now, laced with understanding. "You don’t have to do this. You know we’re all here for you. If you want, we can all stay and—"

"No, Jimin," Jungkook interrupted, shaking his head. "I... please, just stay with Jaybum for the night. That’s all I’m asking." His tone was firm but carried a weight that made Jimin’s chest tighten.

Jimin searched Jungkook’s face for any sign of weakness, but all he found was resolve. He sighed and nodded reluctantly. "Alright. But promise me you won’t do anything stupid," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.

Jungkook glanced away, avoiding Jimin’s piercing gaze. He gave a small nod Before Jimin could press further, a loud voice interrupted them.

"Yo! Are you guys having a secret meeting or what?" Hoseok called out with a grin as he approached, his playful energy cutting through the somber moment.

Jungkook forced a laugh, his mask slipping back into place. "Hahhh, no. I was just asking Jimin to stay over tonight," he said, his voice lighter now, as though nothing was wrong.

Hoseok nodded, seemingly convinced. "Ah, cool. Jaybum’s gonna love that. Chim’s the best at bedtime stories," he said with a chuckle before turning back to join the group.

As Jimin returned to the group, helping everyone bid their goodbyes, he couldn’t shake the worry gnawing at him. He somewhat could feel what was going to happen.

On the other side of the room, Jungkook crouched to meet Jaybum at eye level, his tone soft yet firm.

"Bun, listen to me carefully, okay?" he began.

Jaybum blinked up at him with wide, curious eyes.

"Tonight, you're going to stay with Chimmy Uncle in your room, alright?"

Jungkook cupped his son’s small face, his thumb brushing the boy’s cheek gently.

"Why, Dadda?" Jaybum tilted his head.

Jungkook hesitated, the lie forming on his tongue. "Dadda has to work tonight. Remember, strong boys never disturb their dadda when he works, right?"

Jaybum puffed out his chest proudly, nodding. "Okay, Dadda! I promise I won't disturb you!"

From the corner, Taehyung had been watching the interaction. He coughed lightly, pulling both of their attention to him.

"I... I'll be heading out now," Taehyung said softly.

Jaybum dashed to him, wrapping his small arms around Taehyung’s leg. "Bye-bye, TaeTae!" he chirped.

Taehyung bent down, ruffling the boy’s hair fondly. "Bye, Bun. Be good  okay?"

Jaybum nodded enthusiastically, and Taehyung’s gaze briefly flicked to Jungkook. There was something off—something Taehyung couldn’t quite place. Jungkook’s earlier ease had evaporated, replaced by a storm behind his eyes.

As Taehyung slipped on his shoes and waved goodbye, and so did the others.

Taehyung caught a glimpse of Jungkook’s expression. There was something unspoken there, as if an almost desperate pain that twisted at his chest.

Yoongi drove silently, the car's interior filled with a comfortable yet contemplative quiet.

Taehyung sat in the passenger seat, lost in his thoughts. His mind replayed the events of the evening—the joy, the smiles, and then the subtle shift in Jungkook’s demeanor.

It wasn’t until they were halfway home that realization struck him like a bolt of lightning.

Jaybum’s birthday... The date…it was also Jungkook's brother's death anniversary.......
