"You didn't tell me how I'm looking, Tae."
The words were casual, but the deep, firm tone made Taehyung freeze. Slowly, he turned around, his eyes meeting Jungkook's unwavering gaze.
For a moment, the world seemed to narrow to just the two of them.
Taehyung swallowed hard. "It's... alright," he said quietly, his voice barely above a whisper.
Jungkook raised an eyebrow, a teasing smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. "Just alright?" he asked, stepping closer. His movements were slow, deliberate, and his eyes never left Taehyung's.
Taehyung shifted uncomfortably under the intensity of Jungkook's gaze. He glanced down at the sweater-the very one he had poured his time and effort into-and felt a familiar wave of insecurity wash over him.
"Jungkook..." he began, hesitating as his fingers fidgeted nervously. "Don't get me wrong, but... I thought you'd wear it at home."
Jungkook tilted his head slightly, as if waiting for him to continue.
"I-I told you," Taehyung stammered, his voice tinged with self-doubt. "I'm not the best knitter, and the sweater isn't perfect..."
His words trailed off, his gaze falling to the floor. He felt exposed, as though every imperfection he saw in the sweater was on full display.
Jungkook's expression softened instantly. He took another step closer, closing the distance between them. "Do I look like I care if it's perfect or not, Kim?" he asked, his voice low and gentle now.
Taehyung looked up at him, startled by the sincerity in his tone.
"I didn't wear this because it's flawless," Jungkook continued, his gaze locking onto Taehyung's.
"I wore it because of what it represents. Every stitch, every detail-it's you, Tae. Your care. Your dedication. That's what makes it perfect."
The words hit Taehyung like a wave, leaving him momentarily speechless. His heart pounded in his chest, his insecurities slowly melting away under Jungkook's earnest gaze.
"I..." Taehyung started, but his voice faltered. He wasn't used to this-someone seeing so deeply into him, into the things he poured his heart into.
Jungkook took a deep breath and said, "You know, Tae," he said, his voice barely above a whisper now, "this sweater...it feels like as if ...as if there's something unspoken....as if a subtle way to say something."
Taehyung felt his cheeks heat up, the warmth spreading all the way to the tips of his ears. He didn't know what to say, so instead, he let the corners of his lips curve into a shy smile.
Taehyung hesitately said,
"Yeah... obviously....a subtle way to tell you that vampires are always better" Taehyung said avoiding eye contact.
Jungkook glanced down at the small, embroidered wolf and bat symbols on the sweater. A soft chuckle escaped him. "You know," he said, breaking the silence, "the crossed swords are a nice touch. But I think the wolf's winning."
Taehyung rolled his eyes, his lips quirking into a playful pout. "Keep dreaming, Jeon. The bat always wins."
"but where's my surprise? You said you'd give it to me today" Taehyung said trying to avoid the topic.
Jungkook chuckled, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "i do have a surprise firework for you? But you'll have to wait a little longer. Midnight is when the real magic happens."
Jungkook leaned closer, lowering his voice just enough to send a shiver down Taehyung's spine.
"I've arranged a special firework for you. It'll be set off during the countdown but not with the main display. Yours will be behind the house."
Taehyung's eyebrows furrowed in confusion, then realization struck him. "So that's why everyone stopped me from checking the fireworks earlier! You told them to, didn't you?"
Jungkook's smirk deepened. "Guilty as charged. But trust me, it'll be worth the wait. Come to the upstairs balcony at midnight before the countdown"
Taehyung huffed, crossing his arms again. "I have to wait hours for this? I don't know if I can hold out for that long, Jungkook. You're making me curious."
Jungkook leaned in closer, his face inches from Taehyung's. "You know, since you're so impatient, I could tell you a little secret of mine."
Taehyung's brow lifted. "What kind of secret?"
Jungkook's expression turned playful, his voice dropping to a near whisper.
"Well, you weren't wrong last night when you said you're my favorite vampire enemy."
Taehyung froze, his pulse quickening as Jungkook leaned in even closer, his lips brushing the end of Taehyung's ear.
"In fact," Jungkook continued, his voice soft and deep, "you're not just my favorite vampire enemy. You're my favorite vampire....."
The words sent a rush of warmth to Taehyung's cheeks. He closed his eyes for a moment, inhaling deeply to steady himself, but his breath hitched as Jungkook's lips ghosted over his skin.
And then, just as quickly, Jungkook pulled back slightly and pressed a quick, featherlight kiss to Taehyung's cheek.
The next thing happened ,
The lively rhythm of the music pulsed through the air as the party kicked into full swing.
The dance floor, illuminated by colorful lights, became the heart of the evening. Namjoon, Jin, Hoseok, Amy, Jimin, Yoongi, Jaybum, Jungkook, and Taehyung formed a tight circle in the middle, their laughter and energy infectious as they let loose to the beat.
Hoseok, ever the life of the party, led the group, his fluid movements drawing cheers from everyone. âCome on! Show me what youâve got!â he called out, spinning and sliding effortlessly across the floor. Amy joined in, trying to mimic his moves, her laughter ringing out as Hoseok exaggerated his steps for her.
Namjoon attempted a dance move heâd seen on social media, only to stumble slightly. Jin quickly caught his arm, laughing so hard he nearly doubled over. âStick to your speeches, Joon,â Jin teased, his own moves more graceful but just as playful.
Meanwhile, Jimin and Yoongi were caught in a playful dance battle, Jiminâs sharp and precise movements contrasting with Yoongiâs subtle yet cool groove.
âHyung, thatâs not dancing, thatâs swaying!â Jimin teased, trying to provoke Yoongi, who simply smirked and pulled off a surprisingly smooth spin, earning applause from the group.
In the middle of it all, Jaybum was the star. The little boy twirled around excitedly, clapping his hands and hopping to the beat. âTaeTae! Dance with me!â he squealed, tugging on Taehyungâs hand.
Taehyung immediately obliged, crouching down to match Jaybumâs level and spinning him around gently. The sight melted everyoneâs hearts.
Jungkook, unable to resist, joined in next to them. He picked up Jaybum mid-spin and twirled him in the air, making the little boy giggle uncontrollably.
âLook at me fly!â Jaybum exclaimed, his laughter brighter than any light in the room. Taehyung and Jungkook exchanged a
quick glance, a shared smile lingering between them.
As the music shifted to a more upbeat tempo, the group burst into synchronized chaos. Jin and Namjoon linked arms, attempting an old-school move but failing hilariously when they bumped into Jimin and Yoongi. Hoseok dragged Amy into the middle, both of them jumping in perfect rhythm.
âAlright, alright, letâs all do the same move!â Hoseok shouted, taking charge. He demonstrated a simple yet energetic step, and soon everyone was following along. Even Jaybum tried to match the rhythm, though his tiny feet couldnât keep up. Taehyung and Jungkook held his hands to help him move, creating a heartwarming sight.
The dance floor became a whirlwind of laughter, claps, and joy as they all danced together, forgetting everything else for the moment.
The bonds they shared, the love they had for one another, and the pure happiness of welcoming a new year filled the air. It was a night none of them would ever forget.
