Chapter 10 Kane Since Selene left the pack, Iâd been staying at the corporate apartment.
For whatever reason, I couldnât bring myself to go back to the house.
Today was my scheduled visit with my father, so I drove to the pack house.
When I walked in, I found my father pacing the living room.
Get 5 ÐеÑи His mood was clearly off. I approached him, though I couldnât figure out what had him so worked up.
âDad,â I said.
He looked at me and asked, âWhy are you drinking yourself stupid every night?â
I kept quiet. I couldnât care less.
I didnât owe him an answer to every question.
Heâd ruined my life by blackmailing me with something that was rightfully mine to begin with.
My life wouldâve been completely different if I hadnât given in to him and married Selene two years ago.
When my father noticed my silence, his expression darkened. âCome to my study,â he ordered.
I followed him, aware of my mother watching us quietly. I wanted to ask her what was going on but held back. Whatever it was, Iâd hear it from him soon enough.
I stepped into my parentsâ room, taking in the familiar surroundings.
After shutting the door, my father said, âWord is youâre planning to marry Ruby.â
I stopped short, frowning. I hadnât promised marriage to anyone. I had no idea who was spreading these rumors.
Though truthfully, Ruby deserved to be with me. I owed her everything I was today. Marriage to her wouldnât be the worst choice for my future.
âWhy arenât you saying anything? Are you really going to marry that snake?â
His description of Ruby made me wince. How could I make him understand that she was the only one whoâd stood by me?
But I didnât want to explain myself, so I just asked, âWhatâs wrong with me marrying Ruby?â
My father growled, his eyes flashing red as he punched me.
I clenched my fists, fury rising. Only the fact that he was my father kept me from retaliating.
Anyone else who dared lay a hand on me wouldâve gotten their arm broken.
My father launched into a tirade. âI chose the perfect woman for you. She took care of you for two years. And what did you do?
You divorced that innocent woman. And now what? You want to marry that homeâwrecker?â
âDad, please.â
âPlease? Please what? You shouldâve said âpleaseâ when I was breaking the pack bond with Selene.

His words made me wonder if Iâd stopped my father that day, would she have stayed?
I left the pack house seething, driving back to my place.
Walking in, I spotted a woman in a white dress.
Sets Menu I froze. She had her back to me. âSelene? I thought.
âSo you finally came back,â I said sarcastically, The woman turned around, greeting me with a broad smile.
âKane, youâre home?â
I stepped back. âRuby!â
I was shocked to see herâwearing Seleneâs dress, no less.
âWhatâs wrong? Not happy to see me?â Ruby asked, walking toward me.
I frowned. âWhy are you wearing Seleneâs dress?â
She looked uncomfortable at the question.
âI spilled coffee when I got here. Iâm just borrowing something to wear. She wonât mind, right?â
Looking at Ruby in that white dress bothered me deeply. I couldnât explain why, but I hated it.
Ruby wrapped her arms around my neck, leaning in.
Just as she was about to kiss me, all I could see was Selene wearing that same dress.
I pushed Ruby away.
She looked stunned.
I glared at her. âDonât ever wear her clothes again. They donât suit you.â
Ruby froze, then lowered her head and nodded.
I saw tears running down her face. Iâd scared her, but I didnât care. No one was supposed to have this kind of power over me.
Yet somehow, I was affected. Something was irritating me. I hated it. Every time I tried to get close to Ruby, Seleneâs face invaded my thoughts.
Why?
Each day ended with my mind in chaos. That woman was driving me crazy even in her absence.
âIâll be at the bar tonight,â Ruby said softly.
I turned to look at her. My eyes caught the scar on her right arm. That scar reminded me of how Ruby had risked her life to save mine.
I sighed, regretting my harshness. I shouldnât treat Ruby this way, not after what sheâd done for me. I took her right hand, and she immediately turned to hug me. I hugged her back, even though I felt nothing.
She loved me, and I couldnât just use her as an emotional punching bag. She was important. I needed 08:45 12.48%
