Chapter 122 My hands trembled as I gripped his collar, my fury boiling over to the point where I wanted to kill the man standing before me.
But I forced myself to calm down and released him.
âJust shut your mouth,â I ordered.
He didnât listen. Instead, he bombarded me with questions.
âWhat gave your brother the nerve to talk about my health? What did he think? That his sister got pregnant by someone else and it wasnât because of her shameful actions?â His face was twisted with anger as he demanded answers.
I didnât know what to say. My brother had provoked him by bringing up something he shouldnât have. âIâll take everything from you and your brother,â he snarled. âIâll make your whole family kneel before me. Mark my words, Selene Hawthorne.â
âLeave my pack and donât come back,â he added coldly. âWe donât need you here.â
âIâm leaving your pack this time,â he said with venom, âbut I wonât let your brother go. The man who insulted me in front of the other Alphas will pay for itâwith his life.â
His words shocked me to my core, and I roared back at him.
âDonât you dare touch him! Death wonât come for him. Do you know why?â
He stared at me, his expression unreadable, but I didnât care.
I stepped closer, lowering my voice to a dangerous whisper.
âBecause Iâm always with him. Anyone who tries to hurt him, Iâll tear their heart out of their chest.â
The threat was meant for him, loud and clear. I wanted him to know that if he even thought about harming my brother, I wouldnât hesitate to kill him.
Kane didnât move or respond. He seemed frozen, lost in his thoughts, as though he hadnât even fully heard me.
I scoffed when I saw his gaze drop to my lips. Disgusted, I lifted my hand and wiped my lips as if I could erase the memory of his stare.
Without another word, I turned on my heel and walked away, my steps hurried. I needed to get far away from him before I lost control completely.
When I reached the living room, I headed straight to my room, moving as quickly as possible.
âMiss Selene?â a maid called out from behind me, stopping me in my tracks.
I turned to look at her.
âThe Alpha has asked you to go to his room,â she said.
âWhy? Is the meeting over?â I asked, frowning.
âNo,â she replied. âHe said heâll be there shortly.â
I gave her a brief nod and turned to leave, but she spoke again.
âMiss, your lips...â

Menu I froze, instinctively covering my mouth. Had she noticed the cut on my lip?
âYour lipstick is smudged,â she said instead.
Her words stunned me. I usually wore lightâcolored lipstick, but today Iâd chosen red. The maids must have noticed the difference. I realized then that the kiss had wiped it away.
âI wiped my lips with a tissue,â I said quickly. âThat must be why.â
Without waiting for a response, I turned and hurried to my room.
The moment I shut the door, something nagged at the back of my mind. I rushed to the mirror, leaning closer to examine my lips.
The cut that had been on my bottom lip was already healed.
âDid he notice it back then?â I muttered to myself.
I walked over to my bed and sat down, my thoughts spinning. I didnât know what Kane wanted from me. The more I tried to distance myself from him, the closer he seemed to get.
As the memory of his kiss replayed in my mind, I rubbed my lips harshly.
âI hate you. I hate you. I hate you,â I murmured under my breath, repeating the words like a mantra.
I knew what my brother had done was wrong, but Kane deserved every ounce of humiliation heâd rec eived. In fact, after what heâd done today, I thought he deserved even worse.
âIsnât this harassment? How dare he kiss me?â I muttered, pulling at my hair in frustration as I paced back and forth in my room.
The door suddenly opened, breaking my train of thought.
I stopped in my tracks, glaring at the two men who entered.
âI told you to come to my room,â Magnus said, closing the door behind him.
Axel was with him, walking toward me.
âWhatâs wrong? Why do you look so tense?â Axel asked, concern in his voice.
I ignored him and directed my attention to Magnus, my anger simmering just below the surface. âMagnus, why did you do that?â
He frowned. âWhat are you talking about?â
âI know everything,â I said firmly.
His brows furrowed. âHow? Did you plant a camera in the meeting room?â he asked, chuckling.
It irritated me that he seemed so amused. I sighed and stepped closer to him.
âMagnus, youâve always been polite to everyone. But what you did today was completely inappropriate Why did you humiliate him like that in front of the others?â
Magnus took my hands in his. âSelene, why do you even care about him? Have you forgotten what that man did to you?â
I shook my head. âI havenât forgotten a single thing, Magnus. But I didnât expect this from you. You set up the entire meeting just to embarrass him?â

= Menu Magnus cupped my face, his tone soft but firm.
âI canât stand to see my sister cry. That man made you cry more times than I can count. Even the di vorce didnât stop himâhe kept tormenting you. I shouldâve taught him a lesson years ago.â
I looked up at him, my voice unsure. âMagnus, I donât know what to say or do anymore.â
He stroked my hair gently. âDonât worry. I took care of everything today. Heâll never bother you again. I put him in his place.â
I didnât respond, unsure of how I felt. I simply nodded.
âAlpha Hunter is my friend,â Magnus continued. âThe alliance contract was made with him. Iâm hosting a party tomorrow to celebrate.â
âI donât want to go to any party,â I said, turning to stare out the window.
âYouâre the CEO of the pack company. You have to be there.â
âFine,â I muttered, still gazing outside.
They stood there for a moment, watching me. When they saw I wasnât going to say anything else, they quietly left, closing the door behind them and leaving me alone with my thoughts.
