Menu âDid you make it there safely?â Grayson asked the moment I answered the call.
A small smile played on my lips as I lay back, gazing at the ceiling. The soft glow of moonlight streaming through the window made it visible in the dim room.
âYeah, I got here fine. What about you? What are you up to?â
âNot much. Just trying to figure out how everything got so messed up all of a sudden.â
His frustrated tone made me frown. âWhat happened?â
âRemember I told you I had some work to take care of? The Alpha wants me to accompany him to another pack. Now I have to leave mine and head over there.â
Confusion settled in. âWhy so suddenly?â
âI have no clue, Selene. Their Alpha personally asked to meet with me. Maybe itâs a health issue, but Iâm not sure.â
I could hear the exhaustion in his voice. A brief silence stretched between us.
âYou still there, or did you fall asleep on me?â
âIâm listening,â I murmured, my focus shifting when I noticed Kane rising from the couch.
Without a word, he strode toward the door, yanked it open, and stepped outside, letting it slam shut behind him.
The loud noise made me flinch, and in the quiet of the room, Grayson clearly heard it too.
âAre you okay? What was that?â
I stared at the doorway, hesitating before mumbling, âKane shut the door.â
âKane? What the hell is he doing there?â
Realizing what I had just let slip, I bit my lip, quickly trying to figure out how to explain without making things worse.
âHeâs... heâs here with us.â My voice was barely above a whisper.
âWhat do you mean, Selene? Why is he there? Did he do something to you? If he-â
âRelax, Grayson.â I cut him off before he jumped to conclusions. âHe canât do anything to me. I can handle myself.â
Grayson fell silent for a moment, but I could already tell what he was thinking. I sighed, knowing I couldnât tell him that Kane and I were sharing a room. If he found out, heâd lose it and demand I leave immediately. That wasnât an optionâI came here for my children, and I wasnât ready to go back just yet.
âThen what was he doing in your room?â His voice was calmer now, but still laced with suspicion.
âHe must have forgotten something. He just grabbed it and left. Donât worry about meâI can take care of myself.â

Menu His gaze locked onto me the second he noticed I was still on the phone. Without hesitation, he stalked toward me.
âIâll try to get back to the Nightfall Pack as soon as I can,â Grayson assured me.
âYeah, Grayson. Just make sure you-â
Before I could finish, Kane snatched my phone out of my hand and ended the call.
2 I blinked in shock, staring at him. âWhat the hell is wrong with you?â I demanded, pushing myself up from the bed.
But before I could fully sit up, Kaneâs palm covered my mouth, his face lowering until his piercing gaze locked onto mine.
âItâs late. Stop talking on the phone and let me sleep,â he murmured, his voice carrying a quiet authority. âYou came here to spend time with your kids, not to whisper sweet nothings to your boyfriend all night.â
I tried to shove him away, but he simply leaned in closer, his breath warm against my ear as he whispered, âJust go to sleep, Selene. I donât like hearing you talk to another man.â
