Chapter 378 Kane kept his eyes down, not looking at anyone, as he responded calmly, âIt wasnât just his fault. Iâm just as much to blame. I destroyed your sisterâs life, and sheâs been enduring the consequences of my actions all these years.â
Selene suddenly pushed her chair back and stood, her voice steady but distant.
âIâm heading to the coffee shop,â she announced.
a Menu Everyone turned to look at herâeveryone except Kane. He seemed to avoid her completely, keeping his gaze elsewhere. Without waiting for a response, Selene turned and walked out of the dining room.
Once outside, she paused on the porch, her thoughts swirling.
She didnât know why she couldnât bring herself to take another step forward. She had left the room because she didnât want to sit there and listen to more talk about the past. It was suffocating.
If her brother was going to reclaim the Iron Crown Pack, it meant theyâd all be leaving this pack soon. Part of her wanted thatâ
wanted to leave. Returning to her old life felt like the only way to escape the weight of her past. Staying here would only force her to face it again and again.
Selene absently rummaged through her bag, only to realize sheâd forgotten her phone. She had meant to grab it before leaving her room but now didnât want to go back into the house to get it.
Without a phone, calling a cab wasnât an option, so she decided to walk to the nearest bus stop.
As she walked down the street, her mind wandered to her future. She resolved she needed to tell Grayson the truth about what had happened during her heat. She couldnât keep him in the darkâit wouldnât be fair.
The shame weighed heavily on her. How had it come to this? She had a boyfriend, yet sheâd let herself be drawn to another man. Worse, she had been fully aware of what she was doing. That one night had flipped her entire world upside down, leaving her relationship with Grayson fractured.
She felt like sheâd betrayed him.
Deep down, she knew what would happen. Grayson would end things once he found out. He had every right to. But as much as she dreaded that moment, she couldnât ignore everything heâd done for her family. He had saved her brotherâs life when everyone else had written Magnus off. No other doctor had been able to help, but Grayson had.
Before she confessed, she needed to thank him. It was the least she could do.
Reaching the bus stop, Selene was about to sit down and wait when the sound of a car pulling up caught her attention.
She turned, surprised to see a familiar figure stepping out of the back seat. Kane.
Her heart skipped a beat as their eyes met, and for a moment, she couldnât move. Why was he here? Had she really stood outside her house for so long that heâd already finished breakfast and tracked her down?
Trying to steady herself, she tore her gaze away and asked, 0 16:32 70 92%
âIs there something you need? Why are you here?â
Kane closed the distance between them, stopping mere inches away.
#Men She noticed the folder in his hand and frowned as he held it out to her. Hesitating, she reached for it and asked, âWhat is this?â
His voice was calm, steady.
âThe custody of my children,â he replied.
Confused, she raised her eyes to meet his. âWhy are you giving me these papers? Theyâre already with you.â
His gaze didnât waver as he answered softly, âIâm giving you custody. Youâre free to live with them as you choose.â
