Chapter 38 Get 5 >
Menu âBut weâre not even married anymore. Itâs been five years. Why is he still hung up on that?â I asked, confused.
âWe donât know. Even during your marriage, he was still respectful. But after you left the pack, he changed. He became coldâ
hearted,â Garrett said, thinking back to when Kane started acting differently.
I took Dianaâs hand and rubbed it gently. âEverything will be okay. Please donât cry.â
She nodded and wiped her tears, âIâm just worried about my husband.â
I looked at Garrett, who seemed so weak. My own tears started falling, and I quickly wiped them away.
I was always emotional â I couldnât stand seeing others suffer. Alpha Garrett was someone I deeply respected. I remembered him healthy and strong, with an aura that commanded respect. Now that powerful man lay here, weak and frail.
Even though I wanted to get back to my pack, I couldnât say anything right then. I planned to leave the hospital that night after our visit.
After a while, Diana sat on the edge of the bed while I stayed on the stool.
âWhere have you been all these years?â Diana asked.
I knew I had to answer carefully. I couldnât reveal my true identity â definitely not now. I also didnât want them knowing Iâd gotten my wolf.
What if they asked about my mate? I didnât want to pile up more lies. How could I possibly tell them their son, who Iâd divorced years ago, turned out to be my mate?
âI was in the Iron Crown Pack,â I said.
Garrett perked up. âHow did you end up there?â
His question brought back memories of the day I left Nightfall Pack â memories Iâd been turning over in my mind for years.
âMy brother-â I caught myself immediately.
âYour what?â Diana asked.
I cleared my throat. âThat day, luck was on my side. Alpha Magnus found me at their border.â
I could see the surprise on their faces. They were hungry for more details.
âSince I looked pretty rough, he asked me a lot of questions. When I explained I had nowhere to go, he let me stay. Heâs a good man.â
I couldnât help smiling when I talked about Magnus. Among powerful Alphas, he was one of the kindest.
Garrett caught my smile and asked curiously, âAre you close to him?â
I laughed. âOf course I am. Itâs just that Alpha Magnus is highly respected, and I admire him. Nothing more.â
Diana smiled. âWe heard about your fiancé. Iâm glad youâre starting fresh with someone you care about.â

Her words caught me off guard. Fiancé? What was she talking about?
Then it hit me she meant Beta Axel. Had they seen his social media post too?
âDoes he treat you well?â Garrett asked.
Get 5 I thought about it. Of course Axel treated me well. For the past five years, heâd been there for me through everything, helping me get through it all.
âYes, he does,â I said softly.
I knew they were misunderstanding my relationship with Axel. But I couldnât lie about how well he treated me.
I felt a hand stroking my hair. Looking up, I saw Diana smiling at me. âDonât worry about what others think. Youâre an amazing woman. I know youâll find the happiness you deserve.â
I stared at her. Early in my marriage to Kane, she couldnât stand me. But over time, sheâd grown to like me. Now she was like a mother to me.
I decided I should come clean about Axel and me. I needed to explain that he was just trying to protect me from that situation.
âActually, Axel and I-â
The door opened before I could finish, and a group of doctors walked in.
Diana and I stood up. The doctors bowed slightly to Garrett and Diana.
Even though theyâd stepped down from their positions, they still deserved respect.
As I looked at the doctors, my eyes landed on someone standing in front.
He was staring at me too, looking shocked, like he couldnât believe what he was seeing.
I smiled at him. âDoctor Nathan.â
