âHow can you say that? You donât even know what the treatment is, do you? This isnât a cure just anyone can make.â
âExactly. We all make an effort just to say hello to Doctor Grayson once a year. And here you are, talking about getting us the cure.â
I ignored their comments, keeping my eyes focused on Doctor Nathan. He raised his hand to silence the doctors. As chief physician, everyone at the hospital respected him.
âAre you sure, Selene?â he asked.
The doctors looked stunned. They turned to stare at Doctor Nathan.
They couldnât understand why Doctor Nathan would trust someone who just appeared out of nowhere.
âYes,â I answered confidently.
He nodded at me while looking at Diana who stood behind me. When I turned to her, I saw hope in her eyes.
âIf Selene can help us, weâll save him. If she really can help, it would be a miracle,â Doctor Nathan said with conviction.
âSelene, do you really have that cure? Will you really help Garrett?â Diana asked eagerly.
I nodded. She hugged me to show her gratitude.
âI donât know how to thank you. Even after everything that happened in the past, youâre still willing to help us.â
I assured her I would do everything possible to help her husband.
Doctor Nathan cleared his throat. âIâll let the Alpha know to meet me as soon as possible. I need to talk to him.â
Diana smiled at Doctor Nathan. âWill Garrett get better soon, Nathan?â
When Nathan looked at me, it was like he believed I was the only one who could help. I nodded, and he confidently replied, âHe will.â
Diana sighed with relief and went to sit by Garrett.
While Doctor Nathan watched me, the other doctors went to adjust the medical equipment.
âI should go. Someone told me earlier today that my close friend had returned to the pack and wanted to meet me.â
I knew he was talking about me. I gave him a smile before he left the room.
I stayed with Garrett for a while. Diana kept asking if I really knew how to make the cure and how I could read those reports. I told her Iâd explain everything about myself later. I just asked her to trust me.
She said she had no choice but to trust me since her husband was dying.
When I saw a guard bring lunch for Garrett and Diana, I stood up.

âYou go ahead and eat. I need to meet someone here. Iâll be back in an hour.â
âDiana, please eat. Iâll return soon.â
Diana didnât try to stop me. I left the room to meet Doctor Nathan, figuring he might be free during lunch.
As soon as I stepped out, one of the security guards handed me a bouquet of white roses â the ones Iâd bought for Doctor Nathan. Iâd completely forgotten about them.
I thanked the guard for keeping them safe and headed to the elevator. Inside, I pressed the button for the head doctorâs floor.
While waiting, the doors opened, and there was Doctor Nathan, about to step in.
Looks like he was heading somewhere. He smiled as he entered the elevator.
âHi,â I greeted him.
Since we were alone in the elevator, I smiled back and said, âHi, I was just coming to see you.â
He didnât seem surprised. Instead, he asked, âWhy didnât you come earlier? I was waiting for you.â
âI didnât want to bother you during work hours.â
He chuckled at that. I shook my head and added, âActually, I didnât want to leave Diana when she was so emotional.â
I noticed him glancing at the bouquet. I immediately handed it to him. âThese are for you. I canât thank you enough for everything you did for me five years ago.â
This time, he looked surprised by my gratitude. While holding the flowers, he asked quietly, âDid your childr-â
Before he could finish, I answered, âThey survived.â
I knew what he was trying to ask.
He stared at me for a moment. The elevator bell dinged, and the doors slowly opened.
We stepped out. Iâd done what I came to do â thank him â so I thought about leaving, but he stopped me.
âSelene, letâs have lunch together.â
