Chapter 53 Get 5 >
= Menu Kane was fuming and about to charge at me when Ruby clutched his arms, bursting into tears.
âKane, please take me to the hospital. The pain is unbearable.â
After glancing at her, Kane gave a slight nod. He scooped her up into his arms, shooting me one final glare before heading to his car parked nearby. I knew he was taking her to the hospital.
I caught Ruby looking back at me. She flashed me a devious smirk, then wrapped her arms around Kaneâs neck, putting on quite a show of being in agony.
âThis woman!â I muttered under my breath. âI barely touched her hand. If Iâd used my full strength, she wouldnât even have a hand left.â
My attention shifted to the guards who had just lost their jobs. I walked over to them, noting their dejected expressions.
âDonât worry about being fired. Would you be interested in working elsewhere for the same pay?â I asked.
They looked at me, stunned.
âYeah, but howâs that possible?â one of them asked.
âLeave that to me. Just let me have your ID cards.â
They pulled out their IDs, and I quickly snapped photos of them, assuring them theyâd have new positions soon.
âMs. Selene?â
I heard someone calling from behind. Turning around, I saw a security guard approaching.
âThereâs a car waiting for you at the entrance. We canât let unauthorized vehicles in. Is it yours?â
âYes, thatâs my car. Please let it through,â I replied, realizing they must have stopped my driver at the main gate.
Minutes later, my driver pulled up beside me. I got in and asked him to head to the shopping mall. During the drive, Diana called to check on my whereabouts.
She was worried Iâd left the pack house for good and begged me to return. I sighed and promised Iâd be back by nightfall. She seemed relieved and apologized for her sonâs behavior.
Truth be told, I had planned to leave when I stormed out of the dining room, but after giving Kane and Ruby a taste of their own medicine, I felt somewhat better.
I realized that confronting Kane headâon would make me stronger than before.
At the luxury mall, I stepped out of the car and walked inside. This place catered to the wealthy elite â Iâd only been here once before, shopping for my wedding dress at someone elseâs insistence.
Coming back after so long, I wanted to buy something for my children, not knowing when Iâd get the chance to give it to them.
As I passed the designer stores, a white dress shirt caught my eye, reminding me of one Iâd bought for Kane years ago. Just like my flower bouquet, heâd rejected that too.

= Menu I remembered that day clearly. Iâd been so happy to buy him that shirt. Though it wasnât designer, it was good quality. Iâd hoped he would like it, but instead, heâd poured red wine all over it.
âThis shirt is cheap, just like you,â heâd sneered that day.
How could I forget those words? Being back here seemed to reopen every old wound, one by one.
I bumped into a woman, quickly apologized, and forced myself to look away from the shirt.
I spent hours in the mall, shopping for my kids and eventually settling in at a café, lost in thought.
It was nearly evening when my phone rang â an unknown number.
âHello?â
âItâs Nathan.â
âOh, hi. How did you get my number?â
âAlpha Garrett gave it to me yesterday. I asked for it since I forgot to get it from you.â
âI see. Howâs Garrett doing? Is everything okay?â
I assumed he was calling about health concerns.
âNo, itâs about Ruby,â he replied.
As the packâs head doctor and the Alpha familyâs private physician, Nathan was always the first call when any family member was injured. I figured Kane had taken Ruby to the pack hospital and called Nathan to check on her hand.
âWhat about her?â I asked, taking a sip of coffee.
âDid you do something to her?â
âWhy? Is she spreading rumors that I broke her hand?â
â
âNo, but sheâs pushing Kane to take action against you.â
I set my coffee cup down and couldnât help but laugh. âWhat can he do to me now? He canât even threaten me with divorce anymore.â
I remembered his furious expression outside the pack house. He must have heard everything I said to Ruby, and it made him angry.
He was probably shocked to hear me curse. I wasnât usually one for foul language, but I hated them both, so Iâd simply called them what they were.
âHer hand is injured, Selene,â Nathan said.
âReally?â
âYouâre right. The pressure was intense. It almost broke her hand.â
That surprised me. How was that possible? I hadnât even squeezed that hard.
âBut I barely used any force, Nathan.â
âI forgot to ask â did you ever get your wolf?â
âYes, four years ago, after giving birth. But what does that have to do with anything?â
