Chapter 20: GOTCHU ALWAYS

FOR YOU || ASHTRAYWords: 7675

Liani had missed two days of school, and had ignored all of juliet's messages about where she was, and had been. juliet was worried about her, she prayed that she didn't do something she would regret, or put herself in danger. she knew her best friend, she knew liani didn't care much for herself, and that she'd do whatever no matter if it could put herself in danger or not.

juliet didn't live that close to liani, it would take at least twenty minutes to get there, and her mom refused to take her. but she had to see if liani was home, make sure to was okay.

so, after finally arriving at lianis house, juliet harshly knocked on the door. she stood there impatiently, waiting for the moment her best friend would open the door.

after too many minutes of waiting, juliet brought her hand up to the door handle and twisted it, pushing the door open her heart dropped for a second.

lianis mother sat on the couch, her head leaned back and her eyes shut. juliet now wondered if this is why liani hadn't been at school, if her mom had done something to her again.

juliet fully hated lianis mom, after seeing what she would do to her. she walked quickly up the stairs, and swung open lianis room door, being met with her sleeping, as well.

her room was a mess, and lianis phone was on her table instead of right next to her like it always was.

juliet didn't want to wake up liani, she looked exhausted, even when sleeping. and even though she missed her, and wanted to ask her what was going on, she couldn't wake her up. so instead, she ripped out a piece of paper from a notebook that was in her room, and wrote her a note.

i came to make sure you're okay, but you're sleeping and i'm not going to wake you up. pls call me when you wake up tho, i miss you.

and i saw your mom is home, did she hurt you?

i love you

juliet

she left the note by lianis phone, before sighing and walking back out of her house.

liani had slept all day, meaning it was night time, the time she woke up. she walked out of her room, missing the note she didn't know juliet had left her, and heading for her kitchen.

"thought you weren't here."

liani quickly raised her head, seeing her mother sitting on her couch. the fear that her mother would hurt her again, quickly came to liani but she just took a step back, not wanting her mom to see that she was afraid of her.

she let out a scoff, quickly turning around and heading back up to her room. she heard her mom say something behind her, but she didn't bother to stop and listen.

liani grabbed her phone off of her table, seeing the note next to it. she quickly read over it, immediately feeling guilty for ignoring juliet all this time.

i saw your mom is home, did she hurt you? liani read over that line a couple times, shaking her head.

her shaky hand pressed on juliet's contact, calling her. she put it up to ear as she listened to it ring for a couple seconds, before juliet picked up. "liani!"

"hi." liani sighed, "i'm sorry for not answering, i haven't been feeling good."

"it's okay, are you okay?" juliet seemed panicked.

"uh, yeah.. i didn't know my mom was home." liani picked her lip. liani heard juliet sigh, and begin to talk, but liani cut her off. "but um, i'll be at school tomorrow, okay? i'm gonna go take a shower."

"okay, i love you. call me if anything happens, alright?" juliet insisted.

"okay, i love you." liani replied, before hanging up and setting her phone down on her bed.

"liani!" she heard her mother yell, making her shake her head. she slowly stood up, opening her door and walking halfway down the stairs.

her mom turned around at the sound of the stairs creaking, "can you go get food? there's nothing in this house."

liani stared at her for a couple seconds, "you haven't even apologized to me." she scoffed.

"apologized?" her mom said, letting out a chuckle. "i don't have to say sorry for shit."

"you chocked me!" liani threw her arms down.

"you—" her mom started, but liani cut her off. "no, you chocked me, and then left for like a week and you come back here asking me to do shit for you,"

liani let out a laugh, she was angry, and all she could do was laugh. "fuck you."

she watched her mom stand up, and this time she didn't move. "what, are you gonna choke me again?"

"liani, watch your fucking mouth." her mother pointed at her, walking closer to her.

liani didn't respond, watching her mom continue to come closer to her. she listened to her mom say down bullshit about how she can't speak to her that way, but the moment her mom grabbed onto her arm, "don't fucking touch me." she yanked her arm away.

she pushed her mom back, walking past her as she didn't want to be on the stairs and her mom have an advantage.

"i don't come back here because of you." her mom told her, shaking her head.

liani scoffed, "you don't come back here because you're too fucked up on drugs or drunk."

her mom quickly walked over to her, pushing her back, making lianis back his the wall. "you don't know anything, liani!" her mom shouted in her face.

"you're an addict. you always have been, that's why dad left you, isn't it?" liani asked.

her mom brought her hand up, bringing a hard slap to lianis face. liani immediately pushed her back, making her mom fall to the floor.

"you need to leave, and don't come back this time." liani told her, pointing to the door.

her mom began telling her something else, but just shook her head and stood up, walking over to the table to grab her cigarettes and walked out the front door, slamming it behind her.

liani watched, before dropping to the floor with a sigh. she put her face in her hands as she felt tears leaving her eyes.

she hated crying because of her mom, she hated that her mom could make her feel so upset, so low. tears still rolling down her face, she stood up and heading for her room.

she grabbed her phone, deciding it was time to call ashtray. she hesitated to press on his contact and call him, but eventually just did it and listened to it ring.

"yo?" she heard his voice, he sounded tired.

"hi." liani sighed, while ashtray sat up on his bed at the sound of lianis shaky voice.

"you okay, what's wrong?" he asked her.

"uh, i'm okay. i just— i'm sorry. i shouldn't have fucking said all of that." she told him.

"nah, don't even worry about it, ma. what's goin on?" he asked again, not believing that she was okay.

she hesitated to tell him, "um, my mom.. she was just here."

ashtray quickly stood up, "did she touch you?"

liani shook her head, "no." she lied.

"i'm coming." ashtray told her, making her smile a little.

"okay." she mumbled.

ashtray jogged up to lianis front door, pushing it open and going up the stairs to her room. he opened her room door to see her texting repeatedly on her phone.

she raised her head at the sound of her door opening, and quickly stood to hug ashtray. ashtray put his hands on both sides of her face, pulling her in for a kiss.

the second they pulled away he got a view of the red mark on her face, making his eyebrows furrow. "you said she didn't touch you?"

liani got nervous, not knowing what to say. he just sighed, shaking his head and wrapping his arms around her. her head rested on his chest as they hugged.

"you wanna go to my house, or i could stay here?" he asked her.

"we can go to yours." she answered.

he nodded, grabbing her wrist gently to pull her out of her room, down the stairs and out of her house. she sat in the passenger seat, texting juliet back to let her know that she was okay now.

she glanced over to ashtray, "why'd you come, when i was a bitch to you?"

"i said i gotchu always, didn't i?" he answered, looking over at her.
