Joong's POV
The coffee was a welcome reprieve from the intensity of everything that had happened. I sat across from Zee in the small coffee shop, the warmth of the drink spreading through me, but it didn't settle the unease in my chest. There was still so much left to do, so much more riding on this operation than either of us had let on. But for now, the quiet buzz of the café, the clinking of mugs and the soft murmurs of conversation were a comfort.
As we finished our coffee and made our way back to Mosaic's office, I could feel the weight of what was ahead settling in. We had gathered a ton of intel. The warehouse, Mina's help, the cooperation from both insurance companiesâit was all coming together. We were on the verge of taking down Wichai Kertsin and his team, the masterminds behind the elaborate fraud that had been sinking both Mosiac and Sownpo.
When we arrived at the office, the team was already gathered, their faces tense but determined. The conference table was littered with files, papers, and laptops, the energy in the room a clear sign that everyone was ready for what came next.
Zee walked in first, his presence commanding as usual. He gave the team a brief nod, signaling to start the meeting. He stood at the head of the table, his eyes meeting mine for a brief second before turning to address the team.
"Alright, everyone. We've got the intel we need. This is it. We know where the money's been funneled, who's been involved, and we're about to make our move." He paused, scanning the room as his words sunk in. "We'll be working closely with Sownpo's team from here on out. Joong, let's fill them in on what we discovered last night."
I nodded, my thoughts still a little scattered from the morning's events, but I pushed that aside, focusing on the task at hand.
"Right. So, based on the intel we got from Mina, it's confirmed. The warehouse is the key. It's where all the fraudulent insurance payouts have been passing through before being funneled into Cayman accounts. Wichai Kertsin and his team have been using multiple frontsâfake companies, fake victimsâto make sure everything stays under the radar."
I pointed to the screen, where a map of the warehouse and surrounding areas was displayed. "We know the layout now, and we have the codes to get in, but we also have to move fast. The more we delay, the more likely they'll catch wind of what we're doing."
Zee jumped in, his voice firm but careful. "That's why we've set a time for tomorrow night. The next shipment of funds is scheduled to go out, and that's when we'll make our move. We'll have agents from both Mosiac and Sownpo stationed around the warehouse and surrounding areas. Everyone's going in at the same time, but we need to be coordinated."
He turned to one of his senior agents, who had been working closely with us. "Sarah, you'll be the point person for the diversion. We need to make sure Wichai is occupied with the fakes while we grab the real evidence from the warehouse."
Sarah nodded. "Understood. We'll make sure the local authorities are also in on this, but they won't get involved until the final phase. We can't risk them tipping him off."
Zee glanced at me, and I knew what was coming next. "Joong, you'll work with Sarah. You'll be in charge of the evidence we take from the warehouseâfiles, documents, anything that'll seal the deal. We'll need all the evidence we can get for the charges to stick."
"Got it," I replied quickly. "I'll make sure everything is documented."
"We move tomorrow night," Zee confirmed, the finality in his voice making the air feel even thicker. "Get some rest tonight, and stay alert. This is it. If we pull this off, it's over for Kertsin and his crew. But I need everyone at the top of their game."
The team nodded, a collective focus falling over the room. Zee's leadership was the anchor we needed, and everyone was in sync, no questions, no doubts.
As the meeting wrapped up and everyone began to disperse, I felt a strange mixture of tension and anticipation. The calm before the storm. This was going to change everythingânot just for the cases we had been working on, but for all of us. For Mosiac, for Sownpo. And for me, personally.
Zee had worked hard to get us to this point, and while I had tried to focus only on the case, the truth of the situation had become clearer over the last few days. I couldn't ignore it anymore.
We were in this together, professionally and personally. There was no backing down now, no stepping away.
I glanced over at Zee, who was already at his desk, going through final preparations. He looked like he had it all under control, but I knew the truthâhe had been carrying the weight of this operation since the beginning.
I walked over to him, standing just a little too close. "Everything's set," I said, the words coming out a little softer than I had intended. "We're ready."
Zee looked up at me, meeting my gaze for a long second. His expression softened just slightly, his lips curving into a small smile. "We're ready, Joong," he replied quietly. "Tomorrow, it ends."
Tomorrow, everything changes. And we would face it together.
