Silence is a mask I wear

And it cries alone, and it just lies alone

Whispers planted over time, they will take sprout and rise

They will kill in disguise

Well I might break but you cant tell me that I'm not strong enough

And you can only pull me to the bottom, oh just for a couple weeks

And depression is your weapon of choice, but I'll just sing before it's too late.

Song: Sorry Little Lucy

Sage’s Pov.

A week passed and I didn’t fully forgive Blaze, you can’t keep treating people like that but the way I see it, I will gain his trust that way. I needed to prove to Blaze and myself that all it took was a little persistence and kindness and he would let me in. I cleaned myself up and headed to the living room, plopping on the couch next to Zac who was eating popcorn.

“Give me some,” I asked and he made no eye contact, his attention never left the screen but he handed me the heavily buttered popcorn in the blue-ish green bowl. Zac was watching some movie with a talking orange dog. I looked again and smacked him on the arm playfully.

“Zac are you watching Adventure time?” I laughed and he just gave me a cheeky smile.

“Yup! It’s one of the best cartoons of this generation.” He spared me a glance and his attention was back on the television. Lana came out of the kitchen with a sandwich and lemonade. But to my surprise, she didn’t sit down with it, she handed it to Zac, who winked at her.

“Whoa, Lana are you actually giving in to Zac’s wildest desire?” She gave me a sharp look and corrected me.

“Hell no! I’m not loca, chika. This idiot just won a bet and what he won was a sandwich made by me.” I just shook my head not even wanting to know what the bet was. I was bored already and I wanted to actually do something and not just sit at home like we’ve been for the last week.

Lana walked towards Blaze’s door which if was opened looked right into the living room; he sees everything from the side, if he had the door opened.

“Come out with us. You’ve been cooped up in there on that computer for hours.” She was leaning on the opposite side of the white coated door frame, so I could see into the room and see that Blaze was in the same position, in the bed shirtless on his computer.

He sighed and said something that I didn’t catch. Lana closed the door and came and sat in the recliner on the side of the sofa I was seated in.

Blaze came out two minutes later with a clean shirt on, and sat next to me on the couch. It was a distance away and I’m sure Lana noticed it but she said nothing.

“Welcome to the party lover boy!” Zac said popping skittles in his mouth. Blaze ignored him and zoned in on the TV, but Zac wasn’t done. “Why are you sitting so far away like you don’t want to feel up on that body?” I giggled and Blaze blushed a little before pulling me close to him. Once I was comfortable Blaze’s tenseness disappeared. The warmth radiated out of his body, and once again I felt like this was real and not just part of the deal.

“Aww look at them, Lana. That could be me and you.” He told her, shooting a wink her way.

She rolled her eyes, “They are cute.” She completely ignored his other comment. The second Adventure Time came on and all eyes went towards the television. It was probably around 2:30 in the afternoon, and we were all sitting around the TV watching cartoons, it’s funny.

Zac got a text message; I know this because his phone’s bright light illuminated the dim living room.

“Hey, just got a party invite, let’s go.” I saw Blaze’s face fixing to say no so I spoke before he could.

“Sure! I’m in.” Just because I like to keep to myself doesn’t mean I didn’t go to parties, I checked them out, I just tended to stay outside or sitting in the living room watching everyone else dance. Lana was staying in my room for the time being until her condo downstairs was finished.

“Sage get a pair of shoes on. You and I are going out; we’ll be back before the party tonight.” I looked confuse but walked into the bedroom anyway slipping on a pair of shoes. When I came back out Blaze was standing by the door ready to leave.

Once in the car I asked him where we were going but he didn’t say a word, he just looked at me for a brief second and smirked a little. I pouted into my seat with my arms crossed.

About thirty minutes later we pulled up to a small house that was painted a light blue and was on the more family oriented part of town. I was confused on what we were here for.

Blaze still said nothing; he just got out of the car and opened my door. He took my hand and led me out the door and up to the house. He took out a key and led me in; the house had a scent of lilac and lavender. I let go of Blaze’s hand and ran my hand along the bee yellow paint covered walls of the house, looking on them seeing pictures of when Blaze was little, and even his dad and Aurie when they were teenagers.

“Blaze?” I asked in a soft voice looking for an explanation on why he brought me here.

“I know I’ve been mean to you, and there’s no way to make that up. No one comes here anymore, and for all my parents know this house was sold many years ago, but my Grams kept it just in case I ever wanted to have a piece of home.” He talked in a low voice as if it was a secret he kept from everyone, even himself. His eyes were low and had a haze over them as if he was in deep reflection.

“I grew up here. If you didn’t already know, my Grandmother raised me. I have been rich before I was born, my Father started this company when he was twenty-three, and my Mother started her fashion business when the company took off when she was twenty-seven. They had me at twenty-five, and I have no idea why they didn’t have any more kids, probably because their busy schedule and they didn’t need another reason to have the need to come back to California and visit my Grams and one kid. Why would they need another one they didn’t care too much about?” He gave a dry humorless laugh at the end, and it made me feel melancholy.

Of course he wouldn’t like his parents. Even though he was the rich one, I felt as if I was the more privileged kid. My dad died two years ago and I was loved and my parents were always around.

“I wasn’t always mean, I was nice and a generally well liked person; I use to talk a lot. It was February 2nd and in the last months of 9th grade. My parents decided they wanted to spend time with their ‘only boy’. I spent the rest of the school year, summer, and half of my sophomore year homeschooled and all around the world. I didn’t even spend much time with my parents, and I still have no idea why they even brought me along. My Father,” The way he said ‘Father’ just alone told me that there was something more to his disliking of his dad.

“Drilled into my head that the business was going to be life, and that I should cancel whatever plans I had after high school because I would be ‘Young, rich, and working’ I would have no time for anything else. And he’s right, and that is my life, now and when you go. So of course he was shocked when he found out I was engaged to you.” He added another humorless laugh and I wanted him to feel better so I tried to change the subject. I think I had my fair share of knowledge of Blaze for the day.

I smiled softly and asked “So when was this picture and what were you all doing?” The picture was of a young Blaze, Zac, Aubrey, Lana, and Mark in front of a fountain.

His face twitched up a little and that caused my smile to widen. “Oh that was when we were twelve and went on a little trip to Six Flags and it was a fountain in the middle of town. Grams decided that we were spoiled enough so we shouldn’t go to Disney Land, so we went there instead.” His green eyes were bright and showed a little nostalgia which was a big change from the gloomy, dark state that they were just in a couple minutes ago. I walked further down the hallway and into a mild green room; there were band posters up and pictures everywhere.

“Obviously you can tell that my Grams loved pictures.” He laughed.

“Yeah she did. I don’t even think I own this many pictures.” I replied looking at his desk that was covered in old notebooks and books.

“She always said and this is her quote not mine. ‘Document the way you are now, so you can look at the way you are later. You’ll know yourself more.’ I just listened and took the picture.”

“Aww look at you as a baby Blaze! You were adorable!” I squealed clutching the photo.

“What do you mean ‘were’?” He joked and I was surprised by it but I went along.

“Okay you’re still adorable.” I laughed sitting the picture back down. The house was calm and not as flashy as his mansion and I like it. It felt like home.

“Why did you bring me here? I forgave you remember?”

“You’re my gi- my friend and you deserve to know something about me. I care about you Sage, you’re special to me and you should know why I am the way I am, and why you shouldn’t expect anything from me.”

“Blaze,” I said softly but he cut me off before I could say something else.

“It’s better this way. No one changes for the better and I shouldn’t get attached to something I could lose.” I was very confused by that last sentence but I’ll leave it alone…. For now; but later I would ask and I would get answers, but today he already gave me some.

I reached up and just hugged him. It seemed like he needed it and I felt as if I should give it to him, he told me a lot and he didn’t have to. Blaze pulled me back a bit and looked me in the eyes. He leaned down and gave me a straight kiss on the lips. It was simple, sweet, and short. I didn’t take it any other way; I took it as a thankful one.

“I’m sorry,” he whispered.

“It’s fine.” I smiled.

Once we were back in the car and on our way back home it was around 4 and I’m sure Lana was dying to know where we went and we could go out looking for some dresses for tonight.

“Thanks Blaze, for stepping out of your comfort zone.” He didn’t take his eyes from the road; he just nodded and continued driving.

The condo was loud and you could hear a lot of moving behind the door. Loud Drake songs were playing behind the door; the song was Take Care. Aubrey was on the island singing her heart out but Lana was doing the same but on the couch, Zac was lying on the floor with a smile on his face looking up at Lana, and Mark was singing Drake’s parts up to Aubrey.

I pulled Blaze in and laughed while dragging him into the bedroom. The music cut off and Lana and Aubrey were in the room within seconds.

“Come on Sage, we’ve been waiting for you. We have to go to Mrs. Colton’s shop to pick up the dresses.”

“Okay, here I come. Bye babe, I’ll see you later.” I told Blaze kissing him on the lips before walking out the door with Lana and Aubrey.

Aubrey kissed Mark and of course Zac being a dumbass had to say something.

“What about me Lana?” He asked with a sad puppy dog face on.

“What about you, Zac?” She asked with her arms crossed.

“My kiss, they got theirs. Where’s mine?”

“In your dreams where our relationship is” She told him with a roll of the eyes and walked outside.

“Ha! Try harder next time bro. Lana isn’t going to fall for your stupid lines.” Aubrey told him, following Lana out the door; I gave an apologetic smile and walked with them. I know that Zac didn’t take it to heart but I still felt bad. He’d get over it and would be all over her within two seconds so there was nothing to worry about.

We were on our way to Mrs. Colton’s store and when we pulled into the parking lot Aubrey took out the keys and turned to me, and Lana scooted up closer and stared at me too.

“Soo, where did Blaze take you?” Aubrey asked breaking the silence.

“To his old house.”

“Oh shit! Did you two have sex on his old bed? You two look like freaks you probably broke it!” Aubrey voiced, giving me a light shove.

“Eww,” Lana laughed. “Don’t tell me that its one of Blaze’s fantasies to have sex with his fiancé on his old bed.”

I slapped her manicured hand away, “No Aubrey, and you two keep your mind out of the gutter. I just looked at pictures and he told me stories. It was very sweet and thoughtful. Besides the bed would’ve been too small.”

“Aw that’s very cute. It was a cute little date. And wait so that means you thought of sexing Blaze up on that bed?” Lana laughed, and I rolled my eyes.

“No. Geez you two are so dirty minded.”

“Lana did you know that Blaze hasn’t touched her yet?” Aubrey asked her, as if I wasn’t sitting right there.

“What? How could he not? Blaze is not the one to keep it in his pants. Besides she’s really pretty, and the best girl Blaze has ever been with.” Lana said confused.

“I have no idea. I wondered the same thing!”

“Hello, I’m right here. And it’s my choice I want to wait till I’m married.”

“Well I guess that makes sense. Well let’s go get our vestidos!” Lana yelled excited and hopped out the car.

We walked into the store and Mrs. Colton came out in an expensive dress with her matching shoes and hugged us all. She led us to the back where a stack of dresses were sitting on a huge leather stool.

We sat there for a couple hours just digging through the clothes, not talking about much but our likes and dislikes.

When we were done we arrived at home at about seven o’clock. The boys were all ready and sitting on the couches watching TV, we ignored them and went straight towards the rooms to get changed.

I straightened my curly hair and added some eyeliner and put in my contacts. I slipped on my bright, dark blue dress. It was strapless and it had ruffles in the middle that when all the way down, the other parts of the dress fit snuggly and were smooth, the dress went little above my knee.

I walked out the door to sit with the boys until Lana and Aubrey were ready. It was already nine and time to go.

Blaze’s eyes already told me that this dress was a perfect pick. I beamed at his wide eyes and mouth that was left ajar. But Zac as always was the first to say anything.

“Whoa, little one you are looking like a little goddess.” I smiled and Blaze glared at Zac hitting him on the back of the head and pulling me to him. Lana came out in a simple black one shoulder dress, matched with ruby red lipstick and red heels.

“But there’s my goddess right there.” Zac finished the Taylor smirk appearing on his face, when Lana popped out the room.

Aubrey came out last in her dark green dress, which reminded me of the house Blaze showed me earlier. She matched it with black heels and her blonde hair pulled up into a swooped bun with a huge green flower on the side of her hair.

“Okay we’re all set to go. I just hope no one decides to push up on you girls, because I’m not afraid to beat someone’s ass.” Mark stated a little too seriously. I don’t know why but Blaze pulled me a little closer. I forgot all about how Blaze would act. He’s not the partying type and he would seem so out of place. I mean I would too, but I wanted to have fun and I wanted him to, too.
