Mariana’s POV

We sat in silence eating after praying. ” So did you get the deal done? ” Father asked breaking the silence.

“No he didn’t show up”

“What do you mean? ” He asked with a confused expression written all over his face.

“Well we waited for him for two hours and he didn’t show up his assistant said he had something else important to handle” I said with so much hurt in my voice I can’t believe he made me wait for him for so long and didn’t show up, how could he?

“Wow Mary you surely have daughters the young one is already useless while the other one failed to do one single task ”

“I won’t let you disrespect my mother like that” I stood up from my chair ” That stupid so called Alexandra didn’t show up so what did you expect me to do? Look for him wherever he was and drag him to the office to finalize the deal and get it over it. Is that what you wanted? ”

“You little brat, I won’t let you disrespect me like that. I gave you one single task and that was to make Alexandra your business partner, was it too difficult? ” He said as he also stood up from his seat.

I was about to shut him up with my next words but my mom spoke first ” Enough both of you for Christ’s sake why can’t you let go of this silly thing of yours, there is nothing to fight about here-”

“Shut up Mary! ”

“You have absolutely no right to talk to my mother like that”

“Mariana don’t dare try to raise your voice at me, am your father don’t forget that. I only gave you one single job and you proved to be useless and a failure’.

Okay was what this man saying making sense because I didn’t think so. It’s my company we are talking about here,Why does he always wants to get into my business and I only allow it because he offered to help me with business when I first opened the company but it looks like it has become his company and getting involved in everything I do.

“Wow you think am useless and a failure? dear father I don’t think so because in all of my life I have not failed anything. I managed to build a company and live a successful life and the same useless child and a failure is the one who pays for your children’s school fees. I give them everything they want with my own earned money including you ” I said pointing a finger at him ” So- ” I was about to say something when I received a slap across my face.

“Mom how could you do that” I could hear Jane say behind me as I put my hand on my cheek which was hurt from the slap I just received.

“Shut up Jane. Mariana you have no right to talk to your father like that. Is this what I taught you? Talk back to elders when they speak. Mariana you are too good to be like this. Mariana you have surely crossed Your limits”.

" But mom-”

“Don’t but me Mariana, apologize to your father right now! ”

“Mary don’t think am foolish you let your daughter insult me and now you want her to apologize”

“Edward it’s not what you think”

“Mom I won’t apologize beside I did nothing wrong and stated out the facts”

“See Mary your child has no manners she took after her dead father”

“Edward?!” Both me and my mother shouted at the same time as I was ready to rip his head off he had no right to talk about my father. This was about us so why bring my father in this silly argument which didn’t make sense.

As though my mom knew what was going on in my mind she took me out of the house and tears started running down my cheeks.

“Mariana please don’t cry” My mother was about to touch me but I pulled away she didn’t try to support me inside so why give me comfort. I walked passed her , got in the car and drove away.
